I’d rather JLo or Kirk but I wouldn’t be completely against Suma, has done a great job with the state 18s showing he is a good development coach.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

Pretty much a spot on analysis. It was only a matter of time for Ross Lyon to depart and i’m glad it’s happened. This definitely has Peter Bell all over it, in his short time in the role as Football manager he has already been very busy and it’s clear that he was the one most keen to move Ross Lyon on. It’s also clear that Steve Rosich was backing his man Lyon and this is what lead to the ‘difference of opinion’ that was mentioned by Dale Alcock.

Now the question is what next? I think this may well have just about confirmed Brad Hill and Ed Langdon’s exits, both were close with Lyon and now may well feel obliged to exit, but as with Neale last year Freo can turn these departures into something. Perhaps they have a real crack at Tim Kelly now and maybe Bell and whoever is the new senior coach (I’m on the Longmuir bandwagon) can twist his arm especially as there will be a fair bit of free salary available. Perhaps however we look to the draft, we are already set to net academy pick Liam Henry and another early pick could net us Devan Robertson as well. That at least could be the start of a new era.

Ross Lyon, the Bell tolls for thee

Why not Sumich? JLo is my first choice and Brett Kirk is my second but I honestly wouldn’t be unhappy with Suma. The guy deserves a crack, has done a great job with the State 18s and has a good relationship with a lot of the players.

Ross Lyon, the Bell tolls for thee

And this heritage is something I believe Freo have lost in the Rosich and Lyon tenure. Bringing Bell back, a Freo man through and through was one step back in the right direction and the next would be bringing Longmuir in as coach. These guys were at Freo in the early days when the club meant something, nowadays under Rosich it has felt like a soulless business, the jumper change, the move to Cockburn, changing the song, it hasn’t worked.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

Well considering I watch every single game, am a 19 year member and speak for the majority of Fremantle fans who are happy with this decision then i’d have to disagree.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

Or he will go into the media with his best mates Roosy and Kingy, i’ll certainly be tuning out and putting the ABC commentary on if that is the case.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

I’d take Chris, not Brad.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

But Don Freo is Ross Lyon so they would be changing nothing.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

Nope, I want an untried coach. I don’t fancy Pyke after he absolutely ruined Adelaide with that training camp. Longmuir or Brett Kirk for me.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

I think Bell will remain as Football operations manager and they will try and entice Pavlich to be the new CEO. Whether or not he is willing to sacrifice some of his media commitments i’m not sure.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

I’d imagine that will be next. The strength and conditioning staff will be replaced this off season. May see a fair bit of change this off season in terms of Assistants as well.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

Confirmed, David Hale.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

Agreed, I much preferred the retro round kit to our normal kit.

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

So now that Lyon is gone Longmuir is your pick? Glad we can agree on something.

Ok, try asking any West Coast player or fan where they would rather play their finals and you will get the same answer. Yep they are playing extremely well in Melbourne but they would undoubtedly rather have the home ground advantage.

Five talking points from AFL Round 20

Of course its a skills issue! My point is as the coach Ross should be held accountable for their poor skills as he is meant to be training them to improve, even on the weekend our skills weren’t great but the manic pressure was back which was a big step forward. I give Ross some credit for the weekend, he obviously galvanised the group better than he has done in previous weeks but is one win enough to undo a month of dreadful footy? We will find out whether it continues against the Saints this week.
Our poor skills caused that obliteration against West Coast. One leads to the other. The poor skills on field lead to an obliteration on the scoreboard. I’m not sure how you can swing a 91 point loss any other way?

Five talking points from AFL Round 20

I Agree with Downsey. I gave the players a standing ovation not Ross. Was stoked for the players.
As for Hill, I don’t share your confidence, whilst I’m not blaming Ross for this one. I think his missus has made her mind up she wants to head back to Melbourne and sadly Bradley will be in tow. Not often I hope for relationship breakdowns but on this occasion I am hahah.

Five talking points from AFL Round 20

Oh yeah they had a good year, but in a way it was similar to Geelong this year. Were almost unbeatable early on but got found out a bit late as well as copping a few key injuries, most notably McPharlin. They played an equally injury hit Sydney side in the QF at home and scraped home and then copped the Hawks. Freo were a better side in 2013 despite what ladder position suggests I think.
Geelong I don’t even see winning a final so perhaps it’s not a completely fair comparison.

Five talking points from AFL Round 20

Brilliant win from the Aussies. Steve Smith sublime, Nathan Lyon fantastic. Wade proved the doubters wrong and showed that picking on form is the way to go.
The only change i’d consider making is Starc in for Patto.
I doubt itll be a road, in fact I’d imagine it will be a green seamer similar to what England beat Ireland on.
England have to drop Moeen, he was dreadful for them.

Australia bulldoze England in first Ashes Test

Main difference between the Lions and the Dockers is coaching.

Five talking points from AFL Round 20

Disagree on there being no better coach of young players than Ross. That is probably his weakness. He is a very good coach with the senior players but for mine he doesn’t develop young kids anywhere near as well as Clarko, Simpson and Hardwick.

Jayden Stephenson though Macca? I’d argue he was exactly what Carlton needed…

Five talking points from AFL Round 20

If you seriously think WCE would rather play in Melbourne than in Perth your nuts.

Five talking points from AFL Round 20

Pfft, statistically Tendulkar isn’t even as good as Adam Voges….. that’ll stir em up

Smith and Wade flatten England

You’ve got this pretty much spot on. The criticism levelled at Lyon is completely justified. I’m stoked about the win on the weekend but to me I need to see consistency. Last 3 games of the season are all against teams near them on the ladder, can they show some consistency and win all 3? If so then I will re consider my opinion on Ross.
