….the football-mad youth who obsessed over former legends like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Matt Simon grew into adulthood….

pure genius… just cost me a laptop though as I spat my coffee all over it when I read that line……

The FFA Cup: I have a dream

Very, very impressive. Some have mentioned the quality of the assist for the 5th goal (totally agree) but what about Kerr’s shoulder control for the 6th while at full sprint. That was world class.

Highlights: Champion Matildas hit Brazil for six

Agree – Nothing comes close to the HAL if you are an Australian surely. And you know, I’m not so sure about all this crying over quality either. Do we really care if we dont have the worlds most talented footballers playing in our league?

I am totally in agreeance with someones comments above about that the Spanish team that won the previous world cup was astonishingly boring! I mean really, really hard to sit through – and I speak as a life long player of, coach of and rabid fan of football.

For mine its not (just) about quality, it must include intensity, desire, willingness and competitiveness. As long as my team (Brisbane) is clearly trying to play ‘real’ football (on the deck and emphasis on skill over brawn) and are giving it all and are being competitive, I will support them all day long. Do I want to see the best possible players playing for Brisbane? Of course (although I have my doubts the HAL will ever see the likes of Broich again) but I want those same players playing with intensity and passion for the shirt.

If it has to be one or the other (which of course it doesn’t) give me a team of dedicated, unified, at least marginally talented players truly putting in for their team, their home city, over a bunch of imported, individual prima donnas playing for the biggest dollars any day of the week.

England? Spain? Italy? Germany? What really is the best league in the world?

Wow that really lost a wheel somewhere along the way there Rick…

I was kinda prepared to stay with you up until: “Bundesliga (like most Germans) is just boring. No one cares about it”

I’m kinda hoping that was tongue in cheek because otherwise…wow…dont take much notice of world football do you Rick.

Who just won the European U21 championship?

Who is in the final of and are just about to win the Confederations Cup with a B team?

Who are the current world champions?

Have you ever been to or even watched a Bundesliga game? I can only assume not.

Go and give yourself a swift uppercut for making such stupid and uneducated comments on a public forum.

England? Spain? Italy? Germany? What really is the best league in the world?

no no and a million times no. I can train a 6 year old to not leave an opposition player unmarked in your penalty box. There are NO reasons for which Jedi should be chosen. NONE and further more – there never have been any.

Five things we learned from the Confederations Cup

“Milligan’s value to the midfield means it’s a hard decision to permanently repurpose him as a part of the back three. But Mile Jedinak could do a similar job, with added aerial prowess, and would certainly be a passing upgrade on Wright. Jedinak’s future might lie there.”

Whaaaaaaaaaat!!!??

I totally agree on the first half of your that statement re the value of Milligan but man oh man – I very nearly choked on my mashed tators on the second half. Unfortunately Jedinaks’ future lies somewhere ANYwhere but on the field.

Five things we learned from the Confederations Cup

Disagree Ben – he is too slow to be a genuine proponent of “Thou Shalt Not Pass”. He just pulls people down as they dance around him and gives away free kicks. The turning circle and acceleration of your average nimble aircraft carrier…..

Stick in the fork – he’s done.

A disappointing result, but cultural change is the real aim of Ange's game

Great article. Surely we have seen the end of Jedinak in the Green and Gold……? I mean no disrespect to the individual who clearly gives all he has and it is not him selecting himself to the National team – but it remains one of the great mysteries of recent years how he ever got into the squad in the first place.

A close look at the Socceroos deep midfield

It is indeed excellent news! Nothing particularly against Oar, but he was never in a million years a Marque player. Let’s now up the standard of the players we are (I am assuming) frantically combing the planet to find…

Tommy Oar set for move to Europe

Sad but absolutely correct I fear.

Highlights: Germany too good for Socceroos in Russia

Worst possible result for Aust.

1. we lost so 0 points
2. we didnt get thrashed on the scoreline so the blind optimists across the nation will feel reassured

reality? but for 2 decidedly dodgy bits of goal keeping by the German 3rd string keeper, and some sloppy finishing by the 3rd string German kids – it would and should of been say 5 – 0.

I love Australia and I want the Australian team to become great and successful, but man oh man – we have to stop blowing wind up ourselves constantly that we in any way came within a bulls roar of any aspect of the Germans C team in this game and most of the recent ones I have watched.

Its not the losing or the being completely outclassed and outplayed that frustrates – it is the mewling nonsense sprouted by our National coach and the blind YES men supporting him that drives me up the wall.

We will keep chipping away slowly slowly – but boys and girls – we have flat-lined under the current coach with the current crop of players (Rogic excepted). Harsh as it is to admit, the best thing now for Australian football is 4 more painful matches and then hopefully on to a new era under a new coach. And lets start all over again….

Highlights: Germany too good for Socceroos in Russia

Amen. and again I say Amen.

