I really cannot overstate my dislike for Eddie Jones. Horrific mismanagement from a legitimate meglomaniac.

If I felt like this would at least start a major restructure & cleanout at RA, I’d at least see a small silver-lining, but I really just can’t see that happening. At most I’d expect a largely symbolic sacrifical lamb or two then back to business as usual.

Honestly just disgusted.

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

Completely agree. I’d also say while he is no longer a constant game-breaker like Walsh or Ponga, he’s likely one of the strongest defenders and more than serviceable in attack which is fine in a team filled with strike-players.

I feel that far too much emphasis is being put on a few poor plays in Origin (genuinely his first in 5+ years) and too much blame is being put on him for the Roosters being an absolute rabble for half the year.

Add in the fact that he’s the incumbent captain who had a very solid run in our World Cup win, I really don’t see any issue with giving him one last run to prove his worth. Either way, it’s likely his last run in the national team barring a massive few games.

It‘s actually shocking that Rugby still has as many fans as it does given the mismanagement. What an incredibly weird comment to make on what is likely the biggest fan-based rugby page in Australia.

COMMENT: Kumbaya to chaos - if RA's boss is throwing in the towel so early, what exactly are we doing in France?

Despite a relatively small sample-size, Kellaway is a proven, solid performer at national level and it’s honestly crazy he hasn’t featured so far.
He’s been left out partly due to flip-of-the-coin selections overall and partly due to the fact that we needed a goal-kicker at 15 (which is also driven by crazy selection).
Honestly not much else to say at this point.

Personally I feel that the “Hooper is past it” comments were massively overblown. Yes, he wasn’t at his absolute best but he was still more than serviceable and had his fantastic Hooper-moments. He is less than 2 years removed from being a World Player of the Year finalist and was also clearly carrying a few niggling injuries throughout the season. You’d be a very brave man to bet that he couldn’t get back to near his best form over a relatively short tournament likely playing only a handful of the games.
.
Even if he was largely there as injury cover and only started against Georgia / Portugal, surely having that sort of experience in an extremely young squad is genuinely invaluable. I just don’t see any plausible argument against at least having him in the squad, particularly given some of the very “left-field” – some would say wild or undeserving – choices that Eddie made.

'F---ing explain some of these decisions': Ex-Wallaby star's scathing Eddie critique, coach defends vision

With the right selections we were in the box seat for a semi-finals appearance given our soft draw. I just can’t get my head around the logic of clearing out the team BEFORE the World Cup. The peripheral benefits of a decent showing (public interest etc.) are just too large and the best teams have a mix of experience AND youth.

We have 4 years to prepare for the next World Cup. But we’re also playing in one right now and the fans have every right to expect to see the best players RIGHT NOW, not the players who will be the best in 4 years.

'F---ing explain some of these decisions': Ex-Wallaby star's scathing Eddie critique, coach defends vision

Well, that sucks. Mauls were one of the areas that we very clearly have an advantage over Fiji and Skelton is huge there.

Big game ahead.

Wallabies CONFIRMED: Key Wallabies duo out, Frost back and hooker swap for 'most important match of World Cup'

Such a tough game to call.

Both teams decimated by injuries.

Roosters missing quite literally their entire backline but have some solid, overall mostly first-grade level replacements. Regardless of how decent the replacements are man-for-man, cohesion is likely to be a serious issue in both attack and defence. JWH a huge loss in a game like this.

Storm with just as many outs, but they’re more distributed across the field. They’re likely to dominate through the middle and Munster is no doubt the biggest gamebreaker left on either team (Teddy isn’t there anymore and Walker makes some huge plays but doesn’t “break” a game in the same way).

However Hughes is an absolutely huge loss and even though the Roosters have no backline, their spine is intact and in pretty decent form. If we can at least keep close to parity up front we have some great edge-runners alongside some extremely hungry young-guns who might be able to make some space despite our lack of backline cohesion.

Honestly seems like a ready-made game for someone like Radley to play an absolute blinder.

But overall, can’t deny that the Storm have been a class above all season. Heart says Roosters but head says ever so slightly Storm.

Please, please prove me wrong boys and let’s make it 7 in a row!

Tactical Preview: Teddy and the North Sydney Bears should be a picnic for the Storm - but can the Roosters' D see them home?

Came here to say this.

To be honest, given he just caved in his “mate’s” face with his shoulder, I don’t see how he could have been less remorseful. He was actively remorseless.

Latrell's career may have already peaked unless he can eradicate momentary lapses of discipline

Unless his injury is worse than has been reported, I can’t help but feel that this is a rough decision. The heart and soul of the Wallabies for the best part of a decade, even having him around the squad would surely be massively beneficial.
.
I also definitely felt that reports of his “poor form” were somewhat exaggerated and he’s the type of player who rises to big occasions. Would have been brave to bet against him doing that again at a final World cup. McReight and co. certainly haven’t been terrible, but they haven’t exactly lit the world on fire either despite some great moments.
.
If this is the end, you’ll be missed, Hooper. Absolute legend of the game who physically could not have given more to the Green & Gold.

