Honestly, strictly speaking, the right to free speech is not enshrined in Australian law. In fact there are numerous state based laws which curtail free speech and make some forms of speech illegal.
The problem is, governments usually point to particularly abhorrent forms of speech and everyone furiously agrees they should be banned cause, you know, Nazis and stuff. Then a bit later on people start getting arrested for questioning lock downs and vaccine mandates. The rest of us start thinking “hmm, I don’t remember agreeing to that…”
State controlled and/or corporate controlled speech is the thin end of the wedge IMHO.

'Embarrassing post': Tigers star in strife over social media comment on LGBTQ+ inclusion

That’s a very broad statement. Interesting how you feel so free to criticise Christianity. I wonder if that’s because they’re so tolerant.

As for Judas, did it ever occur to you that he was destined to play his part? Without Judas, there is no capture, trial, crucifixion and resurrection. No saviour. No forgiveness of sins. But that’s another story.

'Embarrassing post': Tigers star in strife over social media comment on LGBTQ+ inclusion

You say that as if it’s still happening.

It was wrong then just as it’s wrong now. But you know, freedom of speech is only really tested when people say things you don’t like.

Thoughtcrime! Desperate need for re-education. Off to room 101 for Adam.

Head high tackles have always been illegal.

I don’t agree it will make the game a better spectacle.

'Can of worms': Rugby Australia introduce radical tackle law reform to protect players

Initially I thought this was a piece of satire. Apparently not.

There is an inherent risk in any contact sport. Whether this is an attempt to placate worried parents or create a flimsy future litigation shield is really not the question. The only real future protection is fully informed consent. Minors cannot provide fully informed consent. Making these rules is creating a rod for rugby’s back. To many liability issues to list.

'Can of worms': Rugby Australia introduce radical tackle law reform to protect players

Common sense seems to me to have prevailed. Perhaps it was not in the equation to begin with because of the instant cries of bigotry from the minority claiming oppression.

I’m telling you now, society has had enough. The pendulum is swinging back toward the centre.

'We are not a threat': Aussie transgender cricketer reacts with 'heavy heart' to ICC ban

Mate you’re in Lala land.

At both the average and the outlier, in any sport requiring speed, strength, endurance, coordination and general dexterity men are significantly superior.

As I said in an earlier post, at the elite level a 1% difference is massive. A 10-20% difference in not 1 but all of the categories listed above is simply overwhelming.

No female tennis player in history would make a NCAA final let alone qualify for a pro-final. Every participant in the US schools 100m final beat Florence Griffith Joyner’s 1988 100m world record.

As skilful and wonderful to watch as they were the Australian women’s soccer team would be beaten by at least 10 goals by a 4th tier men’s professional team.

The comparisons themselves could go on and on. It has nothing to do with training, talent pools, investment etc. the difference is purely biological.

Cricket is a game of speed, strength, endurance, coordination and indeed mental toughness. On at least 4 out of 5 of those scales the strongest, fastest, fittest and most coordinated woman in the history of the world could not compete with an above average male athlete. You can’t argue the science and you can’t change biological advantage once a person has been through puberty.

'We are not a threat': Aussie transgender cricketer reacts with 'heavy heart' to ICC ban

Not a chance in the world. Take women’s cricket. Give them 10 generations of training. 10 generations of professionalism. They could not compete against a men’s 1st grade team. This is not a criticism of women it is simply an unfair comparison. After a male has gone through puberty his physical differences to women in terms of bone density, strength, endurance, reaction time, coordination are significant.

At the top professional level of any sport a 1% difference is a massive advantage. At the elite level men have a >10% advantage in strength, speed, endurance and power. In fact in most cases it is 20%+.

The trans movement needs to accept that we do not want our daughters playing against biological men. Whether they’ve had full operations or not. Their advantages from male puberty remain. It is unfair and it relies on a form of discriminatory bullying to rationalise it.

Further, whilst I fully accept there are genuine trans people in our society it is my personal view that a number of people claiming to be trans are in fact suffering from personality disorders such as BPD and NPD.

I think the answer is a trans league.

'We are not a threat': Aussie transgender cricketer reacts with 'heavy heart' to ICC ban

You just made the case for not having people who have gone through male puberty play against women.

