Ive always had a soft spot for the doggies and always hope they win unless they play the Cats. This week is different. Geelong has nothing to gain and the Doggies have everything to lose and as much as its good to win the last game of the season, just this once I hope the doggies pip the cats by one point and no injuries to either side.

Has Luke Beveridge made the most of the Western Bulldogs' talent, or is he all smoke and mirrors?

Was it a case of giving their all in 22 combined with a short pre season? Injuries were definitely the killer for Geelong this season with up to 8 or nine players out some weeks. Nearly every player if not all have missed games with injury time possibly partly due to an aging list and just bad luck and any decent cohesion in the team has suffered because of this. Other teams with younger players have improved this season while Geelong has clearly not. The upside if it can be called that, is in spite of the number of injuries Geelong has not really been badly beaten. As you say Cameron, the smart thing would be to play the youngsters and be in a better draft position but I doubt that is in Geelongs DNA.

They've faded too far in 2023 - where to now for Geelong?

Jesus wept and that’s a realist is it? Look at who the Cats have mainly played. Interstate teams and Victorian teams low on the ladder which inflates their W/L Ratio. In saying that they have been beaten there by 3 or 4 non Victorian teams that have much further to travel and less time to “adapt” to the ground. They’ve played relatively few top Victorian sides there. The fact is it is a registered AFL ground and Geelong like all other teams are entitled to play on it.
If Richmond were unhappy with the move to the MCG it was up to them to do something about it, not whinge and whine that their home ground isn’t an advantage. If the MCG is no advantage to Richmond why are the only teams beaten at the MCG by Richmond this season non MCG tenants? To my knowledge Richmond has not beaten a co tenant this year. If that doesn’t denote a home ground advantage I don’t know what does.

TOM MORRIS: Footy has never had less integrity - and the AFL wouldn't have it any other way

This constant whining and carping by supporters of non Victorian teams about travel when all interstate teams joined the competition knowing full well this would be the case is like someone buying a house next to an airport and complaining about the noise.
Your logic is flawed considering nearly 90% of teams are interstate, yet Adelaide and P.A. only play 45% of their games away.

More meaningful games, more eyes on screens and more fun: Why 'wildcard weekend' is an absolute no-brainer

You did stick your neck out a bit with that one Cameron but you do have a point if success requires a good Ruckman then Geelong is an exception to the rule

Don't waste the time or money - ruckmen are the most overrated stock in the AFL

No, but you assumed without proof none the less.

Horses for courses I guess Cat.

Whilst Dimma will be getting loads of speculation would he be the right fit? GCS have spent a long time recruiting players for a team with a very different game style. Unless he changed his entire approach it may be like trying to do a U turn with an aircraft carrier.

Well she will eventually be right. Even a broken watch is right twice a day. 😊

Why do some continually feel the need to jump on the virtue signaling band wagon as soon as they hear a woman being criticised. Brian Taylor I would think cops more criticism than Caroline Wilson and IMO deservedly so but no one comes out yelling “misanthropy!”
Criticism of AFL commentators is almost a national sport, so if you cant stand the heat…

Some clubs are probably already on the phone to managers sounding out players as we discuss Dewey’s demise.

What is the kiss of death for any AFL coach? When the Club Presidents says, “Our Club has full confidence in the coach”.

Its is sometimes hard to watch after the beautiful football they played last year and then they serve up this tripe. Admittedly they have had a huge injury list this year which has certainly affected team cohesion but as you say Tim, basic errors they never would’ve made this time last year.
“Oh how the mighty have fallen stripped of their weapons, they lie dead.”

Footy Fix: Sure, the Swans' shocking kicking butchered a win... but the Cats blew it just as badly

Ratogolea is Scotty’s love child and he has persisted for far too long. Henry is a far better player. IMO Ratogolea upsets the balance of the backline.

Footy Fix: Sure, the Swans' shocking kicking butchered a win... but the Cats blew it just as badly

What is your suggestion on holding the ball Tim? I would suggest 3 seconds. IMO anything less would discourage the player picking up the ball in a contest. We don’t want to see a situation where the player attacking the ball has less advantage than the player attacking the ball carrier.

