There is no denying it, Cook is a great batsman and I believe he’ll be one of the all time great batsman. However his captaincy is letting him down. If I were Cook, I would resign and just focus on my batting.
Warne attacks Cook again
I think you’re being a bit too harsh on young Nathan. On the last day of the 2013/14 Ashes series, before the tail went crazy, he was bowling unbelievably well.
Lyon has to be probably one of the underrated cricketers on the 21st century. He has taken 100 odd test wickets without many people even really noticing.
How strong is Australia's grasp on the top spot?
He would, but at what cost? An unhappy dressing room? There are eleven players in the team and in order to win, they must all be happy. Cricket’s a team game and if one player doesn’t like what’s happening then he needs to go.
Where now for England cricket?
It’s about time!
Finally miss hits won’t be rewarded in 6’s.
Bigger boundaries are coming for international cricket
He made himself look like a complete idiot when he went down holding onto his teeth. He deserves to be banned from this world cup at least.
Suarez saga: overdone or undercooked?
Call me crazy but I prefer the Commonwealth games to the Olympics. It never gets boring watching Australia dominate in sports.
Have the Commonwealth Games become irrelevant?
I sometimes still can’t believe at how quickly it has all changed. About this time last year everyone was calling us the next West Indies. Now we are apparently unbeatable! What I’ve learn’t from this experience is simple, enjoy it while it lasts. So don’t go onto the English Cricket Facebook page and comment about how great your team is because remember how quickly it can all change. The 2015 Ashes series could be the one where we completely lose it just like England did. They came to Australia cocky calling for a 5 nil whitewash with no problems within their team. Instead they left with their coach resigning, their spinner quitting mid series and much more.
P.S – I love the comment you made about England’s World Cup squad being like a “bad-tempered grandmother attending a teenage rave”. Good article mate.
Where now for England cricket?
Just like nobody cares about the 4th of July outside of the USA.
Australia Day cricket at the SCG? It's just wrong
I agree with you John, It’s terrible.
Why move the Oz day match away from a fantastic looking Adelaide oval that has just had a huge redevelopment. I really can’t believe it. But hopefully, just like the WACA test match and the Adelaide Oz Day match, let’s just hope it’s just a temporary move not a permanent one.
Australia Day cricket at the SCG? It's just wrong
This for me ranks right up there as one of the most enjoyable articles I’ve read on the roar.
It’s sad but true. The pressure that players are under in the professional era is enormous and that is undoubtably the reason behind cheating in sports.
Cheating is simply a part of sport
Yes I would love Agar to be in the team as much as anyone. Although I’m a big fan of Nathan Lyon and believe that he’ll be our spinner for at least the next 5 years. On a side note, Although the media was talking about how Ashton Agar was having the season from hell, it’s very interesting to see that he still took 21 shield wickets meaning that he was third on the Warriors list of wicket takers for season 13/14. That was only bettered by Jason Behrendorff (40) and Michael Hogan (36).
He’ll be back next season better than ever.
The future looks bright for Australian cricket: Take 2
I agree, NZ will be a very competitive cricketing nation again in the next few years. Just a quick question trev. Do you reckon that Dean Brownlie will be playing for the blackcaps again this year? I only say this because a friend of mine is related to him and it made talking about the test series between Australia and NZ a bit more interesting.
The future looks bright for Australian cricket: Take 2
Couldn’t agree with you more Brendan.
Ashton Agar is the player I’m backing to be back better than ever. Due to traveling, I don’t get to see WA play there Shield games. But I was watching the SS final through CA’s free live stream, and Agar was really getting the ball to move. A big difference from the two test he played a year ago. A lot of people are already writing him off which I think is really silly, at the age of 20 he has show he can already bat and is improving with the ball. He could turn out to be Australia’s number six in your line up for the 2020 Ashes.
Australia has one of the best bowling attacks in the world.
A lot of young batsmen are going well in the Sheffield Shield and the once empty pool of spinners is overflowing with talent.
The future looks bright for Australian cricket: Take 2
I reckon that Whiteman should get a game or two in the world cup next year. So that when Haddin retires, Whiteman won’t take forever to find his feet in the international game.
The future looks bright for Australian cricket: Take 2
Technically Pietersen has retired from international cricket.
I agree with you on Cook being captain, great opener but terrible captain. If he would step down it would be not only good for the team, but for himself too so he would be able to focus on his batting and return to form.
England cricket’s tentative rebuilding process
Every series is important, I admire Clarke who takes even the lightest and easiest of games seriously. Good on ya Clarkey do Australia proud!
Zimbabwe ODIs are crucial to Clarke
Nice read Shanebrien,
I quite like Gary Kirsten’s way of coaching. I’ve only ever seen highlights from his playing days, his innings against the UAE in the 1996 world cup when he scored 188 not out was an amazing display of one day batting. Unfortunately for Gary, it was against a minnow cricketing nation and isn’t talked about to often.
Personal mastery the secret of sporting success
Only time will tell. It’s sad to see match fixing in IPL matches. I thought that betting in India was illegal.
ICC are heading in a concerning direction
Another great piece Kazblah. Looking forward to your next article.
Harry Potter and the unseen game of rugby
Still, a very interesting read.
Thanks Anastasia
Sportswomen shattering the stereotypes around sexuality
I agree with you Dizzy. But good news, I’ve heard Johnson will still be working with Lillee.
Johnson shows the evolution of temperament and technique
Congratulation Chris Gayle, although I’ll probably remember him more for his big hits in the IPL than his test records.
Also Kersi, Alastair Cook, he’s only 29 and has already played 102 tests. Do you think he can go on and break Sachin’s record?
How will Chris Gayle fare in his 100th Test?
Still can’t understand how you’re still a guru biltonbek. Surely you’ve been asked to become a roar expert by now.
