you’re right he should come home to the city where he was born – which he foolishly rejected for that ill fated polish move.

now he earns a lot more money, but isnt playing in his natural position

If it wasn't for Irankunda, every A-League headline would be negative right now

‘tapping up’ a player is standard practice that the bigger a league clubs always have used with the smaller a league clubs.

i guarantee you that 90% of young a league players who (show real potential) and re still under contract have been approached by a rival club

If it wasn't for Irankunda, every A-League headline would be negative right now

just this season Mike? – everything good with the mens version of the sport for the last 3-4 years has come out of south australia.
*each international team from the the juniors to the senior side has 6/7 players from SA in it
*the best player for the socceroos has been craig goodwin
*the best player in the a league has been craig goodwin
*4 head coaches from SA as a league coaches
*best youth in the country by a long way (and with plenty more to come)
*most attacking brand of football in the a league of the past 3-4 seasons.
*the best national premier league competition in the country
*the best national premier league side in the country
*one of the only debt free a league clubs
*best stadium in the country
*almost 8million dollars coming into the club from player sales
i could go on and on, but the bigger questions is given how much money both nsw and victoria put into the sport (compared to SA) why are both those states failing (inparticular victoria) when it comes to football and developement
i spoke with ben garrucio during the day whilst he was here at his parents place as he is an adelaide boy and would like to finish his career in SA (adelaide are trying to work a way to get him back home because hes got 1 year left on his contract with western)
what i didnt see was his post match interview, which after watching it earlier- echos what i have been saying ever since ive been doing what ive doing.
coaching has always been the issue in this country when it comes to developement
i could go on and on, but what the point when the perception is sydney/vic dominate all aspect of the sport?

If it wasn't for Irankunda, every A-League headline would be negative right now

the a league has always been a developement league, its just only 4 clubs ever treated it like one (adelaide/mariners/brisbane/wellington)

if covid didnt happen sydney/victory/wanderers/city would still be playing teams full of 30+ year olds

A-League avoids total embarrassment after broadcast partner goes belly up

i shouldnt laugh, because it is a big blow.

but where are all the people gone that said danny townsend would save australian football (including a few of the main posters on here)

i warned everyone what would happen when you give a person like this so much power when they were already in charge of the biggest a league club (that had multiple seasons of salary cap breaching which were all swept under the rug coincidentally)

every decision he made whilst in charge was a failure:

*a league logo copied from an adelaide business.
*the apl board being 95% from NSW
*changing the name from w league to a league
*trying to bring inclusitivty to the sport in australia
*grand final debacle
*a round where every team players in sydney
*how ‘active support’ was handled
*30+ million into keepup
*intricacies of the TV deal hidden from clubs.

A-League avoids total embarrassment after broadcast partner goes belly up

one of the most accurate posts I’ve seen someone write here.

lose the ‘foreign’ coach’s + players from the premier league and it would be a very average league

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

its always a good time to have a go at english football:

*insufferable fans (who believe the national team is the best)
*insufferable fans (who believe the premier league is the best in the world
*insufferable media (who believe the team is the best)

etc etc

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

i have zeros issues with an australian born coach taking the reigns, howver find me an australian coach willing to play somewhat attacking football.

even ange struggled to do that, but he had people behind the scenes who wanted him out before he could even change the layout of development in this country

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

england is very similar to australia currently – boring to watch, a coach that selects players who arent fit or playing weekly and a coach that is terrible in front of the media.

the big difference is the several hundred millions of dollars theyve spent on development over the past 100 years with hardly anything to show for it – i still stick with what i’ve always said about them – they are the worst bang for buck country in the world when it comes to football.

theres plenty of players that could be selected, you cant keep recyling the same players eg maclaren, duke, tags when there are other options.

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

im talking WC 2022, renard was on $200K less than arnold.

