'Toughen up': Brett Ratten's brutally honest interview on shocking Saints

You can’t say Brett Ratten isn’t honest.

The St Kilda coach wasn’t mincing his words as his Saints fell 60 points behind at three-quarter time against Richmond, in a brutally honest interview with Channel 7’s Daisy Pearce.

“We just got absolutely smashed around the stoppages and the clearances,” Ratten said.

“They had [pinch-hitting ruckman Marlion] Pickett rucking and they just walked the ball out of there.

“That’s been a bit of us lately… we go alright at it and then we fall away.

“We need to toughen up in there.”

Ratten’s words, and the strong spray he dished out to the Saints in the huddle, didn’t have the desired effect, the Tigers going on to record a thumping 86-point win.