'You have no control over some things': Hoops' bleak prophecy that played out in ruthless Eddie call - and what comes next

I believe the reference was to our easier draw. Quite a difference having to face any of the top 4 teams right now over England or Argentina. Wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of the top teams had a classic case of ‘playing your final’ in the quarters or semi’s and are mentally & physically beaten for their next game.

The Wrap: A dozen reasons why the Wallabies can’t win the World Cup - and a couple why they might

Ah the classic Don Freo conspiracy theory.

On one hand, you might be right and it’s a NSW conspiracy against WA.

On the other hand, it may be more to do with the fact that they’re all top-tier bowlers and clearly better than Green who is our 4th seamer & all rounder.

Also, wasn’t Cummins also captain when Green took those wickets which just proves there isn’t a conspiracy against him…?

Too bloody good!!! I went to bed when Head was out and thought we had no chance, but what a win to wake up to!

Damn, was going to say ‘I can’t wait to see what Tooly and Jimbo have to say about this one’ but one of them already got here first.

Legend of the game. Supporting the Tahs & Wallabies has been a bit of a health hazard over the last decade but Hooper has been a constant shining light for the fans. Heading to the game tonight and hopefully get to see a well deserved win to finish his Tahs career.

Didn’t you know that betting the field against a long-shot contestant is the height of Rugby knowledge?

Far more enjoyable than hoping that your solid-but-flawed team gives it a good crack.

Rugby News: Hansen's Wallabies taunt - 'easy ride' but can't win RWC - LSL's reason for return, Foley honoured

Sure we’re a long shot, but with our draw a run to the finals isn’t an impossibility and then it’s just one game.

I don’t think it’s quite as impressive as you think it is to bet on the field against the Wallabies when we’re a long shot to begin with. Really proves a level of pessimism rather than any great rugby insight.

Paulo, you’re a big man. Strong man. And nobody has ever had a better comment than this.

Honestly though, top tier comment and the fact I instinctively read it in Trump’s voice makes it even funnier.

I do recall the Broncos having one of the hardest draws over the full season, but in 5 games they’ve played one true contender, the heavily underperforming Cowboys, one over performing middle table team and two easy beats.

No doubt a very solid – potentially very good – team but this is a very, very hot take this early in the season and you’ve misrepresented with the ‘hardest draw’ comment.

Why this year is Broncos' best chance of finally busting premiership drought

'I don't want NRL to be feeder system': Gus fires back in Suaalii slanging match after Robbo blasts 'ridiculous comment'

Love the idea Dutski, but it really does seem like using ‘average age’ is too simplistic given the small sample sizes. You could take out the outliers (although do you define that as 1 or 2 at each extreme?) or some sort of variation on the median age but they’re all too blunt given the size of the squads.

Only way I can really see this working is something around minutes played by each player & age as currently a 5 min cameo = 80 minute players.

Would love to see that plot!

Six-again rule changes add up to bad news for old players: How each NRL team stacks up for average age

That makes absolutely no sense.

Let’s drop the Dally M Winger of the Year for almost 2 entire seasons because he’s leaving after that so that we can play someone who is likely going to be inferior for the entirety of those 2 seasons.

Just because he’s leaving doesn’t mean he can’t provide a lot of value in that time and putting more time into an inferior player doesn’t at all guarantee they will ever become better than Suaalii is even right now (let alone what he will become over the next 2 seasons).

You can doubt it all you like, but it’s an objective fact that Walker and Sua’ali’i are on their rookie contracts. People like you aren’t even worth talking to.

NRL News: Roosters to pounce on Panthers star, Ravalawa admits Mudgee incident 'a bit dumb', Hynes defends mum

See it’s this type of incredibly surface level thinking that makes this such a frustrating discussion to have.

The very, very obvious answer as to why more people want to play for the Broncos is that they are by far the most supported club in all of QLD due to their extremely long history and long term success compared to the 2 other clubs. The Roosters are one of 9 Sydney clubs in an area traditionally known for its support of Rugby Union.

If you don’t take even a second to try and understand stats then no one will take you seriously.

Roosters make rivals envious with poaching power but it’s not their fault other clubs are salary cap dunces

Using logic instead of emotion when talking about the Roosters? We don’t take kindly to your sort around here.

Roosters make rivals envious with poaching power but it’s not their fault other clubs are salary cap dunces

Walker and Suaalii are both on their rookie contracts so absolutely would not be on a “decent wage” in this context. Collins is on the last year of his original Roosters contract which was signed before he was a rep player so also wouldn’t be on anything huge.

That leaves Crichton, Keary, Manu, Radley, Smith and Tedesco which is right at the 6 you discussed. Exactly as many have mentioned, the Roosters (and Storm) are experts at putting a lot of money into some key, proven players and filling out the squad with younger players or journeymen. Honestly the conspirary theories are just so dumb and always have incorrect information or unfounded assumptions at their core.
