Pretty average at most sports, but love them none the less

The most unlikely option would be to drop Maxwell and replace with Stoinis. Then you have three seamers and two spinners. Unlikely- but one that Lehmann, Smith and selectors would possibly enjoy mulling over for longer than necessary

Toothless Lyon in serious strife ahead of fourth Test

“No, apparently it was some kind of custom raisins.

Which also explains his unstoppable runs later in the day.”

Almost had me in tears!

The Liebke Ratings: New Zealand vs Australia first ODI

He’s trying to convince 9 that the next test series needs a reality TV segment… “I’m a celebrity commentator, get me out of here”… Marlon Samuels is the first signing.

REPORTS: Shane Warne hasn't been in the news for nearly two weeks

According to Maxwell it’s another part of the Wade conspiracy… The state captain bats at 6 and gets to keep the gloves ?

Could Peter Handscomb fix Australia's wicketkeeping woes?

Nope, haven’t seen it but will see if google can help me out.

Yip, House of Pain definitely showed no kindness to visiting teams. FB also kinder on the handling on cold-wet nights – but that might just help the AB’s “blow” teams away by more anyway

Could one little step make Quade a shoe-in at 10?

Keep him kicking – it could just be your retirement plan =)
Otherwise, buy him golf clubs =)

So much talent. If all three were around, Cooper’s possibly wouldn’t need to be a place-kicking flyhalf either.

Could one little step make Quade a shoe-in at 10?

He’s a good age – will be interesting to see how the new look Reds go this year. Also has the national skipper in Queensland now which could help his cause.

Thanks KP

Could one little step make Quade a shoe-in at 10?

Probably makes it hard for the future New Zealand kickers who model themselves on this. Mehrtens also seemed to skip up and knock them over from the corners with a howling cross-wind- where you’d think in practice other kickers might crack those 1 in 20.

Could one little step make Quade a shoe-in at 10?

Yip, it’s good for that inside ball where the defense drifts with him, especially where he can throw a longer inside ball. But he does seem to need to mix it up and straighten more often that the defence can’t just go into automatic drift mode with a flank covering the inside pass

Could one little step make Quade a shoe-in at 10?

Haha, had to google it =) Guess you could say that Cheika is using the “stereotyping and educated guess” approach in differentiating the error rate of the two then =)

Foley tucks in his shirt and pulls up his socks, thus creating an impression before even touching the ball.

As for distance, Percy didn’t take the long ones but they had Frans Steyn then. Don’t know Percy’s stats but he didn’t seem to miss many close ones which is what you are saying should apply to Foley too- comparing apples to apples.

Have a sneaky feeling the first weekend will feel like the more things change, the more they stay the same for many of the teams

Finding the method in Michael Cheika's kicking-game madness

Hi Boz, sorry for the late reply.
Think Cooper and Folau could make a great flyhalf-winger combo along the lines of the Cooper-Ioane (Cooper was my brother-in-laws favourite player back then).
Have something in mind for a short Cooper piece to jump ahead of Foley but will need to do a bit of late night reading first ☺
As for Kerevi at 12, I grew up in South Africa so definitely have no issue with a big, hard running 12- but it doesn’t seem to be Cheika’s preference.

Wing could be good… if you bring him Cooper I’d imagine they’d also be good at set piece time with Folau coming off his wing for inside balls etc.
But surely they can still do all of this (high balls included) with him at fullback

Sorry about that. I’m the accountant that needs a calculator to add 2 + 2.
I’d like to think that moments like holding the ball with an overlap would play on a players mind and will change the approach in those situations in the future.
Besides his possible improvement, the coaches can improve how they use him. He’s been taking so much ball that defenses have adjusted and it seems time to start using him more as a dummy runner… what’s the use of a dummy runner defenses don’t believe will get the ball.

I think South Africa were also unhappy about the same thing when there was a slow turner against India at Kingsmead, Durban, in a 2 match series. Think it was Kallis’ last match and a painfully slow but ultimately match winning hundred, even by Kallis standards

Virat Kohli is clearly the best batsman in the world

I reckon his South Africa average is a very small sample. 2 tests, 1 at Kingsmead (spinning wicket) and 1 at Wanderers (usually quick). 2 good knocks at Wanderers with an average of over 100 but that’s the match where SA should have chased the world record 4th innings but locked down the hatches when FAF was run out for 134. Ended the day on 7-450 chasing 458, 4 hundreds in the match.
His first innings 100 is telling though.

Yes, had considered Brussow in the initial version where if you don’t have Bismarck you’d think it would only make sense to have a Brussow.
Fat chance of Etsebeth being ruled out (at least I hope not)

Which players could have made a difference for their countries under the 'Giteau Law'

It is what it is… a bit of nonsense on a Wednesday morning.
I wouldn’t fall off my chair in complete shock to see him in a Protea 2018 T20 world cup squad though… desperate times in terms of world cup crashes

The KP coup theory

Clarke’s already got the book deal lined up for his comeback story

The KP coup theory

Maybe Murali as a player-coach next time too?
Would GOAT be able to keep his place against the real GOAT?
Some would argue it should be GCOAT (silent C for chucker)

The KP coup theory

Agreed, of his 247 wickets, 180 were in India, 17 in West Indies and 21 in Sri Lanka. Definitely needs to prove his away game is up with the greats. His batting average is also boosted by his India and West Indies (4 innings, 2 hundreds) record.

Is Ravi Ashwin the next great all-rounder?

John Eales has kicking boots on… I’d have the bench 10 and 15 starting with David’s starters as super subs. Otherwise you’ll loose the first half arm-wrestle/ arial game

Michael Cheika's the best man for the job - by the length of the straight

I don’t think Carter would be on my list either but not for his skills.
Along with Jean DV he was the unluckiest world cup player and it seemed that was what drove him. He could be pretty ordinary in later years, working back from injury, but peaked properly in 2015 when it mattered. Now that he’s done that what would be his drive? Hence he’s retired ☺
But this is a what if piece and I am neither a psychologist nore an elite sportsman, so who knows