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

serbia as a footballing nation has alot of other issues that australia does not want from an international point of view – namely its federation has opposing views on players and coaches.

a good example i can give that i havent really spoken about on here is adelaide uniteds luka jovanovic who has made it clear that he would much rather represent serbia than australia

a person from the SFA approached the family and everything looked signed and sealed, only for that particular perseon to reneg and ghost the family – now jovanovic is up in the air in terms of who to represent. (that particular person is no longer employed by the SFA anymore either)

australia does not have to contend with that level of infighting from the sports major organisation that has never really been unified.

you also have to realise that rankings dont mean anything, nobody takes them seriously – if you ask any person in europe or south american from a country where football is #1 they would laugh at australia being ranked the 11th best team at the world cup or whatever there ranking is currently.

rankings can easily be padded based on who the oppposition and the results against them – you cannot really compare the 2 countries (especially football wise) asia is a far easier qualification than europe

the sum of australias parts is what makes it a better team than serbia, plain and simple. (just like in club football the most expensively assembled team doesnt always beat the least expensive side)

if you go man for man, developement, technical skills at juniors levels, coaching even financially etc – australia is miles behind.

but like i said you cant really compare the 2 sides – they each has different problems

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

herve renard fits that criteria (is in a good salary range) + he has the benefit of being excellent in front of the media (something a lot of aussie coaches have struggled with)

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

the WC performance was a once in a 100 year performance (another loss in asian WC qualifying and arnie would’ve been out of his job – thats not a backhanded insult to australia, it is what it is)

its not that everyone here thinks they can do personally better than Arnie, even his biggest critics (waz, myself etc) critisize him because australia could and should be doing better

(you need to also remember that half of my vitriol aimed at arnie is how he treated me twice in person & ive also explained why he is not well liked by adelaide united in general)

like i said countless times, i think he is a fine club coach – but he doesnt have the required “panache” for international coaching.

international coaching if a completely different ball game – its slower, more methodical, more tactical than club football (you might only get 2 half chances at goal as opposed to 8 in club football)

international football is about selecting the best performing clubs players (which arnie has never done) – if he starts doing this, then the angry mob will hae no choice but to go after him for his actual coaching.

australian to a certain degree is lucky that is so isolated when it comes to football, because if the country was in europe – the press and fans would eat arnie alive.

ive mentioned the massive uproars i witnessed first hand when i was in some of the countries in europe mid last year.

*the infighting of the bulgarian FA – which involved the actual countries president
*the debate in serbia of whether players playing in saudi arabia should ever player international football again because the league is poor (these were leading players in the premier league, serie a, la liga last season)
*the internal conflict of some members of the montenegran FA not wanting to nationalise players with african heritage

australia as a country is developing some fine technical players, unfortunately they play like an asian minnow instead of playing like an asian powerhouse (which the country should be)

i dont expect australia to play like japan or south korea, in my view australia should play the third best football in asia (they dont) and its a concern when uzbekistan and tajikistan play better football than australia in all the under age tournaments

im sorry, the way the senior australian side plays is purely down to how the side is coached.

i guarantee you arnies opposite number tonight, would get this side playing better football

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

its like i said the other day, what would the lebanon coach (radulovic) be like if he was in charge of australia?

radulovic has always had pedigree from his days in charge of international youth teams (which were heralded for there attacking output.

***runners up in euro under 21’s in 2004

topped their group with italy before losing in the final in italy.

in that squad was the mercurial branislav invanovic who fans of the premier league would be familiar with

****semis of the euro under 19’s in 2005

in that squad was a player a league fans would be familiar with due to his time in perth (nebojsa marinkovic)

topped their group undefeated (which included a 4-2 win over germany which had manuel neuer in goals and kevin prince boateng in midfielde.

radulovic was also a name i floated that australia could’ve hired on a quarter of the dollars what arnie was on after the world cup

radulovic also coached the montenegro senior team which has always been an extremely talented side, they just dont seem to mesh well as a group

Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football

cant do much more with hindmarsh in terms of developing it further structually (its heritage listed on 2 sides and if you’re familiar with the council there’s no way they will remove those 2 listing)

the only option left (which im aware venue management dont want to do) is put back in the 5000 temporary seats that they used for the sydney olympics – its a shame as it would give hindmarsh that ‘bowl’ type of feel

the old girl had 50+ million put into her last year, like i said earlier there’s literally not much else you can do to upgrade the best football specific ground in australia

Football in Australia must never stop fighting for its fair share of funding

australian football fans need to be sold on the selection policy though when it comes to international football – this is where australia has gone wrong for years with multiple coaches

like i always say no other international coach (with the exception of southgate – who has been widely hammered by the press and fans) selects players who are not playing weekly for their clubs)

absolutely cannot keep giving out caps to player who quite frankly dont deserve them, its one of the main reasons arnie shouldn’t have been renewed

anyways back to the actual topic

im talking JD purely at the moment (given the circumstances with injuries) long term he will not be viable

farrell may well be the long term heir, but he needs to really concentrate on his attacking output in the next 12-24 months

we all know he can defend well, but as a modern day full back he absolutely must be good going forwards (which he is not currently)

Sydney FC fullback drafted into Socceroos WCQ squad after double injury blow

the whole point of international football is picking the best possible players who are playing weekly and performing for their club side.
doing this eliminates the main criticism from fans/media/pundits aimed at the coach (it would then mean the coach is judged on his actual coaching ability )
joel king is a defensive fulllback (should never be near the socceroos squad based on this alone, as australia should wants attacking full backs not defensive) and to top it all off hes not even playing weekly and is a well known arnie favourite over the years
jack clisby is more deserving of a socceroos call up than king (clisby is not the player i would’ve taken by the way – just using him as a point of reference)
the LB i would’ve taken seems to have been forgotten about – very strange considering he was a favourite of anges time in charge, i the starting LB for his club, plays in a much stronger league than australia and has a higher attacking output
whether his club who are in a relegation battle would’ve released him on such short notice is another story (however it is an international window)
from talking with his father, he has not been contact by officials from the FA for quite some time (it might well be his age, or it could be he has no relationship with arnie)
its probably a more damning indictment of meulensteen who is earning in the high 6 figures and is not doing his job correct as essentially the european liaison to arnie (but this leads into a bigger issue in that the FA have not invested enough money in a proper european scouting setup – 1 man like meulensteen cannot do this properly alone)
heres a hint on who it is: contrary to popular belief, jordan bos is not the best australian left back in belgium

Sydney FC fullback drafted into Socceroos WCQ squad after double injury blow

Laughable selection like usual from arnie

Doesn’t play weekly and knows the coach

Sydney FC fullback drafted into Socceroos WCQ squad after double injury blow

because majority of the squad/s he has chosen over the course of his time in charge have been rubbish thats why. – eg rewarding players by giving them the highest honor (playing for your country) when they’re not playing weekly or have come back from a long-term injury.

the only other coach that does this is gareth southgate who gets slaughtered by the media and fans alike and (rightly so)

arnie cannot keep playing the same players and think things will change, part of the issue is his assistant (Meulensteen) not doing his job when it comes to actually scouting across all of europe (but thats also a problem with the actual scouting network)

name me a position and ill give you some options on who could be viable alternative

Baccus, Rowles net first goals as Socceroos cruise past Lebanon but Arnie sweats on injuries

Yengi: play him in his natural position and a game style that suits his skillset and he could be useful – hes wasted in the current arnie setup

metcalfe/baccus: seen more than enough of both playing in their natural positions for the green and gold, both are glorfied water carriers and are not good enough for this level

taggart: wonderful club striker, terrible international stiker –

scottish brigade (souttar/iredale/burgess/boyle etc) barely playing for there club sides and not of international quality – wouldnt even get in the 4th or 5th teams of the country they were born in

atkinson – under a different coach could prosper

hrustic – wonderful technically, but he is a luxury player – another player in the side has to cover him defensively

cant keep cutting arnie slack over his puzzling selections and woeful playing style

