Patriotic Queenslander hailing from south side of Brisbane. Support anything, Red, Dark Red, Maroon, Green & Gold, and teams from Brisbane or Gold Coast. Still waiting for a stadium and team on the southside of Brisbane.

Wow, thanks for that Simmo. Has same great history and pedigree. Location of 1987 World Cup Semi-Final Wallabies v France. Being from Qld, I’m ashamed to say I’ve never heard of it.
How many would it get in the door for Waratahs v Crusaders?

You guys in Sydney are spoiled for stadiums. In Brissy, we have Suncorp, and Ballymore is about to be downsized.

Timbo (L) response above probably sums things up. “Illegal? – The law says that a player in an offside position shall take no part in the game.” It is a grey area for sure. Problem is, that try was the turning point in the game. Definitely was more ass than class though, will agree with you there.

Well balanced response there Timbo.
Would probably add video ref needed to review tries when attacking players lurk in the defensive line.

Right you are Big Dave. Mon 22nd of April.

North Sydney Oval , or
as per top shelf suggestion from Simmo below, Concord stadium, the home of the 1987 World Cup Semi-final Wallabies v France. Both have 20k capacity.
Simmo, Concord reminds me of Ballymore. Great idea.

Beale and Holloway bring NFL to Super Rugby

He could have run outside of Holloway, accept Holloway is not a ghost, and he is a carbon lifeform.

Beale and Holloway bring NFL to Super Rugby

Wrong in both accounts.

Which way does Hegarty have to run to cover Rona… He needs to run backwards towards his own try line and drift towards the touch line.

Who has plonked there large frame in that position, blocking space for the natural defensive action… Holloway.

Not offside. Have a look at the replay again. Think your issue there is the camera angle. Hegarty is at a walking pace looking ahead at Moses to kick, once kick is released Hegarty starts running.

Point again. Holloway positioning himself in the defence line, limits the defences ability to drift. This is winger work 101, back pedal and drift to buy time for inside cover to get the man.

There is when he stops in the defence line.

Beale and Holloway bring NFL to Super Rugby

True. Rugby should be played on a rectangle ground. That said, North Sydney Oval has successfully hosted past few Shut Shield Grand finals and with dodgy playing surface, is the lesser of two evils when compared to SCG.
Eels and Panthers play away games in Round 2 of the NRL, that could be an option, but it is not Rugby heartland territory, and longer drive for fans.

Ha. No kidding! Might be why it wasn’t picked up by kiwi ref then.
Grasp late game locations are complex. But so is spinal surgery. Player welfare should trump complexities.

Sory, he did a lot more than that. Holloway clearly signaled Beale. He raises his hand and then races beside Hegarty. His momentum can be seen coming to a deliberate stop to box in Hegarty, preventing Hegarty from tackling in the 5m and side line zone.

Hardly benign, blocking the 5m to sideline zone lead to a try, and influenced the game.
Had it not been awarded, a different 2nd half plays out. Reds would have likely taken penalty shots at goal rather than trying to score a try in attempts to make up 9 point deficit. Late in game Waratahs had luxury of being able to infringe. Easy to infringe knowing a Red’s 3 point penalty was insufficient to threaten the win.
Agree with you on other obstruction examples. All need review and better policing on the field. Almost warrants providing captains the ability to challenge an on field call (or lack there of), which would go straight to video ref.

Paul D, responded already below. Question though, did you see the lead up play? The intent of Holloway was to obstruct the 5m to sideline zone.
It denies Hegarty, or whoever it may be in future, the opportunity to back pedal and shift defence to the wing. This is important, as in this case, the inside cover defence was closing in on Beale.

If you watch a mini snippet then you probably miss the lead up actions.
Holloway clearly signals Beale. He raises his hand. Holloway then clearly races beside Hegarty, and comes to an abrupt halt, clearly planting himself on outside of Hegarty. This cannot be disputed.
The outcome of this, Hegarty is boxed in and the only tackle he can make is the one on Beale.
You are arguing Hegarty was only going to tackle Beale. I’m arguing, Holloway being there in the first place obstructed ability for Hegarty to drift defend into the 5m to sideline zone. When boxed like that beside tall second rower, the tackle on Beale is all that was left.

So offered two options in article. A united Pacific team and a single qualifier. Pros and cons of both. Take your points. What you need to appreciate though is depth and player welfare. This is the major advantage of a combined team. Another advantage is success. Greater depth leads to greater success. No Pacific team has made it to semis of rwc. This is due to a lot of factors like opportunity to play against top tier nations, smaller player base, money, lack of large stadiums and gate takings. Pacific Islands combined would be a weapon.

British lions.

The 12-team World Rugby Championship

Cute comment. Explain your rationale. What are the issues?

The 12-team World Rugby Championship

I’d be for Fiji in place of Italy to form an Anzac Conference. They could have one wild card entry each year to spread the love.

The 12-team World Rugby Championship

You are probably right there. Travel distances start to get crazy though. Do they need both Japan and USA for finances? Is Italy really needed to make it work?

The 12-team World Rugby Championship

I take objection to that comment. Pacific Islanders are more than capable of playing together. Good thing about coming from a multi-cultural country like Australia and NZ means we play united teams.
By your rationale, Folau shouldn’t play for oz. Same for Samoans, Fijians and Tongans playing for All Blacks. What do you think happens if USA gets the nod? Pacific Island players end up in USA, which is a far cry from local Pacific countries.

Just rolled the Highlanders!

Should Matt Toomua play for the Reds?

Yeh, that is what I read also Rhys about Duncan. If players are getting rested like they should be, it should provide opportunities for the next wave to come through. With reports of the 12 Nations Rugby Championship, they are going to want to be. Should be a max number of game time hours they can clock.

Should Matt Toomua play for the Reds?

What about the Moses-Toomau-Kerivi?

Should Matt Toomua play for the Reds?

Some good points there.

Worth adding, with Toomah there is advantage of having a genuine general on deck to mentor the new crop of flyhalves. Same goes with every Aussie franchise team.

Should Matt Toomua play for the Reds?

Thanks RR.
Toomua is only available for last few games, so Stewarts development shouldn’t be impacted this season. With reports of player movements in the centres at reds at end of year, having Toomau and Stewart could balance this out. Both play 10 and 12, but with Toomau as first pick 10.
