Yeah, I’ve no idea exactly when. Ideally itd happen befote the nz tests, but thats not going to happen. So maybe after t20 and NZ tests, take the best performers our of shield and play against Aus. Sure this is extra pressure on the test players, but after that it’s not like there is a lot of test cricket for a long while.

I think an Australia Vs Australia A series would be fantastic. Give the best performers a chance at the test side, be a great litmus test

Does it? I don’t think anyone is under any illusion or dis-illusion the test side is supposed to be the best test bowlers in the country, but this isnt saying anything about standards is it? he is saying “we” are all fresh and don’t contemplate any of us not bowling. idk, if I was a younger bowler looking to break in it must be a bit daunting perhaps even demoralising that even boland can’t get a bowl at the moment.

I admire Pats support of the current bowlers, but yeah this really doesn’t help any test prospects does it.

Warner could fail in each of Perth and Melbourne and he’d still get the Sydney test… if they haven’t dropped him yet, they aren’t going to now.

Many people (including myself) have been calling for Warner’s removal for a while now from the test opener position, his form in red ball cricket has not warranted him keeping his position (white ball is a different thing)…. but as others have pointed out, he doesn’t pick himself, the selectors do and they keep picking him so you can blame him necessarily… I don’t see why they do personally, and I’d really have preferred we brought in a new opener a whole while back and give them plenty of Australian based tests to settle in…. but that isn’t the case. Many will argue he should quit himself, and others will say he has a right to continue to play if he is picked, I don’t know if there is a right answer there, the thing with Warner is he has tremendous self belief so he probably believes he can and is still delivering in some fashion.

Yeah. Bancroft looks again like the form opener. Surely needs to be in line, followed by Renshaw. Well passed time for Davey to move aside.
Personally, right now, how Neser isn’t in the test side is astounding. Bloke is bowling so well and batting the house down.
Aus really needs to look at its pace attack and prepare for the next cycle.
Hardie also should be given some more opportunities. I see him more as a batter who can bowl some quality overs, but he performs.

I really rate Turner, he seems like he can deliver in the tight situations.
Also, if Carey plays (which is likely) then Inglis could come in for Maxwell as well.

I dont mind this team, but note Smith usually bats 3 in ODI (though I think maybe Marsh could benefit from batting 3 and perhaps for Smith it doesnt matter as much?), Id have Hazlewood over Cummins (Hoff is I think still the leading ODI bowler) and Inglis over Carey (others may disagree).

His ashes campaign was poor, wasn’t even in the top 10 run scorers.. agree 100% it is no basis for his WC inclusion.

A decent ashes campaign for Warner?? Were they watching the same games us the rest of us??!
Guy wasn’t even in the top 10 run scorers… cant use his ashes form to justify his WC inclusion noting his white ball form has been better than his red ball form.

Drop Green at your own WA sourced peril!!! Lol. All jokes aside, Green could play a role and could provide some decent alternative bowling options. My concern with Carey is, yes he has more experience, but in England he looked shot at the crease and while white ball is different… there is something to the fact that form carries over.

Aus needs two new openers, at least 1 very soon and one pretty soon thereafter. Renshaw, Bancroft seems likely to me. Maybe Ward and Hunt as well on a longer timescale.
If the aus selectors were sensible they’d fairwell Warner now and bring in someone to bat with ussie.
We will also need a new no.4 soon, chances are smith will want to move on. Maybe that could be Cam Green, maybe not. It could also possibly be Pucovski. Will need to see.
We need some new bowlers to come through. Cummins still has the years for a bit yet, but Hazlewood seems fragile and Starc is getting old. So at least 2 new quicks- there is talent there, e.g jhye richardson, lance Morris.
And we may also need a keeper. Carey kept well at the start but got a bit poorer as the series went on, and his numbers with the bat left a lot to be desired. If his batting numbers continue to decline, they may need to locate the next best gloveman who can bat, maybe that’s Peirson or Inglis. Personally I’d love to see Inglis batting in white ball now, and maybe have peirson ready for red ball…

but then why play Bancroft (do we think this will legit be a step above shield)? Or Labuschange in the one-dayer, he has exposure there… and not say play Hunt in the 4-day. I suppose, I just see clear logic but it isnt my call!

I agree Don, doesnt make any sense. They didnt play, youd think they would want to get as much quality cricket into the guys asap

It’s one innings, Smith will get an extended run there…the tricky part will be if he doesn’t prosper after an extended run and then what happens. Partly it’ll depend on Greens form at 4. If he is owning it, that’d make it easy…. if he isn’t….then it becomes harder to manage.