Baccus, Rowles net first goals as Socceroos cruise past Lebanon but Arnie sweats on injuries

arnie is terrible at this level, i dont now why so many people still pander to him.

lebanon had chances and if they had any players of any real level of quality, they may have got something from this match.

you wonder if radulovic was in charge of say a next tier level asian side (iran/iraq/jordan/UAE) let alone an upper tier side (japan/south korea/australia) how well he would do

Baccus, Rowles net first goals as Socceroos cruise past Lebanon but Arnie sweats on injuries

it doesnt have to be the in major/capital city though, especially since the FA is always worried about $$

exclude my football specific argument in relation to Adelaide, look at it from a financial and infrastructure point of view then

you wont find cheaper office spaces in a major australian city than adelaide, let alone the amount of sheer space there is to actually build a facillity minutes from the city (you’re going to have issues building what the FA wants in sydney and melbourne due to that.

the shortsighteness of the FA not willing to look outside syd/melb is costing the sport

'We are homeless': 'Frustrated' Arnie's plea as Socceroos train for crunch WC qualifier on rugby league fields

” I am getting a bit tired of the southern media, and that includes Adelaide, who lack the ability to drop their home-town bias and think broadly and fairly across the game and the country.”

thats not even remotely true and you know it

just because robbie cornthwaite said on tv multiple times on one broadcast that he has ‘adelaide bias’ – in relation to some horrible officiating (which may i add they have been on the of in a lot of games this season) doesnt mean he is constantly like that

outside of myself, he is the only person connected to adelaide united that openly critisizes the club.

a league wise djite, burford, rinaldi always distance themselves from the ‘we’ and ‘i’ talk that other commentators do with clubs theyred asscociated to

if you’re talking football media wise from SA – migliaccio (inparticular) has had a go at veart and the side in press conferences and pagonis has as well (although carefully worded)

if you’re talking overall football media a name everyone knows is vince rugari, hes an adelaide boy but only talks about east coast football

the benefit of establishing the centre in SA over sydney or anywhere else in australia is cost (which we all know the FA worries about)

price up what the FA’s office costs in sydney compared to adelaide – there is no cheaper place than adelaide in australia if you’re looking at establishing offices (its why pelligra has pumped several hundred grand into the city over the past 4-5 years)

'We are homeless': 'Frustrated' Arnie's plea as Socceroos train for crunch WC qualifier on rugby league fields

stop playing in the eastern states its as simple as that, sydney/melbourne should not have a constant lock to always host the mens and womens teams!

hindmarsh stadium is completely free and has the best surface (voted by pundits and players year upon year) that is not shared by another code or used for concerts.

training pitches you say?

service sa stadium has multiple pitches and facilities that would be suitable for both teams.

south australia has long been considered the real ‘home of football’ in this country ever since the 80/90s’s and johnny warren coined that term – its even been mentioned on multiple a league broadcasts this season.

you’re starting to see all the mens australians teams across all age groups now have 30-40% players from south australia in them.

the signs have always pointed towards SA, unfortunately FA only thinks about $$$$ and not an actual legacy.

'We are homeless': 'Frustrated' Arnie's plea as Socceroos train for crunch WC qualifier on rugby league fields

newcastle is a really tough sell, especially at the price the APL wants – its plain and simply not good value for money.

some of the private conversations i had with pappas confirmed a lot of things i didnt have full clarity on in relation to the club.

i was aware of the situation regarding the clubs poor development of youth (which hasnt really improved since he left) but hearing first hand of how things were run (or not run) would make me really concerned if was the parent of a really talented child linked with the club

'Would be a tragedy': Can the Jets find a new owner, or are they about to spiral out of the A-League?
