Smallest Bronco kicks Cowboys into oblivion as Reynolds stands tall with bamboozling brilliance

Reyno looks pretty good in the throwback kit, I gotta say…

Smallest Bronco kicks Cowboys into oblivion as Reynolds stands tall with bamboozling brilliance

“Say the Titans have Jayden Campbell. So we’re saying they can sit him on the extended bench and if they are down by 20, they throw him in the game, if they are up by 6, they throw on a defensive player?”

Yeah, but, your team can do that too. Going to your bench for what you need is what the bench is there for. If they throw a player like that on late in the game, it’s no different to if they were in the 17 now. They’re still taking up one of the four spots of players who can come on and still using an interchange to get on. If they dont come on, it’s the equivalent of not playing. I’d say instead of 21, leave it as the 19 man game day squad we’ve got now. The only difference is instead of cutting it to 17 just before kickoff, the coach does it during the game. I’ve been in favour of this for a while now.

NRL can reduce concussion headache by expanding the number of interchange players - with a retro twist

Nah, I say lean into it. Not only is it rugby, it’s the better rugby! We just gotta sell it over there. “That other rugby? That’s like Canadian Football, you don’t want Canadian football!”

Rugby league needs a new name but what can you call it to stand out in football’s confusingly crowded landscape of codes?

Heat of the moment is no excuse. It means you lost control of the ability to say what you try to avoid saying because you know you’d get in trouble, but if you’d never say it, it’d never slip out. What you’re saying is that you actively try to avoid being a racist to people’s face, but in that moment you weren’t able to hide it…

‘Fun and games, banter’: Leniu response to racial allegation beggars belief as ‘heat of the battle’ mentality harms NRL yet again

It could be a super bowl-like event, a meeting between two championship teams, but you can’t build it up without devaluing the grand finals in both leagues because they’re no longer “the big game at the end”, there’d be one more. That’s why nobody wants to take it seriously.

It’s happened to the state leagues, winning the QLD/NSW cup now doesn’t mean much if you don’t back it up a week later and beat the other state league on grand final day. It turns the grand finals into glorified conference championships, nobody wants that.

The SL teams do have a pretty good record against the NRL teams, but that would evaporate if the NRL started taking it seriously, they’d stop having the games in conditions that favour the English so much. They’d no longer allow it to be a preseason game in the north of England against a team from there who’s season is already underway, so when that changes and the NRL starts to dominate more, interest in it will go back down…

The NRL is sleeping on the World Club Challenge - it could be one of their most profitable products

Penrith’s last two grand final opponents didn’t even make the finals this year. The parallels to 2015 for the Broncos are scary and could be a bad sign for the future. They were still good for next few years after that but they never got back there, it’s possible to peak too early. Even if your premiership window is still open, ever year it’s back to square one in round one and having to do it all again is very hard…

Cleary's immortal display inspires Panthers to pull off record comeback win for three-peat and break Broncos hearts

I’m sure sitting on the bench while his team made the big comeback without him is going to do his contract offers plenty of favours, especially from Penrith themselves…

‘The resume speaks for itself': Luai on the hate, the injury, the faith and why the Panthers are the best of the NRL era

That’s what a lot of people would like you think, but the NRL is separated from what came before it by being a merger of the ARL and the Super League. Basically, old teams, new comp.

‘The resume speaks for itself': Luai on the hate, the injury, the faith and why the Panthers are the best of the NRL era

Applying the, you know, rules isn’t nitpicking, it’s their job, and saying so isn’t a whinge. It’s up to the players to let the game flow, not the referees…

Cleary's immortal display inspires Panthers to pull off record comeback win for three-peat and break Broncos hearts

All this talk of how you have to lose one before you can win one doesn’t sit right. The Storm/Roosters/Panthers multiple grand final appearances are masking the fact that grand finals are just too damn hard to make to waste your opportunity when you get there, I think the Broncos did that tonight. They’ll be pretty good next year, probably go deep in the finals, but there’s no guarantee they’ll be back next year like some are saying. Even half way through 2016 it looked like a Broncos-Cowboys grand final rematch was on the cards but neither of them made it…

Cleary's immortal display inspires Panthers to pull off record comeback win for three-peat and break Broncos hearts

There’s a lot of shame in losing that one. It was one of the biggest comebacks in grand final history, which means it’s one of the worst collapses in grand final history. Shameful.

The way last year ended for the Broncos absolutely sucked. Now I miss it…

This is one of the greatest seasons the Broncos have had in the last 20 or so years, and they still found a way to be absolutely awful at the end of it…

I can never get behind that line of thinking. Deliberately ignoring clear penalties in the interest of the flow of the game is the opposite of good refereeing to me…

'Some people out there are quite jealous of Reece': Walters defends Walsh after fullback filmed lashing out at fan

It really is set up to be a great game, it’ll basically come down to who makes the least errors, both of these sides are primed to capitalise on any mistakes.

NRL News: Grand Final forecast has NRL sweating, Sims to Dragons with epic reveal

No one said he did, I was just pointing out that Penrith haven’t had to handle both of them at the same time, for example, focusing on one and leaving the other open. And considering Brisbane beat Penrith without Walsh, handling him like you say might not be the key to victory that you think it is…

No no no, the Broncos sacked Siebold and hired Walters and look at them now, obviously the answer is just to sack the coach one more time until you find the right one…..

ANALYSIS: Walsh puts Panthers on notice as Broncos crush Warriors to deliver first Grand Final since 2015

This is what you recently accused me of doing, replying to my comment just to attack me, because if you were serious about debate and discussion, you would have followed along with what was being said and not be, once again, completely wrong. No wonder I think it’s a good idea? It’s not my idea. Rellum brought up the idea of the NRL not letting teams with inadequately sized stadiums stay in the league, all I did was highlight which exact teams would be affected and what they could do about it, not that I want it to happen. You should know that already, you’re the one who keeps bringing up the article I wrote. Surely you remember the part where I quite clearly state that forcing all the teams into the same few stadiums like the AFL is not what I want to happen? That’d I’d rather their suburban grounds be upgraded to be better? Even now, the thing I’ve been arguing with you about for days now, if teams want to stay in their suburban ground, it’s fine with me, they just need to accept that they can’t play certain finals matches there as a consequence.

NRL Prelim Finals midweek talking points: Why do clubs keep thinking so small with stadium stupidity?

Look who’s back, the person who doesn’t know what a hypocrite is or able to grasp the concept of home grounds. It appears to be you that seems to see things only in black and white. You’re the one with the black and white opinion that where a club started is their only home ground and always will be, when the reality that I’m talking about is more complex, has more shades to it. Let’s compare it to our homes. For people, we’ve got childhood homes, adult homes, people that own multiple homes, holiday homes, even retirement homes. It’s the same for clubs. We’ve got the homes where they started, homes where they might have had to relocate to during a pandemic, homes where they are now because they’ve outgrown their childhood homes. I’d love to buy my childhood home, maybe even move back there, at least spend some time there, obviously some clubs would love to do that too, but it changes nothing about their current home until they do. I don’t think you’re an everyday punter, they have a better grasp of these things…
