Exactly, less then no coverage is still no coverage from the MSM 😁

Cracking Australia Cup Final was a reminder of just how good Australian football can be

I consider it a proper cup competition and couldn’t be happier that Sydney have won it, but more importantly have earned a spot in next seasons AFC Cup. Just look at Central Coast and Macurther smashing opponents, who can’t get excited about that.

Whether it is played before or during the season has its pros and cons, but it’s still the same cup comp. And if we want the NPL teams to be competitive then for the most part it needs to be played late in their seasons.

Pretty much nailed it.
There’s no short-term fix for RA, but I feel they’re unwilling to fix it in the long-term either

Don’t worry, Wallabies: the NRL is here to save you from yourselves

While I really wouldn’t want to see the Saudi PIF take ownership of an A League club, it would be a tidy link if it was Newcastle Jets.
Would be great to see that club never have to resort to looking for spare change under the couch again.

Will new-look City's lack of service impact Jamie Maclaren in 2023-24?

I give it 3 months before Kisnorbo is sacked in France and comes back to take him old job off Rado who is out of his depth as a head coach. I get the feel Rado is a much better no.2 man on the sideline

Will new-look City's lack of service impact Jamie Maclaren in 2023-24?

Maclaren is without doubt a great domestic no.9 and excels when he gets service because he’s very proficient in front of goal, but he’s not good at creating something for himself.
City is renowned for great recruitment, so time will tell how the players around him perform and service him up front.
But I for one hope they fall back to even up the competition.

What a great article

Same money but arguably a better deal for the govt with supports from more teams wanting to come stay and spend in NSW

A-League Grand Final u-turn on the cards with potential Magic Round as Sydney replacement

I would assume the money is a per year deal rather than all money upfront, so either the APL could make that money bank, or have a Magic Round which would arguably be more successful for the govt than a Sydney based final

A-League Grand Final u-turn on the cards with potential Magic Round as Sydney replacement

A magic round makes so much more sense as you could easily host all the games between CommBank and Allianz over the space of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Also why when I read about the deal with the NSW Govt it’s a different figure. Here’s it’s $20, whereas others time’s I’ve heard both $12m and $15m

Just regarding the gate receipts, FIFA being the organiser take all the ticket sales and hospitality revenue from matches.

It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

If they hadn’t hosted games in Dunedin, Waikato or something larger than AAMI Park then this WC would’ve smashed the record set by China in 2007 of ~32k per game, although their was set playing much less total games. Although with 4 games being played in Homebush (x2), Eden Park and Brisbane we’re likely to finish somewhere close to 30-31k average crowds which is remarkable.

We’ve easily smashed the total attendance record set in Canada 2015.

The Women's World Cup shows Australia’s love of football and our maturity as a nation

Certainly 80k would be a waste, but replacing the gorgeous roof and increasing AAMI Park’s capacity to 50k would be worthwhile.
They have 4 full-time tenants, who in good times I would argue Victory and Storm would warrant an increased capacity. But for all 4 should a home final be hosted they’d utilise a bigger stadium.

Matildas smash ratings records with quarter-final triumph - and there's more to come

The women’s cricket T20 world cup in 2019 had generally pathetic crowds, apart from the final at the MCG which cracked ~90k.
So yeah while Australian’s might love big events, this WWC is an outlier.

'I’ll be supporting whoever plays against Australia': Are people engaging with the Women’s World Cup, or just along for the ride?

Or on the flip side if Ch.7 properly valued the tournament at the time of bidding (or any other FTA network for that matter), they could’ve purchased the full rights and then on sold some matches to a subscription services (Optus, Stan, Paramount, etc).

Anyway I haven’t watched a minute of Ch.7, and it’s got nothing to do with them being the big bad guys, it’s that Optus allows me to watch a game whenever I like, pause, rewind, delayed start, etc.

Remember for anyone with a daughter under 16 to register for their Liberty A League Pass, which allows free entry to all games.

I think if you weren’t interested it would be quite easy to not watch a single minute of the WC, considering Ch.7 only acquired 13 games with the remainder is on Optus.
I know my Dad mentioned over the weekend “I can’t wait until it’s all over” (Dad), “what?” (me), “the soccer, the Matilda ladies” (Dad), “Hahah, c’mon it’s been great!” (me).
He’s a classic Ch.7 watching boomer BTW.

Interesting that Morocco has contributed the teams success down to King Mohommed’s encouragement, not of course the effort and skills of the women on the pitch.
Says a lot…

Dear Tony Gustavsson: are the Matildas succeeding thanks to you, or in spite of you?

A coach’s objective is to make the team better than the sum of its parts.
Frankly I don’t think Gustavsson achieves that. I hope he gets the team far in this WC, but after I think it’s thanks and good luck in a future role, not looking after the Matildas.

Getting to the juicy end now.
It’s likely that Germany will finish 2nd in their group and have to play against France. That means if Australia beat Denmark we’ll come up against the winner of that match.
I reckon Sweden is going to knock out USA in their match, will be plenty of support for that result I suspect

World Cup Diary: Coach accused of 'sexual misconduct', world No.2 KOed at group stage

But nothing in that quote implies she is indigenous.
I was born in Australia but that doesn’t make me indigenous.

The Matildas can make history in the biggest game we've seen in years

I knew the way that Canada plays would be more beneficial to Australia compared to the tight defensive units of Nigeria and to a lesser extent Ireland.
We didn’t need the majority of possession, but we relished the space and didn’t have to rely on aimless crossess and long balls because there was ample space, provided we could beat their early press and get into their half.

I reckon a lot of people assume Kerr is indigenous, but she’s not.

Not sure what the point of the ‘proud indigenous’ inclusions are here Para?

The Matildas can make history in the biggest game we've seen in years

I don’t think FIFA’s restrictions have anything to do with that, it’s to ensure the pitch is pristine and the interior of the stadium is setup in all the World Cup ‘colours’.
The pitches have looked great because of the lack of traffic and no faded lines from other codes. The very obvious 50 metre and centre circle at the MCG on Saturday night, but even worse was the huge painted eToro on the pitch, that’ll probably still be evident for this weekends round of AFl games!