Roos' Confed Cup dress rehearsal ends in 4-0 defeat

“Having 28% of the possession isn’t “dominating”

Wow Im glad someone else stated that I was still gasping for breath at the comment in the first place. How could anyone with the intelligence of anything greater than a meat ant put the 2 words ‘dominating’ and ‘Australia” in one sentence after that display. I posted above but happy to post again – the following is a record of how many consecutive passes we achieved from the 10th to the 45th minute last night…. apparently while we were “dominating”

4,1,1,1,2,1,1,0,1,0,2,0,2,1,0,2,4,2,1,0,7,0,0,0,0,0,3,12,6,1,3,5,2,7,9,2,1,2,2

If that’s dominating – I would hate to see what “not quite being on top” looked like…

Roos' Confed Cup dress rehearsal ends in 4-0 defeat

It will never happen Nick. Not so long as Ange remains as coach. It would mean an admission that something he tried did not work and he will never do that. It is the bedrock on which he stands. He never changed anything at Brisbane even when the rest of the league caught up and he never changed anything at MV even tho what he tried to implement never made any sense from the start.

His supposed “no fear and supreme confidence” is merely a very thinly applied veneer over extreme lack of self belief which now comes across simply as stubbornness and arrogance. Sadly, this era is done. Lets move on to the next sooner rather than later please.

But of course, that will never happen either as the FFA doing that would be seen by them as exactly the same as the above…..

Humility is a wonderful trait.

Roos' Confed Cup dress rehearsal ends in 4-0 defeat

I didn’t believe it passive ‘me too’ – the boys really appeared to try, but boy oh boy – are we an ordinary football team! And playing against a team so far advanced I hoped would drive home the reality of this to other Australian supporters. It shouldn’t in any way affect our level of support, but I would hope it would cause a massive rethink on our blind, naive positivity….

Roos' Confed Cup dress rehearsal ends in 4-0 defeat

There it is again. After all these years and examples you would like to think we might have learnt by now – “we will beat Thailand in the final game” as if somehow that is in any way a certainty. As if we are in any aspect of the game a superior team to any other team in the qualification process.

Roos' Confed Cup dress rehearsal ends in 4-0 defeat

The first half of your comment was spot on, but no – Jedinak IS every bit as bad as we all thought. I shudder to think of what the result could of been with Mr “I’ve got a big beard so I’m tough” on the field spraying passes anywhere and hacking down anyone threatening to run past him…

Roos' Confed Cup dress rehearsal ends in 4-0 defeat

actually – that’s not bad…. Here is the Australian teams consecutive passes record from the 10th to the 45th minute where I gave up and switched off.

I only started recording in the 10th minute because I was stunned and excited to see 4 passes strung together then for the 1st time in the game. Between the 10th and the 39th minute it only happened again twice.

4,1,1,1,2,1,1,0,1,0,2,0,2,1,0,2,4,2,1,0,7,0,0,0,0,0,4,12,6,1,3,5,2,7,9,2,1,2,2

In binary that spells: “Oh dear we are sooooo gonna get smashed in Russia….”

And yet I actually heard people – including our coach – not say things like “well wasn’t THAT a total gobsmacking disaster” and “boy that was pretty embarrassing” and “we did kinda look like not very useful training cones out there”

I think the most realistic assessment and honest comment I believe anyone made on the night was: “I think we need to scale back our expectations somewhat dramatically…..”

I will forever watch and support the Australian team – because of course – they are MY team, but please, please – lets stop this “lets talk positive and everything will turn out alright” mantra because ummm no it wont.

Let’s give it time and money and time and money and time and money and maybe just one day… who knows

Roos' Confed Cup dress rehearsal ends in 4-0 defeat

Prior to discovering that he is suspended, it would have been Millsy. A better player at every aspect of the game than Jedinak – and I am not even particularity a fan of him.

Is another draw good enough for the Socceroos?

any format that involves Jedinak being on the pitch is a format to be avoided at all cost if we are serious about winning this game.

Is another draw good enough for the Socceroos?

wont happen now Real as he has made the clever move of laying out the timing of his own demise.

and besides, he has also meticulously laid the ground work for any numbers of reasons to cite if we fail to qualify: everything from the quality of the local pitches, to us a supporters not treating the games as he would like us to treat them….

I mean seriously?

Ange Postecoglou announces final 23-man Socceroos squad for June internationals

whatever you do – see if you can avoid mentioning “You’ll never Walk Alone” and do all of us a favour 🙂

It’s time for the FFA to dream, build a dam - and forget the numbers

Unnoted in everything I have read so far is the quiet passing of that always underappreciated and often unfairly bagged but ever reliable Matty McKay……

Surely his absence here in even the 30 man squad must signal the final curtain has fallen.

You have never let us down Matty. Thank you for your years of dedicated service to the Green & Gold.

Socceroos name 30-man squad for June internationals

as always – which is why surely Mclaren would be safe to make it through to the 23…
