I think the selection of Leota over Swinton causes backrow issues. Swinton is the ruck animal and gets through loads of ruck work and tackles on the defensive side.

Because he’s not there that workload is being picked up by Valetini who is no-longer carrying. Leota just doesn’t have the work-rate we need from 6 and despite being okay around the field i’m not sure why Rennie keeps selecting him.

Swinton’s card risk is worth the return IMO.

Wallabies vs Scotland: Did I see what I needed to see?

Not sure what the point of these test matches have been. USA and Wales always lose to the ABs. What’s the point in them playing the ABs understrength?

Test match rugby is suffering at the moment. Aligned season desperately needed.

Barrett stars as All Blacks destroy Wales with breathtaking finale and leapfrog Boks at No. 1

I get your point but… the teams you mentioned almost never play each other

MEDIA REACTION: All Blacks in 'Harlem Globetrotter mode', Wales a 'sorry rabble'

ABs have never been big on set plays or any of that jazz. Just wait for the turnover.

Even against Aus he didn’t look that flash. Made to look good by the brilliance around him.

Actually the world rugby regulations explicitly state they have to be released and that we can force them to release them.

'They were nervous': Rennie confirms Kerevi, McMahon, Hodge OUT of spring tour and serious doubt over Quade

No Wallabies eh? Just one example but Kerevi walks into a combined team. Comprehensively outplayed de Allende twice and is certainly better than Havili who seems to offer very little and is the worst back in the ABs team outside Bridge.

MATCH REPORT: Springboks edge All Blacks in one of the GREATEST Tests

Don’t worry. With the limit of 15 minutes of contact training in place, no player will ever suffer an injury again.

Time wasting hurts more than just rugby's spectacle

He has.

Sarries actually develop players (albeit outside the cap rules).

Three more overseas players set to join Wallabies on spring tour as Giteau Law sidestepped

Id argue that, on the contrary, we are unlikely to garner many more views while the NRL and AFL are rolling out their finals series. Our best viewing figures were actually the French series when not much else was happening.

I agree we broadly need more content but I’m not that fussed if we don’t try to compete directly.

Outside of that we are constrained by the international nature of test match rugby. Though an NRC running concurrent with the test season is, in my opinion, an absolute must. Though i doubt NRC will draw many eyes.

Note to administrators: Rugby is no longer an amateur game

I’m quite confused. For one, there was the three test series against France so that’s eight tests thus far. Then, Super Rugby is a fully professional competition including matches against New Zealand. So you have next to a hundred matches on show over winter.

I suppose i agree that we need more and i advocate for the reintroduction of the NRC as a 3rd tier.

But… i don’t think that’s what you are complaining about in this article?

Note to administrators: Rugby is no longer an amateur game

Mostert was being played at blindside. SA have their numbers for blind and openside opposite ours.

Kolisi was playing at ‘7’ for them.

'Not worthy of the Springboks jersey': 'Sorry' coach's brutal honesty after 'worst' game since 2018

Wilson should come straight in for Swinton IMO – having said that Rennie is clearly a big fan. I think he likes that Swinton plays close to the line with his physicality.

15 is a problem. Who in the squad has played there in the last few years? no one. Kellaway and O’Connor both have experience there but a long time ago.

'We want to get the country behind us': Everything Rennie said about beating Boks, JOC return

I think deep down its not hatred of the Springboks but hatred of the god awfulstate of the rolling maul at the moment.

A slow, un-stoppable obstruction in which you are literally not allowed to tackle the ball carrier even if you legally get to him. It’s the very antithesis of rugby. The tiny bit of yin in the yang.

Why I don't understand the Springboks hate

The problem is actually very easy to identify and it’s the lack of a 3rd tier domestic comp. If you aren’t playing professional rugby you aren’t developing – it’s that simple. No development and we have no top line players.

Given the political, financial and geographical constrains it’s a very difficult issue to resolve, though.

Frankly – I’d be bending over for Twiggy. Get him to fund an NRC somehow. Or, i suppose, sell a stake to a multi-national private equity firm (a la All Blacks).

Emergency back-up, send our boys over to compete in the NPC.

'We can’t sugarcoat this': Bring it in tight, Australian rugby

We’ve had more possession and territory in every game we’ve played in the last 6 years. It’s not a positive thing.

We are easy to defend against and even easier to score against when we make inevitable mistakes.

It’s like we are the only country that hasn’t realised rugby is first and foremost about defence.

Wallabies need an urgent injection of composure ahead of Springboks and Pumas

Personally i think the answer is to just not play NZ at all.

What nation could play NZ as much as we do and compete? none, is the answer.

South Africa’s record against NZ is even worse than ours (surprisingly) at both SR and test level. They’ve won twice since 2010.

NZ are in a class of their own and playing them makes no sense.

'That's not great for the competition': Ex-All Blacks skipper's dire prediction for Aussie Super teams

I thought the tactic of sitting off the breakdown worked very well. They didn’t really build too much positive play off the back of their own ball. It was (as usual) counterattacking that let them carve us up.

To address the counterattacking issue we need to be more accurate – not a tactical issue.

The Wrap: Fast-finishing Wallabies earn respect but Bledisloe Cup remains elusive

Weird comment. Paisami made some key errors but even in doing so was our best backline player which shows you what the rest are bringing.

Agree with 2.

Bell better than Tupou? what. Tupou doesn’t demolish scrums at test level but he is still a monster and had cluch plays in our last win against NZ and in both our wins against France.

I thought neither backrow had a huge influence on the game. They all had minimal impact and were fairly quiet.

Kellaway played extremely well and, as far as I can remember, didn’t make any mistake? Petaia was absent and will be replaced with MK.

The Wrap: Fast-finishing Wallabies earn respect but Bledisloe Cup remains elusive

It was definitely a factor but wind, Eden Park and previous form suggest it was a blip rather than something we can expect more of from Noah.

The Wrap: Fast-finishing Wallabies earn respect but Bledisloe Cup remains elusive

Two games at Eden Park is a foregone conclusion. At least the footy was a little more entertaining than the Lions tour I guess. But damn, they need to work on the fixture list.

RC with Fiji and Japan and only one game a year against the ABs would be my choice. Constant games against NZ don’t help us.

The Wrap: Fast-finishing Wallabies earn respect but Bledisloe Cup remains elusive

It always comes crashing down against the All Blacks. Wish we just played them the mandatory 2 times, and i wish it wasn’t always in a row right at the start of the season. It’s a real momentum killer.

Swintons breakdown work was immaculate, the exact area we got dominated in game 1-2. He will walk back into 6.
