Had to be Jono Wells to be honest… the only one who was batting at 5 or 6 in the BBL that had consistent runs on the board.

Glenn Maxwell's injury exposes Australia's dearth of middle-order batsmen

As a Freo fan id bite your hand off for that deal! Only issue I think is that Hill would rather get 900k from St Kilda.

AFL Trade News: Demons get their wings

Can tell you Langdon is far from an elite kick, extremely ordinary disposal by foot. There is a reason Freo were much happier to let him go than they are with Hill.

Agree on this. I hope we go to the draft. Kelly seems set on West Coast as they are in a premiership window and good luck to him, we missed our chance 2 years ago to sign him for nothing.
Liam Henry and Robertson would be great early selections and then Ben Sokol and Jye Bolton late.

Fremantle appoint Justin Longmuir as next senior coach

There was a poll amongst members and over 80% agreed with the decision. Members pay there hard earned money to the club, it’s fair to say they are true fans.
I’m yet to meet one Freo member that disagreed with sacking Ross.

We have the stronger hand but he seems desperate to get to West Coast. I suspect they will work out a deal, probably West Coast will need to get there hands on an earlier pick plus trade some future picks to make it happen.

We aren’t getting Kelly, I just can’t see it happening.
My hope for Freo this time round is that we go to the draft with a strong hand. If we have to lose B Hill get a real early pick for him and then have picks 6, 7 and match a bid for an academy selection for Liam Henry. Pick up WA boys and maybe with our later picks mature age WAFL guys like Ben Sokol or Jye Bolton.

Nothing wrong with promoting effort and structure, most coaches do as will Longmuir.
What Lyon didn’t do was promote skill development as much as he should have. You mention Richmond, there ball movement by hand is far cleaner and crisper than Freos and there foot skills are better. Yes they play a high pressure run and gun style but the skills are there.
Ross demanded a very taxing style of play but the skills of the young players he had at his disposal weren’t up to the task. Longmuir I’m sure will promote skill development this pre season.

Still going on about it Don. Bell, Alcock and the board spoke for the majority of the fan base, over 80% of members supported the sacking! It had to be done. Football is a business and Lyon wasn’t up to the standards, nothing sentimental about it. He may be a fantastic bloke (although a few female staffers would suggest otherwise) but there was no room for sentimentality. Lyon had to go.
Bell, Alcock and the board have been nothing but professional since then.

Ross isn’t the best available and that will be proven when Adelaide also announce that there senior coach is not Ross Lyon. 4 other clubs also sacked there coaches this season and not one of them will appoint Ross as their senior coach, suggests to me he is well down the pecking order and his coaching style is well out of date, no club wants to touch him right now and rightly so.

Did you catch J-Lo’s presser Jonboy?
Spoke about the importance of improving skill development, something that was severely lacking under Lyon. Hopefully J-Lo will put a lot of work into foot skills over the pre season, it needs a fair bit of work.

Guerra is gone, I’d send Rock and Hale on their way as well, let Longmuir pick his assistants.

Bell just confirmed in Longmuirs presser he isn’t going for the CEO role. Brayshaw was mentioned, no response from Alcock but I don’t think he would want to take the role when his son is at the club.

Yeah the GF was a bit of a fizzer unless you were a Tigers fan so drinking was the order of the day/weekend.

Fremantle appoint Justin Longmuir as next senior coach

I can’t see us getting Tim, for mine he seems fully committed to West Coast. Only way I see us any chance is if negotiation with Geelong fall away and the Cats bring Freo into the picture as a bargaining tool.

Bell should remain in his role as a football operations manager. He has done well leave him there.
Mark Brayshaw is being talked about for the CEO role so is James Clement.

Yes be interesting to see what assistants he can get around him. Would like to see an experienced head helping him out as a senior assistant.
Webber has to go, has to be held accountable as well.

I will admit that whilst at first I didn’t mind the idea of Sumich coaching I always did prefer J-Lo. However, after Sumas comments about West Coast you did have to question whether he was the right man for the job and apparently he did absolutely butcher his interview, not sure how that got leaked but perhaps Suma did tell his 6pr mates about it?
Think we’ve dodged a bullet there. J-Lo will be great.

Best decision this club has made! Been very impressed by the boards vision since they sacked Ross in August. Good to see them getting a Freo person back at the helm, J-Lo will be fully invested in the club, has had a fantastic apprenticeship at West Coast and Collingwood where he was very highly regarded and was the standout candidate.
Welcome J-Lo, excited for what his vision will bring.

No my comment is based off a couple of former Fremantle players opinions on Fyfe and Neale… Neale apparently not a particularly good bloke and not much of a team man… good luck to him up at Brisbane, honestly couldn’t care less, he went for the money and that’s fine in this industry, it’s the way it’s going anyway.

Brad Hill will be a bigger loss than Neale, a far more damaging player, pity he can’t just dump his Victorian missus and find a nice West Aussie one.

Mate I’m a Freo fan but also one of there harshest critics. I know we have an average list but the players I’ve mentioned are far better than average. Walters is the second best small forward in the comp (behind Cameron), Brad Hill averages more metres gained than anyone else in the league which is why it’ll be such a blow to lose him, Alex Pearce would have been the AA Centre Half back had he not broken his ankle and Hamling and Ryan are far better than average defenders. All these guys make any side in the league.
Freos problem is that under this elite 7 or 8 players the talent does drop off sharpish and apart from Walters there isn’t a lot in the front half. All these guys are far better than average footballers, watch a few more Freo games and you would know….

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Yep I do agree with you on that front. For mine Brodie Grundy is the most valuable player in the league, but I’d have Fyfe second. Midfielders definitely do get the lions share of votes.
I do think there needs to be a separate award for backs and for ruckmen, the forwards have the Coleman, the mids have the brownlow, AFL MVP etc.

Spud had the right idea with the golden fist award, make it happen AFL!

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Walters average? Mundy average? B Hill average? Brayshaw average? Alex Pearce average? Hamling average? Luke Ryan average?

Ok yes the list lacks depth but they are 7 players who would walk into any side in the comp and get games, they are far better than average footballers.

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Only once has someone from a team lower than Fyfe won a brownlow, Ablett for GC.
If you were right far more players from cellar dweller sides would win brownlows.
Most of the time it’s a player from a top 8 side that wins the medal.
Yes Kelly and Danger took votes from each other but if Geelong don’t win as many games neither of them poll as many votes. Fyfe’s win last night goes against the norm and just shows how good he is that he can still poll that well in a poor side.

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Yes Freo can be dreadful but they can also be quality, they are an absolute enigma as are Port Adelaide, Essendon and Carlton at the moment.
They did beat 4 of the top 6 sides and 3 of the 4 prelim finalists this season so you can’t deny that at times they have been good enough.
The frustrations that I have that I’m sure a lot of fans of other mediocre clubs share is that lack of consistency. Beating Geelong then losing to Carlton? Inconsistency is Freo’s major pitfall..
