I hope there’s not a legal way out of this. I hope the truth comes out in this. Every elite sportsperson gets it drummed into them, particularly when recovering from injury, regarding what you can and can’t put into your body. In past cases, ignorance just doesn’t cut it. Just ask Shane Warne, and that was in the infancy of WADA and suspensions.

BREAKING: Bronson Xerri stood down following positive doping test

The draft system has been around successfully for years in the NFL, NBA, AFL, and I am surprised to find it not operating in the NRL. There is more than just drafting eligible players. The league has to set up youth academies, talent evaluation, accredited coaching programs and much more, which all three of the above leagues have in place. The benefits of the draft can be enormous to a well run club, and also enable strugglers to compete again. As for players only wanting to play for the club of their choice, that’s as old fashioned as not having a draft

We need an NRL draft now

If Abdo isn’t up to the game as you say, why did V’landy install him as CEO in the first place? Answer, so he could control the works.

V'landys' game clearly has an end date

V’Iandy is chairman of the board, he effectively sacked Greenberg, and appointed Abdo. Why is V’Iandy still making decisions that a CEO should be making. Because he can’t delegate responsibility, he wants to keep control over everything, it will eventually affect the running of the nrl, if not already.

V'landys' game clearly has an end date

Do people here really believe V’Landy could have pushed the nrl through the lockdown as he says. As has been shown, he is a power hungry control freak, as Greenberg the refs, and the medical lady referred to in this column can attest to, not to mention his actions in the racing industry. I believe one the nrl will look back on his Chairmanship with regret.

Great to have NRL back, but it always had to stop

Who but a pie fan could support them in a Grand Final, no matter who Collingwood are playing.

Four burning questions for Collingwood ahead of the AFL restart

I’m a bit off subject here, but what was the point of appointing a new CEO when V’landy seems to be making all the decisions, as he does with racing. He’s becoming a bit of a one man show.

Don't expect a smooth transition to one on-field referee

I agree with you there, after watching them trail off last year, things don’t look good for them at all.
Lucky there’s no crowds this year, from the amount of booing you hear on the tv at Adelaide Oval they would probably boo their own team this year.

As much as I would love to see a smiling Stewart Dew after the game, I just can’t see the Suns having the fire power to stop Geelong. Regarding their recruits and drafts that you mention, I hope they don’t go the way of past ones and live the life of the Gold Coast.

Thank you for that. Was my memory correct with Como park Melbourne?

I think you’ve misread the headline. This is one of a series of articles on BBL teams, whether they’ve won a title or not

Greatest ever BBL teams: Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades

Any team outside NSW is a start up underdog, as this league is so Sydney centric.

My favourite rugby league underdogs of all time

If I remember correctly Croad was traded back to Hawthorn and had a successful career, including all Australian selection and played in the 2008 premiership.
As for McPharlin, you need to take off your rose coloured glasses, he was a good player but I can remember him being beaten by Buddy and Browne on a quite a few occasions.

The best players that slipped through the cracks since 2000

My mistake, I got it part right, at least it was one of the Melbourne teams

The Crows haven’t got much history in the overall scheme of things, and they can’t break an arm or bleed for their state, as they are not alone representing Adelaide

Croad was already a recognised player prior to going to Freo, and I think you’re stretching “best key defender of the 21st Century” a bit with McPharlin.

I think Fanning might have even made South’s Team of The Century. But this team is still pretty good compared with some of the previous ones

Sorry Geoff I’ve been a rugby player and supporter all my life, but as soon as I saw that loud mouth Fitzsimons being quoted in the article I lost interest. It’s all my way or the highway for him, he’s not interested in anymore else’s opinion.

The Wrap: Cauliflower Club a shining light in Australian rugby

Foster and Cook must have played all their Tests against everyone but Australia, because I have no recollection of either of them.

We don’t need to be reminded again about Josh Kennedy, big mouth Eddie does every time we play the Swans. You’ve gone further by putting him at the top of the list.

V’landy’s is the Chairman of the nrl, which has a full time CEO who oversees the running of the nrl, including refs on his behalf. If V’landy’s was full time you would question the role of the CEO.

NRL refs are victims of dinosaur fans and gutter journalism

Couldn’t agree with you more. How can the NRL make such an arbitrary decision on an issue of this importance so close to season beginning. Refs have always been the whipping boys of the players, coaches and supporters, which makes it easy for the nrl to pressure this one through

Why didn’t he play VFL earlier?

I think that may be the scheduled day for the AFL grand final

Should the grand final return to the afternoon?

Matt, checked out your RL book lists article just then, and as I suspected, with only 18 comments, most of that demographic struggle to read, as do the players speak. Good effort on your part to put these both together though, I appreciated at least this one.
