Hi Paul,
Neser is yet to play a first class game at the MCG in 2019. In 2018, he played 2 first class matches against Victoria at the MCG, picking up figures of 1/39, 3/39 and 3/49 at an average of 18.14. These included key wickets such as Marcus Harris, Aaron Finch, Travis Dean, Glenn Maxwell and Peter Handscomb. Unfortunately, I’m not aware of his all time average at the MCG but these are good statistics to begin with.
Australia needs Neser to cover hurt Hazlewood
This case of the bails not falling off has occurred extremely often in the last couple of years, particularly in international cricket. I’m not sure whether the bail makers are doing anything different or not but regardless, this is starting to became a big issue. Also, Karunaratne ended up with 59 out in the end which is needless to say, a good score.
Remarkably stubborn bails rob Pakistan quick of a wicket
The Australian T20 team has been doing great although I would’ve liked to see the inclusion of a few more T20 specialists in the side. For example, D’Arcy Short, Chris Lynn and Jake Weatherald (to name a few). This would’ve been a good chance for them to put their names forward for the World Cup and get the game time they deserve. D’Arcy Short got player of the tournament in the 2018/19 Big Bash as well as the 2019 Vitality Blast and definitely deserves to play for Australia.
Langer has Australia purring in T20Is
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big supporter in Michael Neser making his test debut, but I don’t believe it should be this summer. That’s because with a bowling attack of Pattinson, Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Richardson, I don’t really think that Australia needs another pace-bowler thrown into the mix. Although he has been performing quite well with the bat and despite Mitch Marsh being injured, Australia’s still got many top quality all-rounders to choose from such as Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Agar. However, as Neser is 29 years old, he still has a bit of time to make his test debut.
Why Michael Neser must play in the first Test
The article is about why and why not Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw should open for Australia in the upcoming test series against Pakistan
Should Khawaja and Renshaw open against Pakistan?
Thank you 😁 I just tried to tie the last paragraph with the heading to make the entire article link together more smoothly.
Should Khawaja and Renshaw open against Pakistan?
I would have Khawaja and Burns opening. Warner is out of form and despite scoring a century, he had a very average ashes series and, he did get out for a golden duck in the very next innings. Don’t get me wrong, Warner is still a class batsman, I just think he needs to get his confidence back from a couple of consistent big scores before he plays for Australia again in tests.
David Warner and Joe Burns should be the openers for the First Test
This year, Tim David wasn’t offered a WACA Contract so instead he spends the Australian domestic cricket season playing for Singapore with the occasional Grade Cricket game for Claremont-Nedlands. Tim David will still get hopefully offered a spot on the Perth Scorchers’ roster and, it’s interesting to see him do so well against top quality international teams like Zimbabwe.
The players to watch at the T20 World Cup Qualifier
Hi Bilbo, I agree but fortunately, Cricket Australia is now allowing every big bash team to have up to 4 international players. This caused teams to sign legends such as AB De Villiers and Dale Steyn as well as other great players like Alex Hales, Phil Salt and Tom Banton for the upcoming season. Hopefully, with players of this calibre, The whole league should improve immensely.
Why BBL08 wasn't a hit
Hi Wayne, I couldn’t agree with you more. The BBL is no longer a ‘must watch every game’ league and instead has become a competition where, to be honest, most games don’t even matter. Unlike when there was only 40 odd matches when every match had a level of importance or ‘must-watch’ atmosphere to it.
Why BBL08 wasn't a hit
I believe that Usman Khawaja should open for the New Zealand and the Pakistan Tests. This is because he averages over 70 against these 2 countries and he has a higher test batting average as an opener than a number 3 batsman.
Warner and Pucovski ton up in Sheffield Shield
Hey Jeff, I agree with you. I think that Paris is a class-bowler but with WA’s bowling attack it is tough for him to get a game. Perhaps playing for another state such as Tasmania or South Australia where they don’t have any overly strong bowling attack would be ideal for his career.
What happened to Joel Paris?
I think Tim Paine is a class batsman but, I still believe that Wade should be keeping for Australia in Tests and that they should hand the captaincy to someone like with more experience such as Usman Khawaja or Pat Cummins. However, this was still a marvelous innings from Paine at the WACA yesterday, I just wish it could occur more often.
Tim Paine finally breaks 13-year drought with his second FC century
In the Stars’ recent match against the Melbourne Renegades, all 5 Western Australians in the Stars’ squad were chosen for the starting XI. This increases the chance for all of them to play against the Scorchers next Wednesday significantly. This is helped by the fact that the Melbourne Stars have now lost Adam Zampa and Peter Handscomb due to international duty.
