The Sydney NRL clubs would never prefer Brothers or the Diehards. Neither of those teams would generate the gate takings in Sydney that the Bears would. The first season alone would probably spike Bears away matches in Sydney by 7k-10k as Bears fans who have been without their team for 16 years show up en masse.

The NRL are not interested in expansion right now (due to the NSW clubs), and it is becoming quite obvious that the Titans are slowly going the way of their predecessors. The Bears would provide an instant lift to the Sydney clubs’ bottom line in terms of gate takings, and crucially, I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet by the way, they would be far, far more attractive for Fox and Nine, as there is no question that the Bears would rate significantly higher than the Titans.

I agree the Bears would have work to do in order to build up a fanbase on the GC, and if they took games away there would likely engender some resentment, but the Titans are a toxic brand that nobody on the GC really cares about anyway. The Bears are more financially stable, and they do have a link to the GC area in the form of Seagulls. Time to give them a crack at it.

It’s a Bear market on the Gold Coast

That’s rubbish. The only part segregated at SFC is the active support. I’ve seen MV and WSW shirts sitting 4 or 5 bays from the Cove, surrounded by SFC supporters in non-active support and there hasn’t been any trouble. It’s basically exactly the same as any NRL or AFL match.

Can’t speak for Melbourne though, as I have only been in the SFC away support.

What are the soccer haters so afraid of?

kellett, you posted an article from Fox Sport from Saturday, and ignored the direct quotes from Neill at his Press Conference today where he said that MH offered $100k and SFC offered $70k. Great investigative journalism there mate!!

Double boost for Sydney FC's finals hopes

John Grant to take a 3 month sabbatical to learn about accountable sporting management from Sepp Blatter.

Can you predict the rugby league headline acts in 2013?

Queensland weren’t undeserving the last 7 years, just last year.

Can you predict the rugby league headline acts in 2013?

It’s surprises me that nobody has mentioned the fact that SFC still has Culina, Joel Griffiths, Bosschaart and Fabio to still come back into the team. That is a lot of talent to have on the sidelines, and bodes well for the Sky Blues going forward..

What was different about Sydney FC against the Mariners

As a long suffering Ti-Cat fan, I’ll be cheering for the Stampeders, because I cannot bear the thought of the Argos winning. Great to see an article on the CFL though!

Games you should watch today: The Grey Cup

Why should we take 100% of the injury risks (and bad injuries do happen in friendlies, especially in the middle of the off-season) for 25% of the reward, whilst WSW, CCM and the Jets put up their feet? That’s ridiculous, Pignata wouldn’t agree to it and SFC fans would be extremely pissed off if he did.

No more gimmicks in the A-League, please

He will give it a second thought if he understandshow a successful Futsal program can help the National Team. Seriously Reynoldinski, your comments show just how ignorant you are about football.

Gallop's FFA task: Consolidation not expansion

Whilst I agree with the sentiment here wrestlingroots, it may be a lot more difficult to implement wrestling techniques into American Football. The reason for this is purely because of the weight of the pads that they wear. They heavily restrict your arm movement, to the point where is it actually incredibly difficult to tackle effectively using the Rugby League technique. With the increasing emphasis on protecting the head that is happening over there, combined with their excellent approach to sports science, and if the League technique could have been used without compromising their ability to effectively tackle, it probably would have already been done.

NZ Warriors: Less whingeing, more commitment, the order of the day

Couldn’t agree more. Douglas Santos should be the first addition to that coaching staff. Even before any Assistant Coaches.

NZ Warriors: Less whingeing, more commitment, the order of the day

I just want to point out one small error here. Melbourne’s salary cap breaches weren’t committed in order to attract new and bigger stars to the club, most of who they brought in came for less money then they would have got elsewhere. The breaches were committed in order to keep their big name guys like Slater, Inglis, Smith, Cronk, Hoffman, Manu, White and Blair. These are players who the Storm developed themselves. In a weird way, the Storm were victims of their own incredible scouting network.

Salary cap penalties miss the mark
