Well said Geoff. That 40% figure everyone has been quoting was investigated by Media Watch a few weeks ago. And, as you said, is an estimation based on problem gamblers only.

Phil Gould's argument nothing but a sham

I think Badds is probably our best chance this week. I wonder whether Allenby has too many demons at the hands of the Augusta greens.

Australia's golfers just can't win majors

Woods will win again. Perhaps not this week but he’ll win a few more majors but maybe not enough to break Jack’s record.
As for the Aussies, yes Ogilvy should do well once again and maybe Allenby. I’m not sure the others (including Brendan Jones who has Phil first up) will go very deep into the week. Let’s hope they do!

An out of form Tiger Woods has finally run his race

I agree. The Giants will be perfectly fine in the long term but many people (loud ones at that) won’t give them any credit until a premiership is taken. Even then I think it won’t please many.
I’ve always wished this was less about AFL v the other codes. Let’s just embrace them all like they do in the US (larger population I know). The Giants will do well, the NRL will also do very well and football will thrive as well. Let’s get on with it.

Why the GWS Giants will be a raging success

Yeah, it is the Main Event (pay per view channel) but it is never pay per view when the AFL is on Friday nights and other times AFL is on during the weekend.

It does yes but it’s broadcast on channel 518 each Friday. It’s not obvious but most followers know it now. You may even a find pubs that are aware and willing to put it on.

After moving from Adelaide to Sydney in 2004, I was appalled at the lack of AFL coverage in this city. Fast forward a 6 years and the coverage is possibly the best in Australia. Usually you can get access to 7 of the 8 games each weekend live. Not all of it is on the prime networks mind you but you can find it.

Things went awry come finals last year when the laws seemed to change and only a handful of finals were shown live but it’s a huge leap from where the coverage was.

Now all this city needs is some decent (any!) drive time sports radio every weekday.

Well written, love it!

As a career scientist and a sports nut I can relate to this debate.

Love the “Milo or Pythagoras” link!
Here is where Science helped the sportsman out and vice versa!

The Sportsman or the Scientist?

Sorry mate. I thought the gag may have made it worthwhile!

Williams should caddie for Michael Campbell

That’s true Phil. He’s just taking a extended holiday while Tiger gets himself together. Just a fun thought to have him help out Cambo though!

It will be all about Tiger’s golf from now on. It’s going to be incredibly interesting when he returns.

Williams should caddie for Michael Campbell

It was all a bit tongue in cheek including the joke. Maybe the gag wasn’t that good?!

Williams is out of work, Campbell is struggling. The kids need to focus on someone else other than Tiger and Williams hasn’t been implicated at all so far as we know. That sort of thing.

Williams should caddie for Michael Campbell

It is going to be very interesting to see how golf goes after this crisis. I get the feeling it may be just fine and “publicity” may work out ok for the game. As for another $3million, I dunno…there will be many more arguments against that now!

The Aussies are looking good and I know what you mean “Chop”, there is a chance it could be a false dawn but I just have a good feeling about this.

Australian golf's recession is over

It was a disaster. It has greater effect on potential international players coming down for the event than we realise. I don’t think the public (apart from those there on Friday) are too bothered about it but if we want some big name sin future coming down for our oldest event, this stuff doesn’t help. Geoff Ogilvy was still fuming about it on Saturday.

Players fume at amateur set-up for Open greens

I wondered if the big crowd had anything to do with the sort of team they are now presented with.

I think this Crows team is the most exciting one they’ve ever had. I’m not so sure they will beat Collingwood but they do looks good for years to come.

How far can the Adelaide Crows go?

So it turns out Channel 9 did show the golf live last night! How weird?! I flicked over around midnight and there it was!?!

Channel Nine 'Still the One' for ruining sports coverage

Absolutely. Well said. It’s a disgrace and I think your suspicion may be correct.

Who are the “rights” actually bought from?

Perhaps in future, whoever is selling the British Open rights should make sure the buyer shows the event live.

Channel Nine 'Still the One' for ruining sports coverage

Yeah thanks Benjamin for the link. So great to see him shoot well this morning despite a few nervous tee shots once again. Let’s hope he makes the cut. My IBF link morphed into a video quizzing pro’s on the art of “The Ian Baker-Finch shot”. Not a hook out-of-bounds but a shot out of the water.

Baker-Finch and that infamous tee shot

Well said Spiro. It was a fantastic article indeed.

Despite the powers that be at Augusta still having some rules leftover from the 1920’s it has rarely done much wrong in running the US Masters.

I would love to see them go out on a limb and ensure everyone must use the same ball. A smaller one that doesn’t go as far.

The master Peter Thomson on the Masters

Unexpected indeed. Great win and some young guns to keep a very close eye on this year.

Crows have a win to remember

And don’t they love to show the scoreboard in the Masters coverage! More golf, less scoreboard and less piano please.
