Clubs win Premierships....not players nor coaches alone. 1PAFC

It’s human nature Richie every revolution is history was met with an over correction before balance was found.
I thought the same as most on this particular incident in that the initial high contact was drawn but a free should have been awarded for the way the tackle continued.
Jack is not a victim of the media, afl or anyone else but himself for being so outward with his ploy….in fact his admissions suggest it was the umpires that were falling victim to his deception and it’s really no wonder they let a few go….I would have….damn human failings…..
But I do feel for the kid, he is just a kid, and has hopefully learnt some valuable lessons….he isn’t the only one (and I cringe when port players do it…and don’t care if they don’t get frees for it!…or diving forward)…..and it has been happening for too long……
There was another article on Roar something about Joel and what’s the ducking difference (I can’t properly remember as it wasn’t great) but the answer is, there is no difference……
As fans of the game we should be lamenting “Why now?” for what ever the reasons we should be celebrating “About time!”

The vilification of Jack Ginnivan

Pretty sure bad kicking for goal has cost a team finals already it will hardly be a first….but I’m always surprised (staggered maybe!) by the inference that clubs and players do “very little” to improve it! How do you know? I’m pretty sure some even try to recreate crowd noise and pressure….if a couple of miskicked goals late in a high pressure game is “farcical” so to is having a guess at what clubs do at training and passing it off as insight….
I do agree with your assessment of the rushed behind rule…..but I think Hippers should have got a week it’s just cheap AF and dangerous for the ump, AFL had a chance to nip it in the bud…..
Give North a PP hell give them 2 and then send them to Tas!…There’s too many vic clubs, if they can’t remain viable..fold them up…..long term goal should be 12 teams and a true H&A….

Six Points: The broken rule that the AFL must fix, and the simple, obvious stat that will cost someone the flag

Yep my bad forgot about Brodie he has been really good….don’t care about brownlow votes tho….

AFL power rankings: The empire strikes back

My votes for recruit of the would be:
1- Hewitt
2- Dawson
3- Stengle
But Chol has been great for the Suns

Ider made comment on your inaccuracies, not his fault, the “blindness” in this instance was caused directly by you being unable to recall Neale’s last year at freo……and you chose to answer with personal insults with the correction almost an aside.
And yes “Don” hahaha….I’m one of those types of people 🙂

Wait, how many Blues? My mid-2022 All Australian team

I don’t think he was advertising a lack of knowledge Don, in fact it’s clear he looked up the stats from Neales last year at Freo as your original comment alludes to…your error caused the confusion…..it’s ok to be humble Don I’d suggest you tone it down a bit…….

Wait, how many Blues? My mid-2022 All Australian team

Oh please…so dramatic Cameron..
Instead of stand what would you prefer they yell?
Played a fair bit of footy in Kindy did you? Held back a bit?
When you have confirmed you’ve fallen out of love with the game can you please pass your “expert” mantle to someone else so we can get some positive footy stories instead of you bleating’s to the outraged mob…..

Overly officious umpiring is making AFL all but unwatchable

I agree with Cameron on this one, and I also include some comments at pressers as evidence of his mediocracy…..

On your point Macca, maybe it’s more of an indictment that the players who played under him the longest did the least to see him off?

With Leon Cameron gone, GWS finally have a chance

Hmm good point, either or but maybe Williams is a better fit being a night game…..I’d like to see Mitch given a rest either way as he has had some big jobs and the calf soreness is a gentle warning…..I suspect he’ll be cleared and play though, I wouldn’t even bother fitness testing him…Lord is definitely promising

Forget the last three weeks, Ken Hinkley needs to go

I reckon Georgie needs a rest Hub….what do you think about giving Lord a run this week?

