Fave Team: Wallabies, Reds Fave Quote: It's better to help people than garden gnomes.

Thanks for the prompt review Matt, and I loved the Joe Roff reference! 😂

REACTION: 'Like All Blacks against Wallabies'- Clinical Crusaders simply too strong for error-riddled Brumbies

Good call. Gold Coast did a magnificent job with the Commonwealth Games.

'Playing too well to leave out': The Wallabies selection headache forced by McReight's great leap forward

Very good call. It reminds me of Pocock in his heyday, he was so fast to the pilfer referees assumed he hadn’t released the tackled player. For a while there he would quickly clap his hands above his head to demonstrate to the refs that he had released!

'Hooper's heir apparent': McReight stars in 'helter-skelter' Reds-Rebels try-fest

An amazing effort and they’ve done themselves and the country proud. What a performance by Alyssa Healy!

Australia are the World Cup champions: CWC final talking points

Well said sir. But in your defence it’s been a while since he cleaned up in the 4th innings. Great effort today and he deserves the plaudits.

Lyon roars as Australia clinches Pakistan series late on day 15 of gruelling Test battle

What a gripping series, and thank God for Cricinfo’s coverage. I am so very happy for Uzzie, a very well deserved player of the series, and only makes you wonder what might have been if he was given more time in the Aussie line up.

Thanks Dan, love your work as always!

The Liebke Report Card: 'It would have made the entire commentary box’s heads explode'

Great call on the Reds defence, it was ferocious, especially near the tryline. And how good were some of Hunter’s huge hits?

REACTION: 'An absolute masterclass' - JOC heroics steal the show as Reds do it for Queensland

The ref and the TV stopped the clock so the Perth scallywags could make some substitutions but it seems that the naughty-boy monitor didn’t get the memo! ????
Which is a wee bit of justice because that was a harsh YC. Even the anti-Reds commentators thought so.

What did you think of the YC for his dominating tackle?

REACTION: 'An absolute masterclass' - JOC heroics steal the show as Reds do it for Queensland

Agreed! It was very impressive and great to see him being so genuine. I really felt for the big fella when he came off injured, that sucked.

Wow, that is incredibly mean spirited. JOC has a great game and all you can say is “he doesn’t play as well against better opposition”, which is true for every player in every sport!

I so love JOC 2.0, one of the best sporting redemption stories. It was a joy to watch him last night, and his joy and humility were uplifting to see. I was also impressed with how he handled the ref. The first half had some very dodgy calls but JOC kept his cool, made the occasional comment/question, never whined or complained, and always took his opportunities to build rapport, e.g., the friendly banter when a kick off was delayed for technical reasons, JOC had the ref chuckling. It may not have had an effect but look at the difference in the penalty count from the 1st to the 2nd half. But he obviously wasn’t a one man show, the Reds were excellent.

Decisions made by committees… I thought it was a good move to remove a racial slur (I don’t think us Aussies appreciate the impact of the word, it’s just a lolly to me, but from what I’ve read it’s a derogatory word over there) but I was hoping they’d keep (or slightly modify) the logo and change their name to “Iroquois” or “Warriors” or something that retains and honours the native Americans. Commanders is lame.

Washington's NFL team reveals its new name

Listening to ABC Grandstand during this test (mainly to avoid Warne’s commentary of course) and they discussed the stats that the SCG has had the most days lost to rain of any test ground in the world! And they did take into account number of tests played. But they can’t shift the match to another timeslot when there’s less rain (like early December) because the “people of Sydney” are “used to having the test this time of year”. But there is a glimmer of hope, apparently when they shift the Members Stand by a couple of degrees (I don’t know what on earth that is supposed to mean, rotating to get more advantageous views?) they are going to consider a roof!

The Liebke Report Card: Khawaja proves Warne principle, while Alpha Pat is most Australian captain ever

And I bet Captain Pat knew that too! Ah, such an exquisite move…

Surely that is the main purpose of the mute button? 😂
I used to have ABC Grandstand for commentary but now the time lag is crazy huge! So now I tend to leave the TV off. Mind you, Ian Chappell can be an annoying curmudgeon…

Forget about Warnings, resilient Starc's career makes him an all-time great

Thanks Liam, a well articulated analysis of the situation.

The only statement I can’t agree with is “It’s becoming easier and easier to criticise this England team, and as such less fun and less interesting.” Personally, I find it a great deal of fun! I’d be very happy to see a 5-0 drubbing 😁 😂

What is best about summer? Cricket and Dan Liebke! (Although the reference to Headingley still hurts…) Thanks Dan, great stuff.

'Tim Paine does ALL DRS calls' and Joe Root's other 'critical conditions' required for England to tour

I do find it strange that they acknowledge they’ve had 130,000 COVID deaths and yet they criticise our “neurotic” approach?
Mind you, couldn’t we offer one week in quarantine for the WAGs if they’re fully vaxxed?

'Spare us the s--- talk': English media's brutal backlash to 'pillock' Paine

Great read, thanks Matt. You’re 100% right that international tours have irrevocably changed, and it is much harder to get to know personalities. Losing the Jaguars hasn’t helped…
I enjoy your writing style btw ????

Clash of cultures: Quade Cooper versus Los Pumas Anonymous, a 'generic Springboks Lite'

Upfront disclaimer: I’m a soccer watching numpty, but it’s the Olympics so all sports get their moment to shine.
This was an exciting game and the Aussies looked great, and it seemed like the best team won. But I am concerned about their next matches. I think Sweden and the Yanks are going to be tough. Luckily our girls are also tough! C’mon Matildas!

'Robbing Peter to pay Paul': A much needed victory for Gustavsson's Matildas

There certainly are plenty of curmudgeons grumbling about the Olympics. I bloody love the Olympics! The more the merrier I say. I love the inclusion of these new sports. Every four years we get to celebrate all sorts of different sports that get very little exposure the rest of the time, and I think it’s wonderful.

Case in point: what is 3×3 basketball? A quick check and wow, that sounds weird, cool, let’s watch that.

Bring it on!

Surfing, skateboarding, karate and speed climbing: The four new sports on show in Tokyo

Many thanks Matt, what a great summary of what to look forward to. And I bloody loved your line about the men’s 100m final “It starts at 10:50pm. And will be over at 10:50pm, also.”
