Steve Merrick turned his back on a significant Wallabies contract to go back to Singleton and work in a coal mine. Accounting would be a doddle by that comparison.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

Yup. Slow news day, clearly.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

As if we needed any more convincing that Ed’s a total fabricator / BS merchant, he gave the game away completely with his reference to ” … a lot of my mates”. Utter fairytale that Ed has more than 1 mate who isn’t called Hamish.

'I am a better coach': Eddie's head-turning take, says several teams keen on him despite Wallabies flop

“ Yet, with a British and Irish Lions campaign and a home World Cup on the horizon, it is unlikely Nawaqanitawase will be lured away.‘ Is there even a story here?

NRL powerhouse target Wallabies young gun as replacement for Suaalii

Is it just me … or is Ed a total bell-end? (Can I say that on the Roar?)

'Load of rubbish': Eddie tees off on 'red herring' excuse for Wallabies' RWC flop, rejects Hoops issue, Lions link

Jeez, how nice to hear some measured, considered, non-management-speak comments from someone with no vested interest (and, from the sounds of things, has no axe to grind, regardless of his dismissal by RA). I think RA and the Aus rugby public would do well to take a similarly balanced view for the future. 2023 has sucked for us, no question. But it’s not the end of Australian rugby, or the universe for that matter, despite whatever utter tosh Ed and Hamo have been trying to obfuscate with to mask their respective missteps.

'You don't go back': Deans distances himself from Wallabies return as he echoes Waugh's comments on Jones era

Mate, if you paid any attention to the Giants in the latter part of the season, and you witnessed their support on the biggest stage of all at the ‘G, you’d know that is utter tosh. And I’m from WA.

'How much does Australian rugby want to learn from the world?': Why you've got to stay tuned into World Cup

Simplistically, that just sounds like a revenue pass-through, though, Jez. And the central body obviously would retain a significant portion of the income, a la the AFL, NRL etc – i.e. it’s not a case of RA of holding onto revenue that should rightfully all go to the Tahs, Reds etc. Which may or may not be relevant to the issue, but even if the position is that RA are threatening to recut or withhold the Tahs’ funding, isn’t that the only leverage they have to force this sort of change? Clearly, arguing for centralisation for the betterment of Aus rugby has gotten them nowhere to this point.

“Fiji will make the quarters. No question. They deserve to. ” – yep, and only one thing is more certain – which is that we most definitely do not deserve to.

'Fall guy': Eddie doubles down on future, makes three changes as Wallabies sweat on RWC miracle

Basically agree, but … WHY … IS … VUNIVALU … STILL … BEING … PICKED?

Fair cop, HO, all good. I’m an optimist, too. At least, I was until I woke early to watch the Wales match in the wee hours of Monday AM.

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

“Tim Horan even said that it could have been about anything. ” – but oddly enough just happened to coincide with their coaching recruitment window. Coincidence, I’m sure.

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

“HopelessOptimist”, eh? Your moniker gives it away – you’re so obviously taking the mickey, and just dining out on the rest of us poor Roarers falling for it hook, line & sinker. Bravo, very funny now that I’ve slowly worked it out.

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

“seems so many wallaby fans woke up on Monday and just discovered we are pretty ordinary” – there’s a colossal difference between pretty ordinary, and completely in the toilet. The former pre-dates Eddie, the latter is 100% Eddie’s doing.

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

A CEO can’t remove the Chair. It’s quite the opposite. So unless the board coalesce around the issue and demand Hamish’s resignation, he’s going nowhere. Flying pigs etc

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

I actually thought he meant they were stopping for snacks mid-defence.

Rory? Not Richie?

The Wrap: Group C fast becoming everyone’s favourite - except for the Wallabies as early flight home looms large

And last week had the temerity in his Australian column to question the change of coach from Rennie to Jones!!! After several years of heaping endless scorn and vitriol on Rennie and RA for not being up to scratch. Personally, I was pro-Rennie (probably will remain so, unless Eddie pulls a rabbit out of his hat), but Jones’ hypocrisy is breathtaking.

RWC News: 'Doesn't make sense' - why ex-Wallaby coach wants Carter axed, Mack bemoans mates 'smoking vapes, drinking beer'

Only if he’s from the NRL, or has never been a prayer coach before now.

Wallabies set to back veteran halfback for crunch Fiji World Cup clash, gun fullback misses selection again

Would welcome Jez Nez’s view on Zane. Jez appears to more relevant and informed views on props than the rest of us pillocks added together. Jez?

Wallabies set to back veteran halfback for crunch Fiji World Cup clash, gun fullback misses selection again

I read this to mean Kellaway has been ‘dropped’ from 15, but with Vuni on the bench, Kel moves to wing. Not dropped from the match day 23 outright. Christy?

Exclusive: Eddie to spring huge No.15 shock to start World Cup as Donno's 'natural game' gives him an edge

You know, Hazza, given what Kwagga offers – great run, strong over the ball, good hands but not tall and not heavy on the kgs – I’ve often wondered why the masses don’t shout him down for being too small, too weak, too prone to being rag-dolled like one M Hooper. I’d go so far as to venture that Kwagga’s occupied the mantle of cult hero and fan favourite at times. But we Aussies look at our bloke, who is an out and out, never-say-die competitor and an obvious leader of men, almost a physical proxy for Smith, and insist on labelling him as an ineffectual pretty boy and a poor man’s version of a proto 7. Maybe a mindset thing between our respective nations, in so far as how we celebrate (or denigrate) our champions.

SPIRO ZAVOS: The best team in the tournament, not necessarily the best team, will win the 2023 RWC

LP, re “It won’t get more sponsorships and I can’t see Stan paying too much more for games that only a small number of fans would watch”. Agree and moreover, don’t they already pay for it? I literally wouldn’t know another person in my coterie of mates (I do have a few, not many maybe, but a few) who watches even 50% of the rugby on TV that I watch, and I barely pay the Shute or HC games on Stan a passing glance most weekends. Hard to see that injecting a few more Wallabies into some of the clubs is going to move the needle on the broader TV rights package.

Why RA CEO is leaning into 'beating heart' of club rugby in third tier plan as crunch talks loom

It’s hard for me to see that Waugh is advocating anything other than the promotion of a collection of Sydney and Brisbane clubs. The point’s been made already – how would this bring the rest of the national rugby community along for the ride, let alone enlarge it?

As you say, those club communities won’t be prejudiced one way or another – the usual punters will keep supporting their clubs regardless of the intro of an elevated, national 3rd tier. I get down to see my old clubs here in WA often enough (Soaks and Uni) and that won’t change, even if we had a NRC etc reintroduced.

And Waugh has just got to be taking the mickey if he reckons the calibre of club footy is anywhere near NPC or the English Prem or Top 14. It’s like u10s by comparison.

I get it that currently comparing those comps to the Shute etc is apples and oranges, but then I go back to Pulver’s observation from last decade – the Sydney clubs (at least) can’t be relied on not to p!$$ any additional $ up the wall in a totally unsustainable way. The idea of elevating their lists and facilities to something closer to an English or French equivalent is guaranteed to end in a sweeping array of insolvent clubs.
