How are the bats a different size? They have had their width restricted to 4.25” for some time now and there are other restrictions as well. I can believe that improved technology has resulted in a bigger sweet spot. How does the weight of the modern bat compare with formerly? They were considering using bamboo in the handle but that has been outlawed — bamboo is grass, not wood.

Mad Max blockbuster: The record-breaking numbers behind unprecedented knock for the ages

If you knew one of your players was going to be heavily relied on to bat in oppressive conditions I don’t think you would ask them to bowl 10 overs. Have you seen some of the shots played without using his feet before? Could they be played against top line bowlers? Would bowlers have to come up with alternative strategies?

‘Greatest ODI innings ever’: Does Maxi's Mumbai miracle beat Kapil, Viv, Sachin, Gilchrist for best knocks in cricket history?

Could some of those shots he played be played with a smaller bat? Different times. A number of the shots Maxwell played appear to have been played at the top level for the first time. Note in his interview that he was very careful with Afghanistan’s only world class bowler. Maxwell is a very good analyst of his own game and could make a great coach. Another point is that he also bowled 10 overs.

Trading picks to the extent Port have will have consequences in 4 or 5 years time. Success is essential over the next 2 or 3 years.

'Sold part of their future to tread water': Power failure leaves Port in the dark post-trade period

Pick 3 for McKay is a win in the long run. Perhaps they should split it and trade for established players. Mind you a midfielder at pick 3 is likely to see good game time in 2024 but won’t replace a big back.

AFL mid-Trade Period state of play: Every move, who's still on the table, and how each big trade gets done

A good analysis of Essendon’s situation. Supporters should be pleased with the players coming in so far and the virtual swap of BZT for Duursma would be icing on the cake. I hope Ratugolea gets to Port, that will be wins for both the player and Port, I think Port’s offer is fair but Geelong feel they have Port over a barrel. It is important for both Ratugolea and Port that this deal gets done.

I am sure Essendon are happy with Dr@pr and Bryan, the former would be on more than Mason, he has had an operation on his groin hence the recruitment of Goldstein for backup. Clubs spend more of their salary cap in different areas. Mason has been good value for Collingwood. There are factors to be taken into account other than their direct contribution to football as well. I expect Goldstein to be a mentor for Bryan and Dr@pr.

'USA! USA! USA!': The premiership-winning journey of Mason Cox is doing more than just charming the Americans

Rucks take longer to develop but often I believe it would be possible for them to play into their late 30s. I was surprised Andrew Phillips retired, I assume even depth rucks would be on something like $300k p.a. which would be hard to match in industry. He was great value at Essendon.

'USA! USA! USA!': The premiership-winning journey of Mason Cox is doing more than just charming the Americans

Mason has been OK, he is a showman and gets the best out of himself. There has been uninformed criticism from some supporters who seem to think he is on a million dollars a year. It takes all types to build a good footy team. There is no reason why he can’t continue to play at AFL level for years.

The umpire has a fraction of a second to make a ruling. Perhaps each team could have a remote decision maker where their view ceases immediately the free is called, and it must be guaranteed that they have no further information. They then have to make a decision to either accept the free or take the advantage. You can be sure that there will be occasions where a goal will be disallowed because the free has been taken. There have been too many occasions in season where a team has received a benefit because playing on hasn’t turned out to be an advantage and the free has been given.

COMMENT: THAT advantage call wasn't a shocker - the rule is just completely broken, and the fix is simple

What I don’t like to see is advantage appearing to have been taken and then being overruled if it hasn’t turned out to be advantage — heads I win, tails you lose. Some of the commentary was based on this scenario which happens regularly during the season. I was barracking for Brisbane but Collingwood were worthy winners, they are incredibly disciplined. What a goal by Sidebottom, and it was no fluke!

Did you watch what F@gn had to say about McStay? My other favourite coach is Hinkley — “what would you do with Port a few points down with 2 minutes to go?” — “Go Port!”

After years of blowouts and shockers, do we finally have an AFL Grand Final worth watching?

I am hoping for a good game, Daniher is a confidence player and I hope he gets off to a good start. There will be many neutral supporters leaning towards Brisbane because coach F@gn is such a nice guy.

Cox is a showman as well. Good to see his family from the US in the crowd.

Finals Fix: The Pies were down and out in the prelim. How they turned it around is the stuff of greatness

I thought Cox earned his spot, he did some nice things but he could never be ignored and that is hard to quantify in statistics. I like the guy as well.

Here’s your chance!

Why every team will win their AFL preliminary final... and why they'll lose

Could Carlton have a second lucky win?

Why every team will win their AFL preliminary final... and why they'll lose

You wouldn’t want to be counting on Daniher in a Preliminary Final or the GF. He is a confidence player and good front runner. Does he know himself in advance what he would do in a particular situation kicking for goal? He has never sorted that out. It is to his advantage that he can now play in the ruck.

AFL News: Greene's message for GWS critics, Bombers unveil succession plan, Cripps targets revenge, Brown backflips on Lions

I don’t think the Giants are complaining, after defeating Collingwood they will have 8 days to prepare for the GF whereas Brisbane/Carlton will have 7 days. This won’t be good for Carlton if they win with the travelling.

Finals Fix: They just pumped Port - and here's why the Giants might be Collingwood's worst nightmare too

After the Giants thrashed Essendon everyone said Essendon were hopeless. That might have been true on the day, but the Giants were brilliant. The 50/1 for the Premiership is now 5/1. I believe this will be the game of the final series.

Finals Fix: They just pumped Port - and here's why the Giants might be Collingwood's worst nightmare too

7 + 4 = 10 in this case, otherwise we are double counting.

COMMENT: It's time for the AFL to immortalise Ron Barassi - and only one prize is worthy of his name

I wouldn’t want to be the next player to do that action from now on, in or out of the home and away season.

'Wanted to hit, wanted to hurt': Brayden Maynard - the guilty man found innocent

He had 400 million nanoseconds, plenty of time to turn sideways when he didn’t have to. This would have been a suspension during the home and away season but I can understand the tribunal not wanting to set a precedent in a grey area during the finals. The rules have to be clearer that this action is unacceptable.

'Wanted to hit, wanted to hurt': Brayden Maynard - the guilty man found innocent

Sorry, a shoulder into someone’s head in an aggressive act should result in a suspension. I admit this is a grey area at present but this should and will be cleared up. Acts with a significant chance of resulting in concussions have to be prevented as much as possible. I am sure this would have resulted in a suspension in a home and away season, it would have been harsh to apply for the first time in the finals. I hope Brayshaw is able to play if Melbourne make the Preliminary Final, more importantly I hope the concussions he has had will have no lasting effects on his life.

COMMENT: The Tribunal are right - Brayden Maynard's act wasn't illegal... but from now on, it should be

I agree with the article. The tribunal was understandably reluctant to set a precedent during the finals series but such actions have to be outlawed in the future.
