actually i like that idea

Pumas beat All Blacks for the first time

Exactly! my very first rugby test as a kid was that tie. I still remember that knock on over the scoreline on full time. oh I remember weeping. I can never forget either that infamous late Felipe´s kick that fell short just in the hands of a rival in the final minutes. What a run! I was kept astonished over a week haha

Pumas beat All Blacks for the first time

That was the very first test in the year for them, and the outcome was awesome. That makes me wonder what could have happened if the Pumas were handed a more friendly schedule the past, say, 4 or 5 tournaments. Well rested players proved to be good enough to beat the best side at test level. Remember last match in ARG [july ´19]? That was a close one, but the Pumas/Jaguares were exhausted given the amount of miles travelled during that particular season. [ It wasn’t the only close call: In 2001 ABs sneaked a victory in the last play in Buenos Aires [ARG 20-24 NZ]. In ´85 they survive a late scrum to a historic tie. So, given the right circumstances Pumas were along the previous 29 efforts to the task.] So … should they demand better future fixtures, having now beaten away Boks, Wallabies and now the ABs? (ok, ABs were not beaten at home soil, but the Pumas were certainly the away team. In fact in this tournament argies won’t perform at home)

You are right! There has always been players from other areas than BA, but never in this numbers. 3 or 4 at the most. Tucuman Cordoba and Rosario are in fact stongholds, but were far behind on every aspect. Despite being lesser teams those three were able to down URBA often at provincial torunaments. Today gap is closing in some items, but URBA clubs are still the best in the country.

Mario Ledesma names Argentina's World Cup squad, complete with one shock omission

one thing makes ML´s list unique: 17 out of 31 players are from the likes of Córdoba, Tucuman, Santiago, Rosario, Paraná, Concordia…
This shows the game post 2007 RWC has grown all over the place, no only in BA. Certeainly good news!

Agree. At this point i´m a bit disappointed about LP. Perhaps this long unexpected season was a hardwork they had not been ready for.
I really hope they can survive pool of death. Once in quarter finals anything could happen…

Once again, great article IW! I didn’t know that victory over the ABs

Zimbabwe remembers historic win over All Blacks

SA does it again! My tip: SA by 5.

New Zealand vs South African: Five key match-ups and predictions

AUS should win this one, but its going to be a close matter, though I wouldnt be surprised at all if ARG can overcome jetlag and make it a 5 point win.

Wallabies vs Argentina: Rugby Championship preview and prediction

And what about that draw in BA? That was really sad. They drop the ball as they crossed the line in their last minute scrum. That was the closest escape in NZ – ARG matches, no doubt about that.

Rugby's longest unbeaten runs and spectacular chokes

Great job IW!
You should research and write about SouthAmerica XV (Pumas in disguise) touring and defeating SA in ’84, I think.
There are also great old-time stories about tier 1 squads touring Arg in late 80s an early 90s and losing to provincial sides like Buenos Aires, Tucumán and Cordoba (?)
Another great one is ENG losing to a club (Hugo Porta’s Banco Nacion)

Rugby's longest unbeaten runs and spectacular chokes

If your are an argie you will understand this: in a recent post, when AB squad was announced i read: “todos los negros” instead of “todos de negro” as a traslation for “all blacks”. F### traslator! [For non spanish roarers: it is a wording that in certanin context could be very offensive, racist. Of course it wasnt intended like that, but traslator often makes good things turn very bad]

Super Rugby history worth celebrating. Or I’d have thought so…

I agree. SANZAAR needs to grab the opportunities given to show the rest of the world SR is alive and in good health. Lack of communication is painful. Media coverage of SR is very poor in AU, AR, SA & NZ, being The Roar Rugby365 and La Nación notables exeptions, and that´s the reason I recently joined here.

I can recommend two very interesting sites if you all want to expand your knowledge of the game in this part of the globe: americasrugbynews.com and aplenorugby.com.ar (the latter in spanish). The sport is growing very fast in the americas, USA, URU, BRA are fast lerners and we should see anytime soon their progress in test rugby (i do not expect any upsets in this year RWC though). A pro leage is set to begin in 2020 in South America involving franchises from ARG, URU BRA and CHI; a JaguaresXV franchise is now training for their debut season in Currie Cup later this year; Americas 6N is fantastic, and MLR in the US it´s going to be sooner than later a destination for SR players. So, for the love of the game I invite you all, fellow roarers, to catch up with the sport in the americas, for expanding our views may certanily help boost SR!

What a great game! awesome jags! hope they get theirwell deserved final game at home [go canes!]. The atmosphere in BA was fantastic! Go jags and get it!!

Jaguares hammer Brumbies in Super Rugby semi-final

I like your prediction NV, hope you’re right! it would be awesome not only for argies, but for SR as well.

Nine talking points from the Super Rugby quarter-finals

That’s about right!

Super Rugby team of the week: Quarter-finals

I think the only reallistic option would be a final involving SR and Euro Champions Cup winners, on a neutral venue. One fixture in, say, Sochi, Tokio, Las Vegas, Hong Kong or elsewhere to help develop rugby on tier 2 regions.

Time for a world club championship?

what about home and away fixtures?

Time for a world club championship?

your idea would be awsome… but i can´t see it happening any time soon. Beeing reallistic, only Super Rugby, Top 14, Pro 14, Premier teams would be able to compete at this level right now.
Besides, your idea should take into account the global schedule and players welfare: i´m sure it would be very difficult to fit 4 games into the actual calendar. Perhaps a second division could work, involving Japan Top League, MLR, Russian Premier League and South American Pro League winners: it would only require 2 games per team in each division: semi finals, gold medal final, and bronze medal final.

Time for a world club championship?

it´s gonna be a close game

Brumbies find form to thrash Sharks, book semi spot

Nope. It wasnt as bad as it was globally informed. Light went off for about 5 hours. Thankfully i have a generator at home!

The Wrap: Only one Australian finalist a poor Super Rugby return

Jajajja good one

Super Rugby finals Week 1 fixtures: Who plays who, where and when?

Jajaja. I tend to agree on your comments about the game. I also agree on “self induced chaos”. I live in arg, so i know.

The Wrap: Only one Australian finalist a poor Super Rugby return

yes, of course, that is part of argie character as well. But argies deal with it very often, so are used to face this kind of things, thus each turmoil become less and less important and is taken as a natural thing, that doesnt affect that much their game.

The Wrap: Only one Australian finalist a poor Super Rugby return

that´s about right pablo!
