I feel better knowing I have a few months to get Kayo into the budget, though apparently Ennis commentates….
I’ve watched plenty of semi professional and amatuer sport with better commentary…

Guts, game control and a gift from Cody Walker: Grand Final talking points

They’re cooked. TBH I thought they didn’t have a premiership window open this year so was really surprised they get as close as they did this year.

Premiership window over? Harsh reality facing Souths as they deal with life after Bennett and Reynolds

I don’t think you can rate on the fact he looked nervous, rather on actual outcomes. He was more solid than a 5…

NRL grand final player ratings: Who sizzled and who fizzled

Ironically the commentary last night was more neutral than last year…The Panthers are on top despite being down by 20 odd points was pretty exciting stuff

Very skinny 10m all game. I think the biggest failure for the Rabbitohs was their inability to get onto their fronts quickly in tackles. All their runners were too upright and kept getting picked up. Now I don’t think it was a stroke of genius to pick players up, contrary to Ch9 commentators, but am surprised it’s not used more often in NRL as most runners don’t know how to bend at the waist.
My biggest gripe was a mostly enjoyable game was partially ruined because of the commentary, or what is masquerading as commentary. How can an organisation that pays hundreds of millions of dollars for a sport have such terrible coverage. They have about 20 “experts” covering the game with an equal but constant share of unbridled adulation for the most mundane of tasks (oh he holds the ball in two hands he’s the new Wally Lewis) and griping about non-existent referee errors. It’s terrible and an embarrassment to the game. I don’t know if Andrew Moore would ever consider it, but take a truck load of money to his front door and get him and the rest of the grandstand crew. Only Billy Slater has any talent for commentary and he’s the newest of the bunch. If I wanted the type of commentary 9 dishes up I’d find a pub to listen to a bunch of yobbos cause at least they’ll provide some insight and atmosphere.

Good comparison. Baseball is by far and away my favourite sport to watch, play and just generally immerse myself. The thing that really gets me is how quickly the tension can increase within any given innings (or half innings of course). Two runners on with no outs is so different to one or two out and it can be like that for the entire season. It’s a long, long season but there are constant sliding doors moments where momentum is won and lost.

Cricket and baseball: Compare and contrast, Part 1

Most professional workplaces now have specific rules for Xmas parties (mad mondays) where you still have to abide by the rules and you lose your job if you do anything really dumb. And doing drugs at the Xmas party is really dumb. Seems that mad Mondays should be retired

How is the NRL still getting Mad Monday so wrong?

Jeez this article descended 😂 Get your Vax people – including AZ. The risk profile was vastly overstated even by ATAGI. They’re a government agency that have a risk profile of zero. The advice initially reflected that. Then the premiers and CHO’s decided to conflate two different issues, risk from immunisation and risk of covid infection and death. So therefore overplayed the advice that ATAGI had provided at a fortnightly meeting that failed to appreciate the severity of the Delta strain (that’s why the advice changed). Remember the advice was that AZ was recommended for those in the 60+ bracket if there were not active cases, but that the advice could change if there were active cases. What the advice failed to take properly into account is the amount of time it takes for the booking and then administration of the immunisation. The advice should never have been that strict in the first place.
But anyhow, get your Vax.

Well if Tasmania could get 50,000 into one of our boutique stadiums we could…

I know you really dislike Atkins, but he actually has the best technical knowledge of all the refs…

Sutton handed the whistle for fifth straight decider

Yeah the cheating of the concussion/injury rules are bad and have me probably supporting the Bunnies, whom I despise…

Stuck in neutral: Reasons to support – or boo – the Panthers and Souths in the NRL grand final

That footage of both Luai and Cleary are pretty bad. And using HIA for Smith as well is equally as dodgy. Independent doctors?

Paul Kent reveals one of his biggest fears for this weekend's grand final

Yep, it’s what it needs to be it seems

My mother in law is a South fan. So that says all you need to know what I think of Souffs fans

Which is the way it should be. Welch has been their best player this year in my opinion and was a massive, massive loss (potentially game changing)

Reece Walsh arrested on Gold Coast party strip

I dare say that’s how I will be consuming the grand final…

Perhaps you’re right. I do tend to underestimate how much they’re prepared to cheat

What does it say about the game when there is a rule specifically for if three players suffer a concussion related injury?
TBH I think the NRL needs to consider going back to substitutions, that will stop a lot of the silly little games with the free interchanges etc. Couple that with once a player passes the HIA they have to go back on immediately for the player that came on in their place.
Are Penrith due another fine if Luai did in fact black out? That’s a should be an immediate exclusion from the game (and Munster should have been binned). The teams, like last week, are all proving that they are prepared to cheat and put their players at risk. I’m sure there are a few that do take HIAs seriously, but it seems to be a minority. So it would seem these decisions need to be taken out of the hands of the team doctors, which is a terrible indictment on the clubs as a whole.

As an armchair expert I tend to agree…

And then there were two: Talking points from NRL preliminary final weekend

I get what you’re saying, but why would they select someone as the 18th man who was good enough to be in the starting 17?

And then there were two: Talking points from NRL preliminary final weekend

I watched the Wallabies game on Saturday night and there was a head clash and the referee stopped the game, no ifs buts or maybes, stopped the game when the Wallabies were on the attack in the Argies 22. It’d be nice to have the NRL support the referees to have the same level of confidence on the field.

I was ho humm about the pocket ref, but Klein at times was 30m+ from the ruck as he’s too busy getting the 10m set he can’t make decent judgements

Errors just kill you: Talking points from South Sydney’s rout of Manly

Nope it’s a number of clubs if not all in their own way. Tim Gore’s article rubbed me the wrong way (despite the fact he was right) that clubs will push the envelope to win. It’s just so problematic because it really could cause their own players harm down the track

Errors just kill you: Talking points from South Sydney’s rout of Manly

The Keppie incident was sadly a reflection of the Panthers incident last week. I could maybe buy the excuse that Klein wasn’t certain but the commentary team picked it up immediately and then he proceeded to fall down next to the following ruck and then stumble around in near the goal line for a couple more tackles. The sea eagles trainer is not really able to get there because he was not on the field as his team was defending, that’s where the bunker needed to step in or the touchies. But after last week the NRL has likely remimded the referees that they can’t halt play without a trainer doing an assessment, but that’s ludicrous when someone is so obviously incapacitated.
See Ivan, this is what cheating with trainers does, you put the welfare of players at risk