So here’s how it works. Doesn’t matter if you’re the CEO or coach if the chair on behalf of the board say “[insert name] has the full support of the board.” Then your job is gone.

In the case of a board chair the process is normally different. Generally, because of their experience, they can smell trouble brewing. They will then either ensure they have sufficient backing or negotiate a face saving exit. No board wants a public spat. The fact this has gone public suggests the current chair has ignored quiet suggestions and resisted common sense while failing to ensure he has support. In any event it doesn’t matter. His position is now untenable.

Raw nerve?

They continue to vote in the ANC and blame the past actions of white people for all their problems. The ANC has been running the country for 3 decades and it keeps going backwards. South Africa is the new Zimbabwe. I do feel for the poor and unfortunate people living in South Africa, I condemn apartheid but the ANC is fundamentally a kleptocracy masquerading as a socialist state. Strangely enough I’m not sure which is worse.

I must say, at the time I was perplexed. Clearly the penalty should’ve gone the other way. Just one of many, shall we say enigmatic, decisions made during the game.

THE GREATEST! Boks beat All Blacks in instant classic to claim record FOURTH RWC in controversial, dramatic final

Well done SA. Commiserations ABs.

From a neutral point of view the game was good in terms of tension but very poor as a rugby showcase.

Sick of the officials making themselves the centre of attention and failing miserably to have a sense of occasion. If Cane was a red so was Kolesi and if Kolesi was a yellow so was Cane.

The first yellow was, imo, a rugby general play incident not a YC. Also watching players stay on the ground to get reviews is a blight on the game.

Again congratulations to both teams.

You don’t say these things in public unless you want to be sacked. He’s angling for a negotiated payout. Crap coach but very good at managing expectations in both directions. Daring RA to get rid of him. EJ wants out. RA should play hardball. Gardening leave, restrictive covenants, oversight (coaching coordinator? Administrative hoops and hurdles). It’s petty but EJ’s particular form of psychopathy will be unable to tolerate it.

'I'm so pissed off': Eddie open to walking away from Wallabies if it suits RA, sticks knife into Hoops, Quade

Who’s up at 4 watching him work?

Honestly I’d rather he was lazy. At least then there’d be some excuse.

'F--king works so hard, bro': Wallaby star's message to angry fans after World Cup calamity

Gets up at 4 a.m. to work, work, work. That’s all Eddie does. He works he’s a hard worker. Do you not understand how hard he works?

What is he working on? His resume? Because he’s not working on selections. He’s not working on player skills or teamwork and he’s definitely not working on a game plan.

The players might be convinced Eddie has been good for them but he’s been very bad for Australian rugby. Picked the wrong team and instilled them with unearned arrogant confidence. They are in an echo chamber.

When I was playing Lord was Michael Hawker. Admittedly and thankfully he has a decade on me.

Do any young New South Welshmen actually want to play for the Waratahs?

Very interesting read. Growing up in Sydney and playing 13 years in the Shute Shield I saw alot of guys passed over for lesser players. The change came when the Brumbies entered super rugby. A heap of guys got the chance the Tahs wouldn’t give them and the result was the Brumbies (with a bunch of cast offs) started beating their more fancied opponents.

It is no coincidence that the rise of the Brumbies coincided with a golden period in Australian rugby. The Tahs are perennial underachievers. I think the culture needs fixing and I think their talent identification, development and retention departments need a kick up the backside.

Good article.

Waugh comments here are ridiculous but Raelene has left a trail of destruction wherever she has been.

World Cup quarterfinal scenarios: The Ireland vs Scotland result that would send home South Africa

Ok that was a train wreck. Directionless in attack. Game plan awful. 18 missed tackles to 9. Consistently outplayed in the backs. The fact EJ was smiling and saying “we’re still alive mate” in the post game is demonstrative of his total lack of ability to read a room. When the replacement 1/2 kicked away possession at the end of the game with a four man overlap I just shook my head.

Wallabies' RWC hopes still alive after wild win over Portugal - but it will take a miracle to avoid historic first flop

Its official name may be SCEGS but it is generally known as Shore being the first school on the north shore of Sydney. Yes he went there as did Bill Pulver and former chair Michael Hawker.
