Patrick Mahomes is no doubt a generational talent.

He played his college football and baseball at Texas Tech University and in 2017 was taken at Pick 10 by the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent his rookie season behind starter Alex Smith and was traded to Washington for the following year, where he was named the starter.

In his first season as an NFL starter Mahomes threw for over 5000 yards and made 50 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions, turning himself into a genuine superstar. He was named for the Pro Bowl and in the All Pro first team and he won offensive player of the year as well as the league MVP.

The following year he led the Chiefs to a win in Super Bowl LIV. It was the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years and he became the second-youngest player behind Ben Roethlisberger to win a Super Bowl.

Patrick Mahomes used his rookie season, when he was behind Alex Smith, to work on his quarterback craft. His determination and willingness to go the extra mile to make himself a better football player is unmatched.

Finally, after nearly a year of no action in the NFL, his time came on 27 December 2017. With a play-off spot already locked up, Mahomes was given his chance. He played most of the Week 17 game against Denver and led the Chiefs to a 27-24 win. He’s never looked back.

All that time going over playbooks, watching game film, studying team defensive schemes and other players’ tendencies put him in a great position to succeed at the highest level. It is a testament to what can be achieved when you put in the hard work and push yourself to be the best version of yourself. Just have a look at him now: one of the best players in the league, a Super Bowl winner and an MVP winner with the world at his feet.

Success does not happen overnight and all the accolades that have come Mahomes’s way are an accumulation of all his hard work behind the scenes over the years. His legacy has a chance to grow yet again when he faces another star of the NFL in Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in a match-up of two of the best young quarterbacks in the league.

We’ll be seeing these two for many years to come.
