Let’s see if there is an upward trend in shield batting averages this season.

Dukes unhappy with Sheffield Shield snub

Apparently that was Bradman’s opinion of Tendulkar as the player who’s batting most resembled his own.

"We're gone, mate": Inter-generational ecstasy and agony as an Australian cricket fan

He could sniff out a party anywhere in the world. 😊

The not-quite-the-best Australian XI

Yep, he only averaged 56.5! Only Sutcliffe and Hammond outscored him and needed an extra innings each to do it. Strike rate of 75!

On the trail of Douglas Jardine

I look forward to reading your contribution.

On the trail of Douglas Jardine

A good read thanks PHewitt, it will remain in memory for it’s competitiveness and drama. Warne all but carried the Aussies and I don’t think anyone should be allowed to warm up with footy or soccer after what happened to McGrath! Would we have won had he remained fit? Possibly. England had put together a great attack but the use of mints on the ball will always cloud their efforts in my mind, they were a good crew with excellent discipline and skills and may well have won without the artificial aids. We’ll never know. There’s always got to be a little controversy!

My top five moments of the 2005 Ashes

Could you imagine the withering silence if you were brave enough to suggest bowlers can’t captain to Rchie! 😁

Is Steve Smith Australia's best captain?

I disagree with that Rowdy, plenty of our batsmen captains have had poor tours of countries and kept the job. I disagree that bowlers exertions mean that rules them out of captaincy, as I said some will handle it and likely some won’t. Kumble was an excellent recent captain, but if we have the mindset at state level and below that they are incapable of doing the job then they will never be given the chance. Warne would have been a very good on field captain but dreadful at the rest of it.

Is Steve Smith Australia's best captain?

Lyon would be pleased to hear that.

Is Steve Smith Australia's best captain?

I’m pretty sure Paine called that review which is admitted to in “The Test” so I don’t see how Cummins can get blamed for that. I don’t think he should be captain in that he is more likely to get injured necessitating a captaincy change but am pro bowlers shouldn’t be excluded from captaincy considerations. Just because some bowlers couldn’t handle all the necessary requirements doesn’t mean they all couldn’t.

Is Steve Smith Australia's best captain?

Yeah, never thought of Garner as thin.

Billy Stanlake?

Slim pickings: Test cricket's 'Slender XI'

You’d phone that one in I’d expect.

Cricket Australia reportedly set to sack Kevin Roberts

Maybe non neutral umpires as well?

Memorable bowling performances in the 1980s: Part 2

You know how when a player makes a rep team he often gets sledged “What are you doing here, your not even the best player in your club”? Apparently when Mark Waugh showed up in England when playing for an Aus touring team he copped “What are you doing here, your not even the best player in your family!” 😁

The best Test XI of Smiths

I’m sure you’ve heard the old joke “Where does the English cricket team stay when they tour South Africa?”

“With their parents” 😊

Born to rule: Which cities have produced the best Test players?

He was epitome of toughness AB averaged 56.5 away and just under 46 at home. He averaged 53 in WI against that attack! 65 in England from 25 tests, what would we do to have him nowadays!

Australia's greatest ever Test XI

Maybe someone can shed some light on Seb Gotch’s keeping prowess as it seems odd he is over looked in discussions. FC average of 38 compared to Carey’s 34 means he can hold a bat but can he hold a catch? 🏏

The next best uncapped Test players from each state

Good comments there Tom, Nathan Ellis looks very lively and swings the Duke at great pace. Bryce Street looks an old school opener, lots of patience.

And Renshaw ended the season dropped by Queensland.

I don’t think too many are talking up Doran. That would be extremely left field.

In the second innings Maxwell opened the batting AND the bowling!
