Cricket. And numbers.

Great article. He does seem to have a slight attitude problem at worst, or a poor relationship with Root at best. The picture of him riding around the ground on a segway, still in his tracksuit, while Root is walking off from tossing the coin in blazer & whites is pretty damning, in my opinion.

Jofra Archer is not the quick fix England crave

Colin De Grandhomme test batting average is 40.3 and his test bowling average is 29.6. Both of these are superior to Ben Stokes (35.9 and 33.5 respectively. CDGH; second best all-rounder in the world after Jason Holder, who has been a beast over the last two years.

Analysing each member of New Zealand’s Test squad

A great deal of people prior to this 1st England Test.

Two players offer Kiwis an edge over Australia – neither are Kane Williamson

Darwin too. Could allow us test matches in the Australian winter, and aligns with CA’s indigenous strategy.

The blind leading the blind: Australian cricket follows Rugby Australia into oblivion

I get frustrated when people criticise Paine but offer no viable alternative. It’s so lazy.

Whisper it, but Australia finally have Test XI again which picks itself

Shaun Marsh 😊

Whisper it, but Australia finally have Test XI again which picks itself

This article is very angry. I agree the Gabba crowds should be better, but why not try to look for the root causes of the low attendance and solve them? Marketing? Logistics to the ground? Scheduling? More excitement or activities needed at the ground (eg. they got rid of the pool but Milo cricket maybe)? A charity day like the Sydney pink day? There are plenty of options to explore before just giving up.

Strip international cricket from the Gabba

Great article – beat me to it! We are definitely underestimating New Zealand. Latham is also one of the best test openers in the world at the moment. He was one of the shining lights of NZ’s tour of Sri Lanka – scores of 154, 30 and 45.

Two players offer Kiwis an edge over Australia – neither are Kane Williamson

Could you go with Marnus over Nicholls? I think I would in Australia….just. But this is an interesting exercise.

Two players offer Kiwis an edge over Australia – neither are Kane Williamson

It’s a stretch to compare away series to India and Sri Lanka with an away series in Australia. Very different conditions.

Two players offer Kiwis an edge over Australia – neither are Kane Williamson

Agree with this. Stokes is a great player, but is overrated. Consider how Stokes is talked about (“one of the best ever!!!!!”) with a Test batting average of 35.5 and Test bowling average of 32.7. Compare that to Chris Woakes (27.9 & 31.2) and Sam Curran (30.1 & 29.0). Both these guys are in and out of the team, barely spoken about.

Can we cool it about Cameron Green?

Because he is trolling you. Just leave it.

Australian selectors should toss conventional thinking for Tests this summer

The way Burns has been handled by selectors is a clear example of their muddled thinking. He probably deserved to be in the Ashes squad and wasn’t picked. He doesn’t deserve his spot now, based on form, yet has been picked. Harris is the incumbent, is averaging 53 in the shield this season, yet he’s passed over in favour of Burns and Bancroft. Very strange.

Burns is running out of time to cement a Test spot

This article is very strange.

The one question that reveals whether someone would make a great captain

Very interesting. I like the idea of Neser at the Gabba too.

Burns, Head and Neser deserved their Test call ups

Paine and Khawaja averaged so high in the 2017/18 home Ashes??

Burns, Head and Neser deserved their Test call ups

Strongly disagree that Harris should have been dropped. He is averaging 53 in the shield this season and is the incumbent. Many players struggled in England, not just him. He should be the opener with the flexible Burns as the spare batsmen. Bancroft should be back in WA working on his form. I like Bancroft and I’m excited that he’s going back to captain Durham in 2020. He’ll have his opportunities.

Burns, Head and Neser deserved their Test call ups

White ball batting performances generally don’t transfer to test cricket. See: Jason Roy in the Ashes, Aaron Finch vs India last summer, Jonny Bairstow’s test batting decline since he was selected as ODI opener.

Breaking down the Australian Test squad selections

Great stuff. He’ll get more much needed experience against the swinging Dukes, which is his weakness. If he can perform in England on this two-year deal it gives him the best chance to push for a spot in the 2023 Ashes team.

Aussie Handscomb gets Middlesex captaincy

Love this.

The resurgence of a forgotten quick

Okie dokie.

Australia needs to plan for its wicketkeeping future

He needs more time. Hopefully will go back to Sussex and play more First Class cricket there too.

Australia needs to plan for its wicketkeeping future

Yeah, more about wicketkeepers batting I suppose.

Australia needs to plan for its wicketkeeping future

Sounds like an opportunity to write an article about wicketkeeping!

Australia needs to plan for its wicketkeeping future

It isn’t that perplexing – a huge quantity of games at those NT venues would not break-even. Big name cricketers also have a pretty full calendar these days with international t20 leagues. I would love to see an NT team though! If we added an extra team or two, an additional opportunity could be bringing in one international signing per side to strengthen the quality.