Forget the last three weeks, Ken Hinkley needs to go

Who are you talking to? Or are you just trying to gather some numbers for the “Sack the Coach” rally after only 7 rounds?? It’s Port here not Carlton….
Ok So let’s be real…..
Was there even a remote chance of Ken being sacked Easter weekend even if we had not brought it back….no there wasn’t, what a ridiculous statement.
So if wins over WC don’t count what should we do for teams that lose to them?…..
And let me gets this right, you’re saying the only major move he has made is the one that won us a close game but it had nothing to do with him?? Seems strange, Robbie one out in our 50 is nothing new either…..
Given it’s a hypothetical there is actually a very easy way of escaping your presumption that the Saints would have won in the dry! (even if I suspect you’re right!)
You stop it!…the hyperbole that is…..if callin for his head after 4 weeks is ridiculous so to is 3 weeks to save his job..
Again, who are you talking to?
We are well aware there has been 10 years with no flag, in fact there is another 12 teams out there with no flag to show for their last 10 years, we are also well aware of Hinkleys influence on the Club as a whole……to say Port wont move forward in “any capacity” if we don’t move him on “soon” is again, you guess it, ridiculous and more hyperbole (I commend your consistency).
But don’t get it twisted, I can’t see Port playing finals this year or achieving the milestones I would have set to see him, as a minimum, being able to see out his current contract….i.e. I think this should be his last year but IMO he has earnt the right to stay until the end of the year (I actually hope that when the very small chance of finals dwindles he will give the club his blessing to shop around quietly for his replacement…

Forget the last three weeks, Ken Hinkley needs to go

Ah, well comment stands…..

Six Points: Let's calm down about the Dons, defending the Kelly trade, and the AFL's worst fixture choice in years

Might be a year to get some finals experience this year Don but they look more than capable on their day…………while people were talking about their outs this week I was talking up their ins (I’d seen enough of both to be impressed)

Six Points: Let's calm down about the Dons, defending the Kelly trade, and the AFL's worst fixture choice in years

Houston was better but we need more from him…and amon…be more direct…and someone needs to teach Butters how to fall/land properly before he hurts himself again..

AFL Round 6 power rankings: Another tight Anzac Day classic

Spot on Don, This type of ridiculous posturising will hopefully fade away as well (look I can use big emotive adjectives to).
Maybe an “expert” will ask themselves “what would I do” and write about that instead of pandering to the already vocal “outraged” that give them so many views, clicks and comments….

AFL House does it again - creating more problems than they solve

Indeed….the best I could find was AFL has same as a few, way less rules than Cricket and less than soccer…..not accounting for bylaws, subsections etc but I ain’t going there!…..what we undeniably have more of (as apposed to guessing or assuming we “must”…”) is on field officials, that bring with it different angles and interpretations more so than any rule being highlighted during the week (rolled out to clubs but obviously we need the AFL to roll out to our Roar “experts”) but how do we over come that?
Everybody wants consistency but when the AFL try to teach a particular rule where there was recent inconsistencies and the umps focus is on it, as it was front of mind, and don’t get every decision the same we set of the “look at me I’m outraged” brigade….can’t win with some, can’t please all the people………..
What’s more hilarious is the attempt to connect non existent dots between the Cats connection like a true warrior of conspiracy……that and the suggestions fan have a keen sense of just and unjust pfft even the most unbias lean towards their team

AFL House does it again - creating more problems than they solve

Geez Isaac Smith cops a lot for having a grimace that resembles a smile……gun…

AFL Easter Monday Microscope: Umpire dissent, booing premiership heroes and another Cats-Hawks classic

Every revolution begins with an over correction before levelling out once a balance is found….if you think the umps are over reacting to the instruction to look for raised arms as an indication of dissent (and there was def soft examples) then try reading some of the commentary after just one weekend …..oh wait….
Well as a Port fan I welcome the distraction!

BRETT GEEVES: Round 5 was a s--t show and ludicrous spate of 50m penalties threatens to derail AFL season

haha…A new coach might get hard on him and bring out his best!…He is so creative I like him in there, I just yearn for 6-8 marks a game 2-3 contested and once every now and then a really hard, high leaping contested ripper! Having said that he times leads well but if we ignore the first he seems lost and ambles around with his hand in the air……Ken needs to go back to being a coach not a father figure……how the rest of the year pans out could well determine his opportunities once he moves on from Port at the end of the year also…
I put him in the Dan Mcstay bracket as opposed to the Tall forwards I mentioned above and Dan came out the other week and suggested he only now (26, 144 games) feels like he belongs….and there’s talk about his value on the free agency market (although I think a lot of that is over inflated) ….a new coach will definitely work with him until his contract runs out…..

Does the AFL have a worthy challenger for Melbourne?

