You’re right. Jezza was Captain/Coach in ’79. As a Blues supporter, I can’t believe I overlooked the great man. To make matters even worse, I was at the game. Thanks for jolting my memory.

Malthouse just wouldn’t play him. If there were other issues, I’m not aware of them. He and Eddie Betts were valued members of the side under Brett Ratten. They were a formidable combination. Malthouse’s tenure at the club was an absolute disaster.

I’m a Blues supporter and I think you’d find that Jeff Garlett had a problem with Mouldhouse, not the club. He wasn’t the only one either. Marc Murphy is one who springs to mind immediately. Unfortunately, he, (Garlett), got himself into a bit of strife after an altercation at a bar somewhere. The club ended up trading him to Melbourne.

I still believe that Jack Carroll can hold down 1 wing. Something maybe worth trying in the off season…Jack Martin on the other wing. Release the shackles and let him run. Try Brodie Kemp across half forward. If nothing else, Sam Walsh can
cover the other wing, aswell as any other midfield role.

Geelong is regional…not metro Melbourne. Not yet anyway. Despite the collapse of Pyramid Building Society in the late 80’s, (former Cat David Clarke one of the central figures), and the closure of the Ford plant, the city of Geelong continues to thrive, so too does the footy club. Their, (G.F.C) wings spread far and wide across south western and central Victoria. They’re the only Victorian club not based here in Melbourne.

Didn’t he also have a brief stint at Melbourne…as a player? As for his 90-odd games for North Melbourne, only 1 stands out…and for all the wrong reasons. 1987, Lords. He king hit Ian Aitken and broke his jaw. Back in the early 70’s, when Barassi took over at Nth, he had the added advantage of the 10 year rule. All of a sudden, the likes of Doug Wade, John Rantall, Barry Davis and Stan Alves jumped on board. No such luck this time around.

I don’t support either side but watched the last quarter…albeit after having consumed a few Friday night after work beers. As far as I could tell, through cloudy beer goggles, Warner kicked the ball into the crowd after the final siren…in celebration of a victory. He might not have even been aware of the free paid to Prestia. How can a penalty be awarded after the completion of a game…or quarter? If I’m wrong, I stand corrected.

I was referring the the midfield as a cohesive unit. They’ve been performing pretty well together…to say the least. It’s a good position to be in, with players the calibre of Dow unable to get a game. When he does get his chance, I hope that he does take his game to the next level, just as Kennedy has.

Cottrell is a try hard. David Cuningham has poise and class. Unfortunately, as we, (Carlton supporters), have seen, he is injury prone. As for Dow? Why f@#ck around with what is currently a cohesive unit? I liken Jack Carroll to Kade Simpson. The latter having started on a wing, later to hold down a spot across the half back line…with distinction. Let’s not forget the 300 plus games that Kade Simpson played. That’s not to say that Jack Carroll will get anywhere near the heights that Kade Simpson reached. However, I can see him following a similar path.

As a lifelong Blues supporter, it’s now encouraging to not only follow them, but to actually watch them live. The keyboard hacks…faceless journos…are still delving into Carlton’s weaknesses. They can’t see the new found belief and positive energy amongst the playing group. There’s still that negativity attached to Michael Voss’s tenure at the Brisbane Lions. He’s 10 rounds in as a senior coach…albeit the 2nd time around… with an 8-2 record. STFU!!!
