Will be very interesting to see where he rates in terms of greats in the 1 jumper if he does win this GF.

3 Premierships , thats 3 more than Inglis , 2 more than Slater.

Why the Sea Eagles will win the NRL Grand Final

The fact the coaches mother died on game day , whilst never going to be used as an excuse by the club or players , was a HUGELY overlooked factor. When half time came and the team needed Maguire’s full concentration , surely some part of his thinking just wasnt there. Such a tragic event to happen but the worst possible timing for Souths.

Souths' collapse under pressure of the past

I love how one extra tackle is proof of a conspiracy. Like giving a side one more tackle is the ultimate plan , gee its that easy.

Revealing the real conspiracy in the NRL

Yeah I guess JT forgot that Inglis knocked the ball on last year in Origin to win the game then Hodges Shepherd was missed as well that handed them the series.

Cowboys back Thurston's claims

Yes you can.

http://www.nrl.com/match-review-committee-to-sue-meninga/tabid/10874/newsid/63803/default.aspx

Thurston has accused the game at its highest level of being corrupt , and of match fixing.

He deserves the book thrown at him. Then he needs to go and give Kane Linnett a serve for his blunder that should have won them the game was worse.

Bucked Cowboys blinded by anger

I find it amazing that JT , one of the most respected players in the game , can accuse match officials and the eintire game of match fixing in the media , yet he wont be sanctioned and he is defended by his club.

Remember the match review committee sued Meninga for defamation , surely this is even worse than that. The NRL should suspend him for bringing the game into disrepute.

Cowboys back Thurston's claims

Footy show goes alright. Get rid of slats but otherwise it is OK.

Its a light entertainment show with footy players on it , it is not a footy dedicated show on a Thursdays , the fact people cant understand this 20 years on is amazing.

My NRL Footy Show panel for 2014

I’m calling shenanigans.

Take Ferguson for instance , who you highlighted.

You call 5 instances of off field issues. The most serious is before the courts but unproven currently so no judgement can be made on that.

The other 4 , driving without a licence is a criminal offence and will be rightfully punished by the law. The other 3 were drinking related and his club sacked him.

You said

“However, when the rest of the male population of Australia aged approximately 18 to 32, fail to turn up to work, hit their girlfriend, drink on a rooftop at 7am in the morning and put it on Instagram for their boss to see, are found guilty of carrying drugs, get caught speeding on a suspended license, punch a sponsor, drink drive or sexually assault a female, there are drastic repercussions above and beyond just the legal ramifications.”

You are 100% spot on , and Canberra took those actions , they sacked him. To call for the NRL to ban him is silly. He has been punished. If he has talent that another employee is willing to take on despite his history then why should he be stopped from that. if I got sacked for drinking offenses that affected my output and companies business , and then my companies opposition made me an offer with full disclosure of my indiscretions , there is no issue with me accepting , why should it be different for someone like Blake.

The NRL should de-register serial dickheads

How did you miss that Todd Carney and Jesse Pinkman are the same person. I mean has anyone ever seen them together ?

Who's breaking bad in the NRL?

Or alternatively this is a concept for additional revenue for Rugby League , exposing the game in NZ where Rugby union is king , and giving the fans something different ot the same 26 rounds of regular football.

Is NRL Nines really the way to go?

Well England and India both play more 20/20 than us , and they won 4-0 and 3-0 over us. Maybe 20/20 benefits test players.

Is NRL Nines really the way to go?

This will take NOTHING away from the normal competition , and will add an exciting tournament from nothing. Its a no brainer win win for the game.

Guessing the people who don’t like this were against 20/20 when it first came in.

Is NRL Nines really the way to go?

I beg to differ. A winning culture helps build clubs enormously. Its hard to build great cultures on the back of losing and lack of confidence.

What great sides do better than the rest

Post moderated by The Roar. Not appropriate.

What great sides do better than the rest

Why not call Rugby Union , Rugby Union and call Rugby League , Rugby League.

Not all that confusing if you ask me.

Should rugby league get its own name?

Would Melbourne have this culture ingrained if it wasn’t built by an illegally assembled team.

Would Manly have this culture recently if Stephen Danks wasn’t at the club for its years of recent success.

What great sides do better than the rest

Cant believe there is an article claiming a culture is good partly based on accepting ref decisions , then mentioning Manly in the same sentence.

Its ridiculous , there should be an investigation into this article. Someone has to be held accountable. Its ridiculous.

