Howdy. Just jumping in here to say I wasn’t referring to Pete – I was referring to some of the vitriol I’ve seen online (on Twitter and other social media apps).
AFL Trade Period power rankings: The team that cleaned up... and the one that just got nuked, AGAIN
Ditto with Sharp at us, I reckon.
AFL Trade Period power rankings: The team that cleaned up... and the one that just got nuked, AGAIN
Hill will help them out in the small forward brigade, McStay definitely provides them a strong key forward and Frampton will help out on defence.
Arguably the most vital addition is Mitchell, who helps them significantly in terms of the midfield – I read a stat that suggested they were lowly ranked in terms of clearances this year and Mitchell absolutely helps them there.
All four are very good additions to the Pies for mine.

Good piece, Josh.
Arguably the only thing the Suns did right was holding firm on not losing Jeremy Sharp to Freo (and Brayden Fiorini to the Pies). But they probably only accomplished that through the benefit of both Freo and Collingwood being preoccupied yesterday with other trades!

Absolutely horrific, and one of the most insidiously awful things I’ve read in a sporting domain. There needs to be a great reckoning within Hawthorn, but North and Brisbane need to have deep consideration about the culture they’re willing to foster at their clubs. Clarkson and Fagan are liabilities right now, and their successes mean for nought. Their departures need to be front of mind for the clubs.
And before the inevitable complaints; I fully understand the technicalities of innocent until proven guilty, but there’s no way the ABC runs this mentioning Fagan and Clarkson unless they’re confident in their reporting, and no way North and Brisbane should be considering their futures in an even remotely redemption-y light.

I’ll forgive the gloating, and wouldn’t mind seeing you win the thing, but unfortunately it seems likely that we’re gonna cross paths in week two!
Six Points: Get ready for a terrible six months Carlton fans, and toxic Zorko can't stay on as Lions captain
So, like Ferrari?
Me closing to become both a Ferrari and Freo fan is a recipe for disaster…
Six Points: Get ready for a terrible six months Carlton fans, and toxic Zorko can't stay on as Lions captain
That sounds about right! Reasonably confident – kinda – that we’ll win against the Dogs, but doubt we’d go much further than that first hurdle.
Would’ve loved to take on you guys in the a qualifying final – you’d have obviously been favourites but feel like we could’ve surprised ya’ll to earn ourselves a home prelim!
Oh well, we’ve got history winning finals the hard way…
Six Points: Get ready for a terrible six months Carlton fans, and toxic Zorko can't stay on as Lions captain
This sounds about right. I’m moderately confident we’ll beat the Dogs, but won’t get too far past that first hurdle sadly.
Would’ve loved a crack at you guys in a quali. You’d have been favourites of course but think we really could’ve given it a shake and could’ve surprised…
Oh well, winning finals the hard way is what we’ve done before.
Six Points: Get ready for a terrible six months Carlton fans, and toxic Zorko can't stay on as Lions captain
While consigning us to doing finals the hard way! 😛
Six Points: Get ready for a terrible six months Carlton fans, and toxic Zorko can't stay on as Lions captain
Too right, Macca. I’m aware I’m pretty fraught in Carlton sometimes – you wouldn’t have wanted to hear my reaction at work today when the final scores got messaged to me – but you’ve got the ingredients there for success.

Oi, I think my Pies tipping shouldn’t be questioned after I tipped them in that final against West Coast a few years back. One of my most flukey tips ever.
The Roar's AFL experts tips and predictions: Round 23
I really want top four – I’d feel more comfortable facing Geelong (it’ll be at the ‘G, we’ve beaten them this year, we’ll have the safety net of a home semi final if we lose) than facing any of the teams we’d get if we finish 5th or 6th (Tiges, Dogs or even Carlton would all be extremely dangerous in an elimination final with no safety net).
AFL Finals LIVE: All eyes on Blues and Pies as Dogs ask the question, Freo's top-four fate hangs in the balance
Be happy, but be recognisant that you’ve literally won on a technicality, and that him being out there in the next fortnight is a tainted victory.
CRIPPS CLEARED: Carlton captain free to play after appeal succeeds
Nah, was just making the point of while Ah Chee is out for his team’s final two games, Cripps gets to play despite making a stupid decision on field.
I’m really not mad at Cripps nor Carlton, it’s more the AFL who screwed up a chance to send a real message to the league about how the head truly is sacrosanct.
(But, just gotta vent: the reaction I’ve seen from Carlton fans online is disturbing, there’s a euphoria which strikes me as disconcerting given you won on a technicality while being the beneficiary of a flawed process).
CRIPPS CLEARED: Carlton captain free to play after appeal succeeds
Sanity would be Cripps sitting out for the next two games. The AFL is fundamentally flawed, and the Blues/Cripps have won tonight on a technicality.
CRIPPS CLEARED: Carlton captain free to play after appeal succeeds
Oh yeah, can’t argue with that. The AFL’s proven they’re fundamentally broken when it comes to tribunals and protecting the head, and it’s just immensely disappointing.
In a just world, there’s no way Cripps should be playing. I feel for Ah Chee right now.
CRIPPS CLEARED: Carlton captain free to play after appeal succeeds
Massive in terms your season, yep, and I can’t fault the lawyer.
But it’s a genuine farce his ban was overturned. The AFL really doesn’t seem to care about the head at all. Ridiculous.
CRIPPS CLEARED: Carlton captain free to play after appeal succeeds
That’s absolutely farcical.
CRIPPS CLEARED: Carlton captain free to play after appeal succeeds
Nice piece, Chris.
Jordan De Goey’s punishment cannot be blamed on the media, nor can Collingwood be accused of being too soft
With #2, neither have we 😛
I’m surprised there seems to be a supposedly overwhelming favouritism for Freo. I know you guys have injuries particularly down back we should be able to exploit, but I’m genuinely terrified for this one.
The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 15
That’s all good, I was maybe a bit harsh. I’m not too interesting in discussing this further; De Goey’s behaviour is something that – to borrow a usually stupid term – “triggers” me, and I’m just frustrated at him and the club which is appearing to condone it.
Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt
I’m not employed in the media, Pete. Don’t equate my writing for any current employment in the industry (not yet, anyway), just as I’m trying really hard to not equate your Collingwood fandom for your stances here.
Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt
Ironically, you’ve managed to ignore every ounce of my reply.
And for what it’s worth, for every Herald Sun out there, there’s a huge amount of media providing vastly better journalism than any Murdoch-owned paper.
Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt
For all the very good points you raise Dem, it’s the small things that most excite me about Freo and Fyfe looking superb in the practice matches is definitely one of them.
No captaincy, better pre-season = a strong, raring-to-go Fyfe. And jeez it’s awesome to see.
