Huh? What are you on about? I was responding to Tony’s comment about the headline, not the whole coverage on the roar.

The Socceroos are out of the World Cup, but they've restored our faith in football

Yeah we just accepted the complaint. So long as you all understand that we were akshually making a really subtle pun that wasn’t obvious to you all or you’d have been cool with it. But it’s ok we’ll change it, we’ll change it, but yeah… it was a pun.

Yeah nah, not defensive at all 😂

The Socceroos are out of the World Cup, but they've restored our faith in football

Yeah cos you know, the headline that literally said Ryan should feel shame wasn’t meant that way cos Ryan kinda rhymes with crying.

If the Socceroos had this level of defensiveness, they might have stopped Messi.

Super relevant to the cricket then. Pat must explain it to us!

'No cowards in Australian team': Cummins responds to Langer diatribe, names XI, defends 'woke' players

I wonder if Pat Cummins is too woke.

'No cowards in Australian team': Cummins responds to Langer diatribe, names XI, defends 'woke' players

Exactly and despite all of that he was constantly criticised for being too PC (frequently on these pages), which is the old, quaint way of describing someone as too woke.

😂 I think I must have more than 167 then because I’m just really tired all the time. Too much woke not enough sleep.

'No cowards in Australian team': Cummins responds to Langer diatribe, names XI, defends 'woke' players

Do you know that he hasn’t done the work or are you making that assumption?

I remember when David Pocock was getting accused of being too PC. I guess those were the old days before the word “woke” had become the latest fad. Anyway he was apparently too PC all focused on symbolism and nothing else. That’s despite the fact that he ran a charity in Zimbabwe (to which he donates funds), put his body on the line to prevent a coal mine, and didn’t get married until his gay friends could too, constantly advocating for hearing impaired.

With the way Pocock was labelled as too PC even though he put his money where his mouth was, I don’t think it has anything to do with what you described. I think it’s just people not liking the opinion the player has.

'No cowards in Australian team': Cummins responds to Langer diatribe, names XI, defends 'woke' players

But where did he mention critical race theory?

'No cowards in Australian team': Cummins responds to Langer diatribe, names XI, defends 'woke' players

Huh? I had to look up critical race theory and I’m confused, why does Pat owe you an explanation about that? I don’t think he’s mentioned it anywhere has he? Have you just plucked it out of your nethers?

'No cowards in Australian team': Cummins responds to Langer diatribe, names XI, defends 'woke' players

It does make you worry that’s for sure.

Replied to the wrong comment

'No cowards in Australian team': Cummins responds to Langer diatribe, names XI, defends 'woke' players

FFS. How can you be “too woke”??

What, you’ve got too many values? You think too much about things? Or you’ve just got different values and someone wants to have a whinge about it.

There’s politics in sport. There always has been. Players take stands. They always have. Banging on about someone being “too woke” is such an imported characterisation to hide someone having a whinge cos they disagree with the values of the player.

If you don’t like players having an opinion and sharing it, you’ve got to build a bridge cos they have always done so and will always do so.

Yeah cos that’s an accurate read of the situation. The only reason Manly lost seven in a row was poor performances by DCE.

I just wish I could remember which one of them guided their team to victory in their only head to head rep games this year.

The Wrap: Essendon and Manly debacles an opportune reminder for rugby to focus on its core values

Seems I can’t get a dissenting comment through today. Oh well, in brief, this is a rubbish piece that wilfully misrepresents several parts to the story (not to mention draws some elongated bows to draw in irrelevant connections) to air the author’s poor critical thinking skills.

The Wrap: Essendon and Manly debacles an opportune reminder for rugby to focus on its core values

Agree. This is a very poor quality article.

The Wrap: Essendon and Manly debacles an opportune reminder for rugby to focus on its core values

Geoff, this is a weak article. A blinkered view masquerading as rational analysis.

You think there are different levels of tolerance applied to an old white man and a young Muslim woman? Do you really think that’s the key difference? There are different standards of behaviour expected from players and CEOs. Choosing to ignore that fact and fabricating an issue based on race and gender is willfully misrepresenting the situation.

You also kindly shelter us from the church’s views about abortion. What was the mealy-mouthed phrase you used? Some confronting and distasteful things were said. They think it’s murder, Geoff. That means they think every vulnerable woman who’s ever had to make the incredibly difficult decision to get an abortion is a murderer. Why not tell it like it is?

And this whole thing of inclusivity really meaning exclusion for some? Sigh. How many times does it need to be said that we don’t have to tolerate the choice to be intolerant? Particularly when the focus of the intolerance is about something for which there is no choice.

If someone’s chosen values are to discriminate against others based on something they cannot choose, such as their sexuality, then we don’t have to tolerate that. It’s a very clear line. And it’s why no one cares Folau had a go at liers and adulterers in his infamous social media post. I don’t know why you choose to ignore that obvious distinction.

And finally, who knows what was said behind closed doors that made Essendon push Thorburn out the door. Maybe a senior figure in Essendon has had an abortion and is an advocate for women’s rights in this area. It’s not going to be a healthy work environment if the CEO considers that person a murderer.

These days it looks like the wallabies are having a dig. They have reduced the amount of dumb play I think. They try expansive plays but generally only when they’ve earned the right to do so.

We’re clearly not one of the top teams but we don’t give up anymore. Teams have to beat us (or get the ref to steal the game from us 😛) and that’s all I ask. So long as the boys put in as much on the field as I do on the couch, Rennie has my support.

The Wrap: How is it that when the Wallabies lose, support for Dave Rennie goes up?

😂 He’s come a long way, the little warrior.

Rugby news: Ref poked furious White and was caught in a fib in post-game clash, Boks deny cocaine rumours

So now we know the ref, unable to control his emotions, decided that stealing the game from the wallabies was not enough. He chose to physically assault Nic White in another moment of irrational fury. It’s gone from le shrug to l’attaque.

I for one and shocked and appalled. Je suis choqué et appallé.

Well said, jez.

Case for the prosecution: Why Wallabies' ref lament is wrong and just a smokescreen for bigger issues

The outrage of those who think the decision was a disgrace is only matched by the sanctimony of those desperate to demonstrate their capacity for cool-headed analysis.

We’re angry because the ref applied the rules inconsistently, calling on this particular rule for the first time in anyone’s memory at a crucial moment of the rarest of games – one where the wallabies led the all blacks with a minute to go.

You’re going to have to build a bridge and get over our anger and frustration. But while you’re building that bridge, how should we best praise your brilliance?

Case for the prosecution: Why Wallabies' ref lament is wrong and just a smokescreen for bigger issues

But we do know they failed the number one rule of team sport. Always back your teammates.

Instead they had a tantrum that supported the opposition. Kind of like this…

All blacks yelling at the ref: Sir, he’s taking too long!

Wallaby centres screaming at Foley: You’re taking too long!

Ref: you know what? Those players on both sides who think he’s taking to long are probably right.

Their tantrum effectively sided with the kiwis.