What great sides do better than the rest

They are finishing the season like St George in 2009. They wont win a semi.

Sydney Roosters hit a timely slump

Souths were penalised out of it for the first ten due to the worst sin binning ever.

Are the Titans trying to ruin the NRL?

Not really. A draw after Golden Point this Friday means they lose the minor premiership, if they beat the Titans yesterday then a draw would have been enough to win it.

SBW's shocker: Tried everything, nothing worked

Guys , it is not proven he has punched anyone yet. it is rumour only. Always will be unless the girl changes her statement.

NRL integrity unit probe Barba claim

The easiest way to get rid of the issue is make sure that any player sacked or leaving on compassionate grounds cannot sign a contract elsewhere over and above the contract they were currently on .

So if Barba has 3 years and $400k a season left , the max Broncos can give him is 3 years and $400k a season.

If Dugan is sacked with 2 years and $350k left , the max the dragons could have given him is the same.

Would soon stop the rorts.

Doesn't a contract mean anything?

Toovey was wrong on most counts.

The hit on GI was high , penalty. If you lay down or not its still a high hit , the refs should have got it the first time so he cant whinge about the play. Be cranky at Horo for conceeding the penalty.

About the Matai no try. Under the rules it was the correct decision by the video ref. The on field called no try and you couldnt see the ball on the line or over the line in any replay. So the video ref under the rules was right , despite it practially being a try any day of the week. Last years benefit of the doubt rules it was a try. Toovey needs to brush up on rules or not whinge about it.

I think he had a fair gripe about the Lima leg pull. I wouldnt have hated someone to do the same tackle to GI.

The penalty count his boys just lacked discipline. They tried to play to slow in the ruck and got caught out. Bad execution of his game plan.

Toovey's complaining continues

Thats very true. Its also why the NRL should introduce a rule that if you leave a club for compassionate grounds you can only sign with the new club for the same period of your current contract and at the same wage.

That will stop guys going for more money and claiming compassionate grounds.

Its a fairly easy rort now. Any player with a family if they get offered a large contract from a team interstate can pretend to split from their partner who ‘moves’ to that city and move on compassionate grounds himself. Not at all saying Ben did this , I believe his story , but ensuring the contract stays the same , it removes the opportunity to rort.

Time for the NRL to introduce player trades

Its not the best.

The AFL system is woefully predictable.

Last 2 years its as boring as anything.

Teams 6-8 drop out first game , teams 5-7 have dropped outweek 2 , then the Top 4 played off in the GF qualifiers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_AFL_finals_series
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_AFL_finals_series

Next 2 years its as boring as anything.
Teams 7-8 drop out first game , teams 5-6 have dropped outweek 2 , then the Top 4 played off in the GF qualifiers

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_AFL_finals_series
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_AFL_finals_series

The year before it was identical except Team 8 beat team 5 in the first round before losing in the second. Again all top 4 teams met in the GF qualifiers

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_AFL_finals_series

Then in 2007 it was the same as 09 and 10. Teams 7 +8 dropping first week , teams 5 + 6 dropping out second week and the Top 4 playing off in the GF qualifiers

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_AFL_finals_series

2005 + 2006 was almost as bad. Except 5 + 6 dropped out week 1 then 7 + 8 in week 2. again teams 1-4 made it to the GF qualifiers
.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_AFL_finals_series
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_AFL_finals_series

2002 + 2003 + 2004 was back to 7 + 8 dropping out week 1 , 5 + 6 dropping out week 2 , the Top 4 palying in the GF qualifiers
.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_AFL_season
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_AFL_season
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_AFL_season

2001 was AMAZING , team 6 actually made it to the GF Qualifer , with a 3 point win in the minor game. Can you believe it.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_AFL_season

2000 was a good old 7 + 8 dropping out week 1 again , 5 + 6 dropping out week 2 , then the Top 4 playing in the GF qualifiers

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_AFL_season

So in the entire 13 years of this wonderful AFL system , only 1 team from outside the Top 4 has ever made it to the Grand Final Gualifier. 1 spot from 52 available spots.
Not for me thanks , I enjoy the unpredictability too much. The AFL might as well do away with the first 2 weeks as they are completely pointless.

The NRL has had one season of it and you guessed it , all Home teams won and Top 4 all made it to GF qualifiers. At least with the McIntyre system there is scope for upsets.

NRL finals format fine as it is
