Yeah, clearly missing a few to injury didn’t help but it was an astonishingly timid performance from Freo.

A super disappointing way to finish the season, and yet, somehow, I was not surprised.

Look … yeah, that was a bad tip.

The Doggies in worse form was clearly the bigger story, but I did make sure to simultaneously include plenty of praise for your boys!

I didn’t necessarily hold back on Freo, Macca!

Yep, pretty apt way to describe Carlton’s clash. I just saw Teague calling out Brown a few minutes ago and I laughed pretty hard. He’s certainly going out swinging!

In fairness I was hoping the other two would be going with Port so I could sneak in and claim the “upset” tip…

… that backfired.

Seems like it’s a day for retirements – Marc Murphy among them!

Summoning PTSD from my Power Rankings days but …. “It’s the vibe!”

If he proves he doesn’t get it, he shouldn’t be a part of the sport. And right now – between the racism, the shoddy apology video, the odd response from a few parts of the industry – he doesn’t appear to fully get it. I appreciate him being contrite about it, but he hasn’t proven anything except he feels bad.

I must say I’m not holding my breath on any of this though, given the long list of footy figures that remain public figures in this industry after some pretty heinous actions.

Why Taylor Walker’s apology isn't enough

Again, with respect, you’re not really articulating much more than cliches.

He’s not having his life destroyed. And certainly not by “some random”, if you recall this stemmed from a report by a Crows staffer.

The hypocrisy remains the biggest frustration from me – if he hasn’t learnt from his time at the club and the industry, he shouldn’t be a part of it.

Why Taylor Walker’s apology isn't enough

With respect, the use of the ‘holier than thou’ line to describe people criticising Taylor is a bit of a misrepresentation too. You don’t want a scenario where people can’t denounce racism and question the whole response without being labelled as doing something seemingly radical or ‘going too far’.

The biggest problem here – at least for me – isn’t the racism, it’s the hypocrisy and the lame response from Walker and other parties. I’m not needlessly lambasting him, it just strikes me as though he just doesn’t get it – or at least hasn’t been able to learn from everything else that’s happened in his vicinity over the last few years.

I’m not sure an individual deserves to be part of the sport if that’s the case.

Why Taylor Walker’s apology isn't enough

And Freo 😢

The hardest round to tip: Six talking points from AFL Round 21

Yes, but Walker’s place of employment is a football club that has experienced the stark reality of racism and one of his ‘workmates’ was a man (Betts) who has suffered racism for years. Racism that Walker condemned.

It’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise – if fans are banned, surely the players should be more sufficiently punished too.

Why Taylor Walker’s apology isn't enough

Tony Armstrong put it really well on the ABC this morning when he was describing how it’s almost always the Indigenous people (in this case, Robbie Young) who have to take the high road in these scenarios. Tex suggesting he’ll “lean on Robbie” is bizarre – why should Robbie have to be the one Tex relies on to get through this.

I honestly think the apology video is worse the more you watch it. It’s super awkward, and still leaves me feeling disillusioned with the response to this saga. So many responses falling flat.

Why Taylor Walker’s apology isn't enough

Yeah, I mentioned that in yesterday’s live scores blog – when Brisbane have that insane level of pressure, it’s unlikely many teams would be able to cope, let alone a young Dockers side.

Hoping your boys do good things in finals, Dingo.

‘Questioned under real pressure’: Dockers struggling to handle the heat

Good points. I’d actually prefer us not to make finals. If we had made it, it would’ve mostly been through fluke, and I doubt we’d have stood up under the finals spotlight.

We’re on the right track, but we got Brisbane at a bad time – we were vulnerable and they were always going to bounce back – but I didn’t expect they’d be that good. Their pressure was insane and Freo’s mostly young side just couldn’t cope, it happens. Frustrating but nothing to lose hope about.

A competitive Derby effort is all I’m really asking for. A win there would be excellent, and the Saints are gettable (depending on which version of them turn up!).

This year’s certainly the best since we last made finals, but 2022, I’m longing for you…

‘Questioned under real pressure’: Dockers struggling to handle the heat

Freo lost, the trash talk was inevitable!

‘Questioned under real pressure’: Dockers struggling to handle the heat

Yes, this hits the nail on the head!

The fact Walker played with Betts – who has experienced (and still does experience) so much discrimination – and still proceeded to do this is astoundingly daft.

Tex hit for six over racist remark

Too … much … support … of … Freo.

It’s making me nervous.

“Fremantle by 1”

There’s precedence for this, and I witnessed it in person.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 21

Writing off SA because we’re closer to NSW is a bit of a cheap shot. We’re more flexible quarantine wise (for sports teams), have Adelaide Oval and tend to be more flexible (or less reactive) in terms of crowds than WA.

Perth’s a great option, but SA is too often criminally ignored in these discussions.

The AFL must use an interstate hub for finals – and there's only one safe choice

By some on this forum especially, yeah.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 19

And I’m gonna assume the one game you’ve seen of us this year is the Cats clash last weekend? You know, our worst performance of the year.

Fyfe has been nowhere near his best this year, that is true, but that has allowed Brayshaw and Serong to really continue their development. Add in Darcy – who is phenomenal in the ruck – and Cerra (who is looking more and more likely to leave us, granted) and I cannot see how we can be considered anywhere near the worst midfield in the competition.

It isn’t the best – not even close, despite the, uh, claims of some – but I’m not comfortable with taking the opinion of someone who saw us at our worst and that’s the norm not the exception.
