It might be New Year’s Eve on Thursday, but at Tabcorp Park Melton, it’s almost like Christmas Day part two, with 12 races set down, all of which are at Group 2 level. Here are the best bets for the monster program. Tabcorp Park Melton Best bet Race 6 number 2, Idyllic This shapes up […]
Boxing Day racing in Melbourne took place at Caulfield and I think a couple of potential Group 1 candidates emerged from the program.

It looked a good meeting at Flemington on Saturday with some impressive efforts to the eye… but was it backed up on the clock? Here’s a review of the meeting and a horse or two to follow.

Walked in front and sprinted on a leaders track. Things fell into place IMHO. Want to see him work for a win before jumping on board

It’ll never be cleaned up Tristan I’m afraid. Far too many people in high positions, on and off the track, have too big of an influence and nothing will be done to clean it up. It’s quite laughable just how dodgy some drives are when you watch them
What's happened to harness racing, and why does it keep happening?
Ta mate. $3 was it’s right price. Got to silly odds at the end but you were never going to lose when it lobbed 1/1
Behind the barriers: Five bets for the weekend
Ha I tipped Gold Denari on my website Mike. Was very keen on it at Gawler prior to it being scratched at the gates. Amazed by the drift.

Hey mate, follow me on Twitter, AdamPage1991, and message me there. That’s where I usually am on a Saturday afternoon.
But nah, didn’t like it today. Not at the price anyway. Tipped Pelethronius myself

Raising the bat like Maxwell and letting it go through to the keeper on this one

Always happy to help mate. Was amazed by the drift in the morning, got out to as much as $7. The run last week was too good to ignore

Might want to do your research/form Addington.
Tempo was several lengths slower than average. For a horse who will be best at 2000m+, he had no chance the way the race was run. I thought his effort late was outstanding given the circumstances. Back up in trip next start, he’ll be winning.

Love Danish Twist, but wait for her in the Tatts Tiara. Thinking she’ll need this run.

Odd ride I agree Razzar. Wouldn’t say good race, but I think in a similar race on the course proper, he can win during the Carnival for sure

Hard to say Jrod. Next meeting is Wednesday but the rail will be out a fair way. Next Saturday meeting will be in three weeks time. Based on yesterday, if we get something similar, you couldn’t bet there with confidence. As I said, the kickback was a big issue for some, which is why it was difficult to come between runners from the back and win. If you received all the kickback aka Tumbler, your chances were gone. I’d be forgiving for a lot of runners yesterday.

He is a much inferior horse to the ones that the stable sent over in the Spring. Still think Francis Of Assisi is the Melbourne Cup horse
Polarisation eyeing off a rare Cups double
Hope the punters got a quid or two out of these today!

Nothing wrong with her form Nathan. My thinking is that the stable rarely target first up, more so second and third up. I think she and Ravi are horses to follow as they head to the Darley Crown/Dark Jewel and perhaps Brisbane.
But, money speaks all languages. We will know how forward they are with the betting and the final 10-15 minutes.
Saturday Sure Things: Championships Day 2 preview
Well. I mean, Godolphin are just battlers aren’t they?

Just don’t know how/why people said the ‘Thunder Down Under’ was done. He would have had to sprint like Black Caviar to win fresh, bob of the head beat him in the Canterbury, and he bumped into Winx. Amazed about the drift and the price he got to.
Just forget his Spring prep. He never fully recovered from the HK trip hence why they pulled the pin straight after the Manikato. From what I’ve been told, they will skip HK in May and focus on the Everest

Provided it’s an even playing field, Portman should spank them.

To say it would have attracted Highland Reel and Order Of St George is ludicrous. The Caulfield Cup is poorly placed in that regard, because there is Champions Day at Ascot, The Arc, the Japan Cup and then HK. The race will never attract the top tier internationals, even with the change to WFA.
It’s just mind numbing that we will have a $4 Million WFA race over 2400m, then seven days later have a $3 Million WFA contest over 2040m. It’s bad enough when the states don’t work together two 1600m Guineas in one day, but when clubs in the same state/city can’t work together…there’s problems.
I agree in the sense that the 2400m WFA brand isn’t here in Australia. The BMW just doesn’t have the aura that it once had 10-20 years ago. But there are certain races you just don’t touch, and the Caulfield Cup is one of those. I love the fact that we get a capacity field of 18 or thereabouts, it’s a great betting race. Now with WFA, I am sure we won’t get a max field.
Caulfield Cup set for shock change, but the reasons don't stack up
Houtzen is a she Razzar 😉
Perhaps flattered by finding the A+ ground, but Inference was very impressive. But the bookies have well and truly made sure he’s a low price. I wouldn’t drop off Sacred Elixir. His effort in the NZ Derby was very good.
Missing the kick cost Portman badly. Show A Star was gifted the lead and he’s shown in the past when trained by Gai he loves a fight.

He’s the best in the business mate. It is a must watch for the Melbourne punters
