Yep I completely agree with that, bilateral white-ball series almost need to be scrapped except maybe preceding a WC, otherwise all breaks in the calendar should be filled with Test cricket, which should include all Test playing nations, not just the big 3

'If we're not careful, we're going to be left behind': The future of cricket feels familiar

My thoughts exactly, lovely having this chat. Cheers.

'If we're not careful, we're going to be left behind': The future of cricket feels familiar

Yes exactly, saying that cricket is only sustainable if it’s played by the big 3 is like saying the EPL is only fun if the big 6 are the only teams that play…it will quickly become boring, repetitive and meaningless. Which is actually the three words I use to describe T20 cricket ????

Certainly the situation in South Africa is dicey. I believe that they have tried to justify reducing Tests now so that they can bring in an increased revenue which will in turn allow for more Tests in future? The alignment of SA20 with the IPL is a sign of something greater, where the owners of IPL teams will sign players on central contracts that will allow the player to play for each team that is aligned with them. Unfortunately, there is no onus on private investors to do what is best for cricket rather than what is best for themselves. The horse has bolted as far as I’m concerned when it comes stopping private investment from controlling the game on a global scale.

My last line was a little bit of tongue and cheek, as I do love football but not necessarily T20 cricket. Unfortunately, for test cricket to survive, national teams need income which predominantly comes from their T20 leagues.

I agree, I think there’ll be a lot of people lamenting the way cricket is going, but I think we’ll have to make our peace with it if we want to keep test cricket alive.

Exactly! The hypocrisy of having the aforementioned players in the HoF but not Cousins is what gets me.

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

Exactly, to your opinion. What about Gary Ablett snr who took illegal drugs during his career? Or Wayne Carey who definitely brought the game into disrepute?

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

I understand that that’s your opinion ok. But, if the AFL don’t think he should be stripped of his awards, which it looks like they don’t, then clearly he should be eligible.

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

Very true, amazing to think he could have been even better than he was without the addiction.
Cheers!

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

I suspect that you’re correct in that the AFL probably won’t induct him until he is back on his feet. But if that time never comes would you ever be supportive of his induction?

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

No doubt the drug testing system at that period of time was far from perfect but I feel it’s too far to deny him due to people having suspicions.

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

Thanks for that article, it was a great read! I completely agree that WCE let themselves down, the fans down, and in my opinion they let the players down. I also don’t doubt that at the beginning of preseason he would’ve been unfit, he spent the whole time taking drugs haha.

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

I really like what you’ve said here…perhaps it is best to induct at a time where he’d be in a good headspace.
Cheers!

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

What you’re saying is correct, but where is the evidence that he took it while playing in the first place? He never failed a drug test.
Cheers!

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

Cheers Jack! I agree that they should be judged on their footballing ability first and foremost and there are heaps of questionable characters already in the HoF

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

I can see where you’re coming from, I knew my opinion wouldn’t exactly be popular. But considering the AFL do recognise all of his achievements still that it would be hypocritical of them to then deny a HoF honour?
Cheers!

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

It absolutely does Adam! Cheers!

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

I do agree that West Coast dealt with the whole situation very poorly

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

I know they aren’t the same but surely punching someone in the jaw is a criminal act? I wasn’t trying to say whose was worse, more acknowledging that there are questionable characters in the HoF

It’s about time Ben Cousins is in the Hall of Fame

I respect your opinion as I knew mine wouldn’t be popular, but from what I’ve heard he was that he trained the hardest out of everyone and was actually extremely fit…although I wouldn’t be surprised if that fell away towards the end.
As for your last point, I do agree that the club dealt with the whole situation very poorly.

Hi Mountie, I do believe I stated in the article that some players left as children and had no say in the matter…

Devon Conway is yet another talented South African playing for a different country

Once again I do agree with you that playing for England did allow him to play more tests during that period, we should also remember that his international career ended prematurely due to mental health issues, not lack of ability.

With a different topic I might not be so responsive, but this one seems to bring the passion out of people haha, cheers mate.

Devon Conway is yet another talented South African playing for a different country

I seem to have underestimated the passion for this topic hahaha. I love the debate though and I’m happy to be proved wrong
