France was the only country to promote Tier Two referees to officiate the World Cup games.

France have always backed up the Tier Two countries in the face of Tier One elitism.

France was deserving.

France, not South Africa, to host 2023 World Cup after secret ballot

With guys like punter, no wonder this football site is going to the dumps.

“Super rugby brings in much need paytv money.”

The days of pay TV, like Foxtel, are limited. It really is a dying breed. But again, I am not surprised at all how “out of touch” those at the ARU are with the current trends of society.

Foxtel is on a downward spiral, exacerbated by sports fans stopping their subscription after Optus won the rights to the Premier League.

let the rest of us enjoy making the World cup.

That’s not what Ange wants though is it. He wants to make a statement at the World Cup, not just having a party simply because we qualified.

Jedinak leads Socceroos to Russia

What is the point of your 2010 and 2014 WCQ?

Clearly, Mexico finished top of the CONCACAF despite losing to Honduras. Simple as that.

Jedinak leads Socceroos to Russia

Outside of the actual football fans, everyone else in this country will scream “Asia is so easy”.

Jedinak leads Socceroos to Russia

Australian Rugby needs to leave Super Rugby ASAP, it cannot come sooner enough. It simply does not capture the sporting imagination in this country.

The sport must focus 100% of their efforts into one league. Not swapping between Super Rugby and NRC depending on the time of the year.

If ARU are serious about the NRC then it must do much better. Barely anyone knows this great competition is taking place (and can you blame them?).

You know how it works Caltex.

Dare to speak one bad word against Ange and his players and (according to Nemesis) you are automatically a “crash ball” thugby fan or AFL maniac.

Jedinak leads Socceroos to Russia

Ange has taken this team as far as he possibly can.

Unbelievable how poor this Honduras team was, like many have observed, the likes of Iraq and Thailand would have no problems dealing with the same opposition.

But like others have pointed out, does Australian Rugby and its fans have the resources to financially and emotionally invest in the Wallabies, Super Rugby and the NRC?

It would be a huge shame for NRC to be sandwiched between Super Rugby and Wallabies in the long term as some gimmicky “three month pro comp”.

Outside of the hardcore sport fans (especially those living in a competitive market like Australia), many simply do not have the time or the money to support a competition that is not the top level or merely exists to support a team “halfway between Super Rugby and Shute Shield”.

Time will tell.

Are you the same “Fred” who claims rugby league is bigger than Rugby Union in England?

League pioneer's dream: To live to the next World Cup

Well, that’s not what the title says. These articles are usually titled “team of the pool games”.

My Rugby League World Cup team of the tournament

and the Fijian Drua inclusion has been a masterstroke. Combine the NRC with a few Top League clubs and you have an awesome 10-12 team league.

Team of the tournament… before the tournament is even over?

My Rugby League World Cup team of the tournament

Thanks for covering the NRC this season, sensational effort as always!

I know there are major barriers but I would love to see the NRC replacing the sad state of Super Rugby. NRC becoming the top tier domestic Rugby Union competition in this country.

Yes, the crowds in the NRC were not earth shattering but if the ARU and all of the Australian Rugby community put in 100% of their efforts in growing this league it would be awesome.

I simply cannot see Super Rugby being sustainable, culling franchises will not increase the embarrassing crowds, viewing numbers and general engagement with the sporting public.

It would be nice, for a change, if AUS could be Grouped with the weakest nations in each Pot.

How do you define “weakest nations”? Have you watched every WCQ of the remaining 31 nations at the World Cup? Do you know their strengths and weaknesses or are just blindly looking at the numbers of FIFA ranking and pretending you know these teams.

There are infinite variables between the World Cup draw in December and the actual group games next year.

Exactly…big difference in getting Brazil, Spain, Denmark to say…. Russia, Peru?, Costa Rica.

Never underestimate the hosts, South Africa is the only nation not to qualify from the group games as hosts.

Costa Rica finished ahead of Uruguay, England and Italy in 2014! Have you watched Costa Rica in these WCQ?

Hilarious, all these posters pretending to know which countries are better and worse than others.

Sit down in the corner, be quiet and look the other way you sad embarrassing pudding. Rugby tab not giving you love these days? Your time is up.

Yes All Blacks jerseys are everywhere in Tehran, Jakarta and Mumbai lol.

I’d argue that it would take some difficulty finding kids wearing LA Lakers jerseys in Tehran, Jakarta and Mumbai. Especially having visited the latter two cities on multiple occasions.

A true hybrid: One rugby code to rule them all

350 000 Germans viewers for the All Blacks vs Argentina in a pool game at the 2015 Rugby World Cup suggests they would have no problem selling out stadiums in Munich should they play Germany in the future.

A true hybrid: One rugby code to rule them all

They played in Chicago in front of a crowd of Irish supporters who would have turned up to see Ireland in any sport.

The All Blacks played the US national Rugby Union team at the same venue, Soldier Field in Chicago, in 2016 with a sell out crowd.

A true hybrid: One rugby code to rule them all

Fred, with some basic Googling you’ll be pleased to hear the All Blacks have sold out stadiums in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Toulouse, (insert major South African city), Rome, Milan, Apia, Singapore, Vancouver, Buenos Aires, Rosario and Chicago.

A true hybrid: One rugby code to rule them all

Christian, can you please stop dismissing other posters with sarcasm. Lukaku scored 2 goals in his first ever league game for United against West Ham.

How can anyone have a rational argument when you adopt an immature approach. You clearly never address anyone’s rational arguments as you deliberately choose not to reply to anyone showing how flawed your arguments are.

The fact you did not know many of the Japanese players playing big minutes in the top European leagues shows how much you know about Asian football and also European football to a large degree.
