Long time rugby league supporter and sports fan generally. My football playing days were characterised by a deceptive lack of pace, very late tackles, and unexpected chip kicks coming off our own line.

I always went to confession on Friday to avoid the cues and make sure it didn’t get in the way of footy.

The forgotten players: Balmain Tigers

Yep, bad news for Bendall. All over in his early 20’s.

Wigham was a very good old style centre and new how to set up his wingers. I met Wayne through work some years ago and he is a great guy.

Thanks Arnab, and I agree. Kohli is a one-off as a player and a leader. Must be comforting for India to have such a capable back up in Rahane.

The A to Z of the Border-Gavaskar series

Peter, I couldn’t tell you but I’m sure someone out there knows the answer.

You’d have to guess at least 20 across the two sides though.

I never expected anything less from you John on the joke front.

I’m afraid I can’t research the Starling question without some form of financial inducement. Retirement is tougher than I thought.

Hi Nicko

Lockwood certainly made a meal of the comb-over. Probably needed to either shave it all off or drop in to Ashley and Martin for a Warnie.

Doing this series, I’ve been amazed at how many pommies played here over the years, many of them champions like Lockwood, Currier and Myler, and many of them duds.

Yeah, great call 40/20. didn’t play as much first grade as you might have expected but brilliant with the ball on his day. I think he ended up playing and coaching on the south coast.

Thanks Rowdy, you make a very good point about what appears to be a “softening” of the latest generations.

Perhaps there’s too many easier things to do at times than busting a gut playing sport.

The A to Z of the Border-Gavaskar series

Thanks Richie. I guess the drop in pitches are partially responsible, together with the apparent desire to make pitches, and the game in general, as “batting friendly” as possible.

There are plenty of people reading this who will have forgotten some or all of these players.

The forgotten players: Western Suburbs Magpies

Hey, that would have been a great experience. It’s a wonder you could understand their accents 😁

The forgotten players: Western Suburbs Magpies

Thanks mate. Rest assured, I know what “forgotten” means.

You’d be surprised how many people reading this will have forgotten either some or all of the players mentioned.

The forgotten players: Balmain Tigers

Yes Andrew, Prattl played for a few clubs in a few positions.

Now Bendall was a seriously talented centre in the mid to late 70’s. I think a serious neck injury ended his career.

The forgotten players: Balmain Tigers

Thanks for your input Sheek. The 1969 grand final was an interesting affair with Balmain players going down faster that Indian cricketers. Souths were never able to build any momentum.

I watched the game from that little corner hill area at the Paddington end.

I eat pressure for breakfast MR 😁

I’ll add it to the list

The forgotten players: Western Suburbs Magpies

That’s a pretty hot Jersey Flegg team Jim

You lost me at “Tim Paine acts like a clown”.

No Paine, our gain

Wow. Didn’t know that Glumly. Thanks for the info.

The forgotten players: Western Suburbs Magpies

😂

Hi MR – yes, Stan Cutler, very strong player. Actually had 10 seasons with the Dogs

The forgotten players: Western Suburbs Magpies

Tu’uta got a mention in the Western Reds article. I considered Hanley, but couldn’t go past the players named. There’s so many to choose from.

The forgotten players: Western Suburbs Magpies

Haha. Pretty rare for Rocket to be sent off.

He seemed to have a licence to kill.

The forgotten players: Western Suburbs Magpies

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen Andrew

Jarrod Mullen: A rare case of a deserved second chance

Bananas in da marnus

How did you come up with that one

The Liebke Ratings: Australia vs India, fourth Test

Made it hard to “glass” someone though
