Just one other thing regarding players being paid more for rep games. I have a sneaking suspicion that players are being payed more already. I’d be surprised if players in their contract don’t have bonuses for making representative sides.
I know when I was at the Sydney Kings our contracts had bonuses for making the playoffs or winning season awards. If the NBL were doing it I’m quite sure the NRL would be.
Rep players should be paid $100k each game
Oikee, soccer and American Football generate hundreds of millions of dollars. Rugby League doesn’t. So of course they are going to be paid that much. Rugby League players are getting paid up to 400K what is wrong with that, as if that type of money is not going to set them up for the rest of their lives.
It will be a long time before we start to see RL players earning over the millions of dollars, you can’t really compare RL to soccer(apart from the A-LEAGUE) or American Football.
Rep players should be paid $100k each game
100K each, thats $3.4 million in payments for one state of origin game! That $10.2 million for the series.Talk about throwing money away!
It should be spent on developing our game and getting fans to the grounds. Once stadiums are being filled then you can start to think about paying them that much money. Do you seriously think rugby league players are worth that much money? I certainly don’t.
Rep players should be paid $100k each game
The latter, no player should be picked because their team is better than another. But I do believe Ben Creagh’s workrate would significantly increase if on a side that needed him to be doing that.
Do the selectors even watch the matches?
I do question his form in rep games. He provides nothing in attack.
He is made for the hard hitting defense but NSW’s problem in the past and Australia of late has been putting points on the board. This is where I think someone like Creagh can give them a bit more of an edge in attack and lose nothing in defense.
Do the selectors even watch the matches?
The problem with looking at Gallens stats compared to Creaghs is that Ben doesn’t have to do as much work as Gallen for his team to win.
Ben Creagh is not needed to make 20 hitups a match in the team he is playing for. If Gallen doesn’t make 31 tackles and 20 hitups Cronulla will be belted. Do you seriously think Gallen would be making 20 hitups a match if he was playing with the Dragons. I highly doubt it.
Do the selectors even watch the matches?
I never bagged the Storm, I just said that they really don’t matter anymore this season. I loved watching them smack the Warriors last week, they’re a great team to watch.
This Friday night’s game should have a great atmosphere and will provide some quality entertainment. There is a rivalry between the two sides so there should be some big hits.
I was the same when the Dogs got kicked out in 02, they would have won that year hands down, but they cheated so they got the boot.
Atleast they didn’t get premierships stripped from them!
Move over Storm! Round eight is upon us
That is correct, but I think St Kilda aren’t the same team with their big guys up front out. Western Bulldogs are the form team of the competition, I think they may make a statement this weekend.
Move over Storm! Round eight is upon us
I’m a big fan of the AFL but can’t agree that the Western Bulldogs v St Kilda match will be as exciting as Friday Night Football. If St Kilda’s score of 44 points last week is anything to go by against Port, can’t see them putting up a fight against the Dogs.
Move over Storm! Round eight is upon us
In time of turmoil the NRL needs to shut out as much bad publicity as they can and find space for what possibly could be the biggest round of the season so far (Crowds wise).
With News Limited in their corner you think they could acheive that. Yesterday’s back page in Sydney was Israel Folau psosibly going to the Rebels! He is playing for Brisbane, why does that have to be backpage news in Sydney?
Move over Storm! Round eight is upon us
Yes definitely,
Janev deserves a crack at the big league again. He was with the Slingers and didn’t get a big enough chance. I went to high school a year under Blags, he is a great guy and would be an asset off the bench for the Kings. He would be cheap too.
It's showtime! The NBL is ready for lift-off
To think I was laughing at Colin Slyvia last weekend suggesting they are going to make the eight. A remarkable turnaround from the last two seasons! Good to see the young guys having a crack.
Melbourne’s demons now in the past
They will make the final 8 very interesting this season, especially if a team needs to beat them late in the season to gain a spot.
Should be interesting.
You're Mr Gallop. What would you have done?
Totally agree Billy, if Gallop didn’t step in and show he had some balls, then there would have been some serious questions going on about his position.
The question is if they will keep this stance up if they catch any other clubs!
You're Mr Gallop. What would you have done?
If the Storm play as well as they did last night, I don’t think they will lose another game this year. However I do believe Greg Inglis is finished after this season. Rugby Union is where he will be going, for sure!
Melbourne Storm still have it all to play for
@Don it is not a myth. The Melbourne Storm’s success over the last 5 years helped the Victory push for a new stadium..when you look at the two clubs you could say that the Storm were more successful, before this news came about anyway.
Rules are rules, so just deal with them
@Woodward I am not saying they are guilty but should not be forgotten in this saga!
The players I mentioned are the obvious parties..u can’t really disagree..they’re the ones who obviously were being overpaid to be kept in the club!
Rules are rules, so just deal with them
I am not putting all the blame on the players..but I really do think there is a bigger picture than just one guy!
Rules are rules, so just deal with them
I don’t understand how someones ego gets bigger when people hurl abuse at them.
I think it makes them more scared to make their own decisions.
NRL referees get it wrong, again and again
I agree with you BigKev. I really do believe the NRL should go back to a one msn refereeing system. Some of the younger refs that come in, don’t even blow their whistle half the time.
The game will be a lot more consistent than what it currently is and less complaints will be made. When decisions are incorrect people straight away look at the refs because there are so many of them out there.
NRL referees get it wrong, again and again
@Drew, Yes he did stand down the two referees, rightfully so. Do you think he would have stood them down if he wasn’t under the pump to keep his job? What about the two referees and two linesman that missed the forward passes that led to Manly’s loss, I can’t remember anything happening to them.
It’s all about consistency, and Finch is just all over the place at the moment.
NRL referees get it wrong, again and again
What about John Lawrence! Get him on board. He rocked the Entertainment Centre when Rodney O was back in the states.
Should the Sydney Kings sign Homicide?
I think I recall when the Kings came from behind the beat Perth in their first championship, the place was rocking. Another time was when Ebi Ere went mental to win the Grand Final against the Razorbacks.
Let’s hope that can happen this coming season. Big crowds and entertaining fixtures is just what the NBL needs. Lachie Reed is one of the best court announcers in the world! Perth are very lucky to have him!
Should the Sydney Kings sign Homicide?
The referees deserve their own little article! They were atrocious. Officially had no control over that match at all. Good to see the Dogs and Parra get off the bottom of the ladder! That spot is officially reserved for Cronulla!
Pressure mounting on Eels' superstars
Josh, I truly believe after watching his performances in state of origins and rep matches that his time is up. He brings nothing into the attack. I’m sure you bring in someone like Ben Creagh who is going to work just as hard and give you more of an edge on offence.
And yes I do watch my football, it is my opinion, I’m glad you voiced yours.
I may eat my words after this weekend but after what I’ve seen in Origins prior I’m not scared to say that he should have been axed. There are plenty of good players out there Josh.
You can read into stats all day, it’s how they perform on the big stage.
Gallen must have done well in reps, how many origin series has he helped NSW win in the past 5 years?
Do the selectors even watch the matches?