It was definitely a hard game to cop, the attitude smacked of complacency and that was the most disappointing thing for me from a group that had yet to achieve anything. We were also bullied by their deep pool of more experience mids…….and then we rocked up this year with coaches telling us we’re going to expand our mids but they kept dropping the names of and putting that pressure on our promising kids
We have struggled up forward not just due to the omissions but also the fact we didn’t change how we moved it forward to suit the players there…..in the end we stopped moving it forward at all! I’m sure Dixon would appreciate we implemented an offensive game plan that moved the footy quickly, recognised, used and encouraged taught leading patterns as opposed to banging it on his head and hoping he marks it or brings it to ground….might prolong his career.
Marshall is an interesting case and before I show him some leeway I will mention my patience is also running out! But he is 24 this year, most top 10 KPF break out around year 3 or 4, although he is first round it was late and how much development is missed whilst grieving the loss of parents? Lets say 2 years, he’s contracted until the end of 2024 I think he adds value as a 2nd KPF but if he hasn’t developed to a point where he can cover as the #1……..because at this point Ollie will be ready (hopefully have a few games under the belt….I’m a fan of his) and Dixon will be gone , maybe (I’m not including Finlayson as I think he’s a sook and until I see something I like I’ll consider him depth, yes even behind Marshall!)….Dante I really like, you are right about the mongrel and 93kegs already suggests he could put on size easier than the other two but I expect he will be around the 2024 mark to hit his straps…that should mean Hayes has had a year or two with Lycett and potentially one as the #1…..
Our midfield going forward should be ok for a while even without Boaky….although we have loaded up on flankers that can get clearances, it’s an easy area to trade for in the future….
I get nervous looking at our backs, we have been so well served by Jonas and Clurey we drafted Pasini who’s under sized and got Skinner who is a better size but injuries have seemed to leave him slow and immobile…..we need to draft someone soon who can stand the Kings, Blakey, L Mcdonald, De Koning(x2), Thrillthorpe and I think Freo got a tall kid with mobility to burn this year….and I’m sure there’s more (I think over the least 5 years we have upped the steroids’ in milk and produced a glut of 200cm rubber men!)
I share your optimism (I’m as bad as Ken when it comes to Marshall and would add him to your mix though!) and possibly we needed a year like this (although it’s very early) No finals, long preseason, new coach….and players fired up for 2023…..this year we need to get games into a few second third year kids for a look and their development, and not rush back Dixon, Fantasia etc….let’s get them absolutely right…….
The future should always look good…..

Does the AFL have a worthy challenger for Melbourne?

This is not how I wanted his debut to go (as you know) but I’m sure he’ll take it!
Any chance of rain (lots of rain) in Melb Sunday arvo?

Does the AFL have a worthy challenger for Melbourne?

Yeh I think from what I’ve seen of selection so far he is in, we definitely need another tall down there against the Blues…….personally I would throw Finlayson back as he is more mobile (or at least appears to be), Lycett, if he plays, goes forward (for muscle and to stretch the blues) and Hayes has to come in and ruck (surely….), that leaves Skinner out….
The Blues aren’t just tall they are all mobile and ready to go also Hewitt from what I’ve seen is a ripper…….I just don’t see how we win this game, hopefully I’m wrong!

Does the AFL have a worthy challenger for Melbourne?

So who are we handing the April flag to , Dees or Cams Tigers! haha…..
The Dees are out in front at the moment no doubt there, Lions are main challenger at this stage for mine

The blues had their wake up call last week there’s no way they drop this one, and conversely there’s no way Port can get up in this one!
While Alir is back, and is a huge in, he can’t cover Curnow, Mckay and intercept, we are still very vulnerable to marks inside 50 against height..made even harder by the ease at which we concede coast to coast passages after a point…
Pittonet might yet be cancelled out by Lycett missing…..I almost hope he does as it’s seems the only way our selectors will give Hayes a run (BS)…edit-oh cr*p I thought Pitt was out not in! That does make it harder….
I hoping we can throw more caution to the wind and it’s a bit of a high scoring game, close would be nice to…….our endeavor and effort last week helped the final margin flatter us and it is, as always, the only non negotiable (for the players), Carn Port (good luck Macca)
