Interesting read. Communication is essential between referee & player to positively develop that relationship.
These days it seems a lot of referees are attempting to be authoritarians and are lacking in self awareness and emotional intelligence, which never goes down well with footballers.
Sounds like the Brisbane referees you refer to were reluctant to ask questions because they’re used to a learning environment in which they are dictated to by leadership. Told what to do, with little room for self discovery.
