Hoisted on my father's shoulders in 1982 to watch the Springboks versus the Jaguars from South America, I was transformed into a rugby nut. I pity the poor souls who have never been exposed to the sport.

As a South African, I love that Rassie and his motley bunch have gone under the radar. Never deserving of a mention are any of his deputies and the massive influence the coaching team has had in turning the old ship that is South African rugby. Eddie Jones doesn’t have any of the challenges that Rassie has. He doesn’t answer to any politics, has money to burn and call on his best players whenever he wants. yes yes, this is not the same as the actual tactics on the field and the ‘genius’ that it takes in defeating the AB’s but hey, nothing Rassie hasn’t achieved already.

Spiro, this is knock out tournament rugby. It will almost always be void of the razzmatazz that we see in other tournaments or in the round robin stages. Tournament rugby is absolutely fascinating in its titanic battle. I hope you enjoy the final.

Eddie Jones has performed a coaching master class for the ages

Just last week I dealt with an employee who was kicked out of his home by his parents because he told them he was gay. The shame written all over his face as he described how his life fell apart was something to behold. But hey, you call BS on this.
So here we are in the 20th century trying to learn how to to simply be mensch. How to deal with each other with an element of kindness, empathy and understand that previous generations were unwilling and unable to do. I would go so far as to say that these are Christian virtues…but hey evidently not. Israel’s concept of what being a good person is about is something else clearly.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

Look its your money but if you want a worthwhile cause to support then donate some cash to the bereft single women of the Cape Flats who have to bring their children up out abject poverty under the most extremely violent conditions…or you can donate money to a multimillionaire who was as a condition of his employment, given a stern warning against the very behaviour which he persisted with.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

Im South Africa and I loved it.. we generally behaved poorly during the sandpaper gate saga ….so a bit of hubris from the Aussies is well deserved.

South Africa: The new minnows of the World Cup

Natural justice has nothing to do with the debate. It means that he is offered the chance to be heard and to face his accusers. He had that chance in his hearing with his lawyers next to him.

Israel Folau has been unfairly hounded out of Australian rugby

So let’s examine Folau’s message. One would have to surely assume that the concept of hell is that of common understanding. Accordingly, the average sinner faces the most extreme torture on a daily basis- for eternity. There’s no way getting out of the treatment that hell’s greatest think-tanks have in store for you. The Gestapo and Isis have nothing on hells demons… Israel Falau actively wants humans to suffer eternal agony beyond human comprehension because after all, that’s what his God wants after all, God is all powerful and all knowing and did nothing to prevent this gayness that you may have been born with. For Israel this is as a real a conclusion to sinning as I am sitting writing this… In his wealthied cotton wool brain, does he have any concept of suffering. If so, how could he possibly think like this.

I did… Saders player passes on the line. Saders players clasps it out of the air 2 meters pst the half way line…. wait wait…. we must all watch the direction of the flapping hands… it’s the hands I tell you!!

Stormers draw with Crusaders in thriller

Yeah that makes sense. we were not the worlds number one team for 90 years with two world cups to boot without an extraordinary conspiracy among the world refereeing fraternity to make us win matches we would otherwise have lost. World sports greatest conspiracy.

Etihad was not the employer- RA is the employer. If Etihad wants to allow a homophobic murderer on their plane than that’s their prerogative. Etihad does not have to comply with International Labour Organisation standards as Australian employers have obligated themselves to do.
From another perspective, could he have practiced his faith without making that comment on Twitter? Of course he could have. He placed his team mates in a precarious position- so too his employer’s. Now he will want money and lots and lots of money. Good riddance to him.

By the ‘in relation to the two players’ argument logic, then if the passing player is abruptly stopped – say by a tackle- and cannot continue the run, then and only then the ball would be forward. So too, what would the argument be if that angle of pass was from a static position being the base of the scrum? The first point of reference is always the angle of the pass in relation to the direction of the passing player.

Where Ennor was when the ball was received is completely irrelevant.

I simply can’t understand what the fuss is about. ‘Forward’ by definition means moving in the direction that the advancing player is moving… and one of the principle rules in rugby is that passes must go in a backward motion from the passing player. So last night we had the Crusaders player passing exactly on the half way line. When his team mate receives it with his hands outstretched, that player is well ahead of that same half way line. Easy. There are two screenshots doing the rounds which prove the point. Don’t be fooled by looking at where the hands are pointed out keeping an eye on the passing player who carries on running ahead to give the impression that the pass is behind him. It is the point of the pass and the point of the catch…draw a line between the two and you will see it was a forward pass.

a very enjoyable read

Sharks search for their White Whale

Im really looking forward to seeing the Bulls in action. They have been quietly going on with their business in the off season having been one of the only Unions to declare a profit at the end of their financial year- despite the poor results.

Unpacking Super Rugby: South African conference

A really detailed analysis off what happened in that game. Well done. I look forward to more articles.

my goodness this is turning out to be entertaining

Israel Folau cops backlash for gay marriage tweet

Stunning piece but disagree with what was said about the Lions scrum. The Crusaders prop dropped his bind the entire game and it was only around the 65th minute mark that Peyper got wind of it.

Warwick, thats a disgusting comment. Only you know what motivated it. Gave yourself an uppercut

Well….this is is exactly what I tell myself when I wake up in the middle of the night bathed in sweat….

Is Meyer foxing the vulnerable Wallaby?

Those players had such a lovely respect for attacking the gap. Long arching runs and candy hipped swerves. Beautiful to watch and its a pity the world didn’t get to see more of some of those names.

Wasn't rugby supposed to be a gentleman's game?

I think you answered your own question

It's not the injustice that beats us, its the way we respond

Tane, I’m actually one of the most liberal people that you would ever wish to meet and I think that my attitude towards my opposition rugby supporter makes me a more likeable fan than your comments suggest. You can behave in whatever you want but keep in mind to whom your behaviour is directed. Im no saint but I like to think of myself as as the opposition rugby fan that you want to sit next to when you take your wife and child along to the game. I also like to think that the point i’m making is that we should probably consider the lowest common denominator (for lack of a better term) in the way that we behave, be that in the comfort of our home or in the stadium. The question that we should ask ourselves is, is our behaviour appropriate to the children reading this forum or watching from the stands or being introduced to the game for the first time? The fathers who have to overcome convincing worried moms about the danger that the sport exposes their young sons to nowadays also have to try and convince those same moms that taking their youngsters to the game will be an exposure to the right environment with the right virtues and right values. We, the supporters are the custodians of these values to the next generation and if sports such as a karate can do it, so can we.

I think they were sponsored by Yellow Pages – hence the trim but the retention of the black was for obvious reasons.