Six Points: Cram the Crows condescending, Bucks, Swans weren't that good, and the rule change AFL must make

As much as wet toast’s fall from grace has attracted a lot of commentary, is it possible that new AFL talent is too thinly stretched? Granted poor recruitment has killed a once great team who did not plan well for life with low draft picks and relied too much on existing talent (and sacrificed too much for a player they could’ve picked up for peanuts in their own back yard.)
Will uncompetitive teams like this become the norm once Tassie enters the competition and dilutes the talent pool even further? Are we destined to see one, two or even three teams as perennially non competitive?

AFL News: 'Playing for cash' - Eagles legend's brutal call on senior stars, Hardwick's coaching reveal

Maybe a compromise by playing a GF at a neutral ground outside of Melbourne if the two grand finalists are non melbourne teams. EG: This year WA could be nominated as the ground if 2 non melbourne teams play off for the GF as neither WA teams will be in the GF this year, whereas there is PA Crows and Lions all with a chance. That would eliminate a last minute nomination. The main problem always is the drop in revenue for Australia’s premium sports event. If the AFL hates anything, it’s not extracting every dollar they can.

Does hosting the grand final at the MCG really provide an advantage for Victorian teams?

What really hurt I was late in tipping so I got Melbourne as default and missed my chance to get one up on a few. I have never tipped against my pussies so that hurt. Not the first time I forgot to put in my tips I usually forget on average two or three times a year and end up with default away teams. So far I think It has only ever advantaged me once. BTW Mays tackle on Rowan was half hearted. He was well out of petrol tickets by then. He couldn’t have caught Rowan in a Taxi.

Footy Fix: Anyone who seriously thought the Cats were missing finals... here's your reality check

You lost me when you said Geelong was a tenant team. Being forced to play games at a venue other than their home ground does not make them a co tenant.

Does hosting the grand final at the MCG really provide an advantage for Victorian teams?

Riewolt may not be the player he was but its not only about replacing his playing ability there is his football smarts and on field leadership and mentoring of younger players that is valuable. They are not replaceable by a younger player.

There's life in old Tigers yet - why Richmond would be mad to move Cotchin and Riewoldt on now

I picked the Dees because I thought Oliver would be back in the side so a lucky one for me.

Footy Fix: Ferocious Demons shut down the Magpie machine at last... but is it repeatable?

Only Don could turn a convo about Geelong into a convo on Freo. I seem to remember last year the Cats weren’t in the conversation pre bye. As Scotty has said before. It’s not who you play but when you play them. He was ridiculed for saying Geelong could win it at the start of the season and I see that quiet confidence in his demeanor now.
Injuries aside, the cats have only played about 3 home games up to the bye. They will have 6 home games after the bye with a pile of players back. The only danger games barring injuries I see for the Cats are Port in Adelaide, because the returning cavalry after the bye will be underdone and the Pies and possibly Brisbane in Brisbane.

Too many injuries, or not hungry enough - what's Geelong's real issue in 2023?

This was never going to fly. Not one statement I have seen or heard from the little so far proffered suggests the comments, if true, were anything more than inapropriate. Making them to someone who is not caucasian does not in any way infer the comments as rascist. We have now reached the point where natural justice, in that the accused gets to face his accusers and test the strength of the evidence is no longer a pre requisite of justice.
The careers of these men have been damaged regardless of the voracity of the evidence. In short Fagan and Clarkson have faced little better than a kangaroo court. It is sad to say but in this age of virtue signalling, these people come out of the woodwork like chinese cultural revolutionists waving Mao’s little red book, with a religous fervour more akin to the Spanish inquisition.

The AFL's response to Hawthorn racism investigation has turned me off footy

Outs for Geelong: Stanley, Dangerfield, De Koning, Bowes, Close, Henry, Guthrie, Rohan, Stengle. After 6 straight in the first Richmond managed 10 goals six to 9 goals 5 in 3 quarters of football and the umps certainly didn’t hinder Richmond. A decent team would’ve buried the depleted cats. The Hubris from the Tigers supporters is laughable. The Tiges are cooked and the only ones that don’t know are their supporters. If they manage to scrape into the 8. the Cats with a full team will bury them in the finals.

Footy Fix: Are Richmond back... or is the Tiger time machine good for one trip only?

I think its disgraceful that this hasnt been brought to a conclusion by now. Clarke and Fagan deserve to give their side of the story to these allegations and the findings based on evidence released. The ongoing damage to their reputations with no end in sight is inexcusable.
