With Itoje being the exception

The Thursday rugby two-up: Untimely injuries

Conor is a weak choice as a player and captain. I thought he had a bad game against Japan although I only watched the first half. I would deffo work harder if Itoje got on my case. Captaincy might mature him and reduce penalties.
Lawes is an exceptional second row but an average wing forward. Agree about Beard vs Hill.
I didn’t watch the second half of Japan game expecting a cricket score so was shocked to see they outscored the Lions after the break. I am not too impressed having Sarries players in the squad. Playing easy rugby week in week out is not good prep for Bok.

The Thursday rugby two-up: Untimely injuries

Before this weekend I thought none of your teams had a chance. But I was surprised. Brumbies came close so they have a good chance against a few NZ teams. Force could certainly win one. Tahs exposed Canes’ weaknesses. Its easier to shore up defence then learn how to score tries. The only team that was absolutely shocking was Rebels IMO.

Australian rugby's new pyramid (scheme)

Heck 90% of the Welsh rugby team are very average once they go back to their clubs.

Both teams were bad hence the large scoreline

One might argue back in amateur days you had to make a choice. But with a professional sport who isn’t extremely fit? Thats the minimum a man brings to work every day. The rest is coaching. The successful sides have great coaches who make their players work with each other.
Fiji is the classic example of a team with so much quality that refuses to play with each other. Time and time again they take the ball into one too many contacts and make desperate choices. Yet these individuals turn into decent team players when in a good coaching environment. All of the great teams use every man. Sarries, Exeter, Saders to name a few. Exeter is still the classic example. They had so many no-namers. Very few selected for national team yet they worked so well together and won so much.

Why Australian rugby needs to bring back the footy player

Ridiculous.
It doesn’t take much genius, brains or courage to be so stupid.
And very dangerous.

CLUB ROAR VIDEO OF WEEK: Highschool tackle is 100% the Hit of the Decade

I’m in US.\
Why can’t we view many of the videos?

Rugby's fastest man literally goes quicker than Usain Bolt for insane try

Every year Southern Hemisphere says the same. And every year we find new brilliance. One might argue if it weren’t for the constant culling of those who now need a decent paycheck the scene might be congested with little room for new talent. And when there is less chance for newbies they stop trying and the pool diminishes. Keep up the good work New Zealand in particular. Everything points to NZ having great systems for developing new talent. The most important being the depth of provincial rugby. I particularly enjoy NPC/Mitre10. This is a great product and deserves better support. BUT NZ has a small population. They need to sell that product abroad.

Six talking points from Super Rugby Round 14

He should be allowed to continue playing. Just like all media does these days, simply assert the views of blah blah do not represent the organization. One might argue we need extremists out there as a gauge on how the public feel, and also as a way to show how shameful their views are.

Folau's contract officially torn up by RA, but court challenge looms likely

Quade and Frisby both class players.
One has to bow to Thorn’s understanding of the situation.
UK needs to snap them up.
They both have that ‘x’ factor. Stop trying to always pigeon hole players. Work off them. They create so many opportunities for others.

Cooper 'not part' of Queensland plans

NH is definitely catching up. The style and tactics have finally changed. SH, with so many fewer people to pick from, must stay ahead of the game and always be reinventing ideas and tactics. One only has to follow the total domination of SH during NH period of ‘grunt’ rugby and ‘hoof and hope’. SH invented the offload and keeping ball alive with its unpredictability. NH getting there but still a few years behind. People don’t realize that playing the fast offload game with players reading what is in front of them can take a generation to master. ABs and Aus are excellent exponents of this. Bok are a sad case. They have not caught up with the latest styles because Coetzee refuses to acknowledge it. Even though he only has to look to Lions for proof of concept. Bok are a lost cause. They are exactly where England was some 10 yrs ago. One win every now and again, or close finish, and the usual ‘mealy mouthed platitudes’ spew forth. The pundits will use any reasons to suggest it will get better if only they are…..’more this’, more that,….(fill in the blanks) The journalists still want to talk about Bok according to their ‘overpowering’ a team. Newsflash….SA can no longer be bully boys and expect to run through opposition. Don’t blame the players. They have quality, it is just used poorly and inconsistently. Just look at stats if your eyes don’t make you believe.

The north beats the south in weekend rugby

Jones is correct about the lackluster, unadventurous game played by English in their win. Where was he baiting Chelka?
I have alot more respect for a coach like Jones than Coetzee who will never admit his tactics are bad.

Jones furious after England win in lead-up to Wallabies Test

Agree. Terrible Aus performance.
Stats all in their favor yet so underwhelming and lacking any adventure or ideas out of the ‘dead boring’ bag of tricks.

Australia vs England: Rugby League World Cup highlights, live scores, blog

I could see there was a respectable crowd in the shade. If Aus going to be this bad every year its time to build a stadium with A/C. I don’t expect your temps to get any better in next 20 yrs. Better plan now.

Thanks for the reply and info. Aussies are one of the most sports mad people. . I knew Union was not #1…your league is the best. I always tell my union kids I coach to go to Aus and play league. Two did and found they were not such hotshots. I’m in Houston TX so I know heat. Ideally this tourney should have been in an area with less heat. You guys have had some seriously hot years. Interesting that soccer is on the rise, but not unexpected given the proclivity of today’s youth. TV at home vs live event is the biggest issue today. We’ll have to find the answer so professional sport can flourish.

Shame on Aussies. Quality players out there. Something is seriously wrong with union support over there, What is it?

Correct Ned. Who has the money? I’ve been around this scene for 25yrs and there is no hope of getting money for something that can’t get on TV let alone get a crowd. I’ve met most of the money men here in Houston and they have never given any money to rugby before. The Huns deal is a property play at best.

Professional rugby in the USA needs less revolution and more evolution

Whilst the Force and coach have been their own worst enemy with their pedantic style, the ref today will probably put the nail in the coffin as far as supporters of not just the Force are concerned, but any rugby fan. I’m watching now and this ref has given several penalties that seem suspect. Of course the miserable commentators have not shown many replays or even made much analysis on this, and penalties have certainly been one of the main factors that has prevented Force from getting going. Terrible. Thank goodness I didn’t have to pay to watch this rubbish.

Wooden spoon battle doesn't faze Force

Just like a few here said. Fekitoa is amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a back strip and turn over so many balls. And all at seemingly important times. Brilliant. Shame hes playing for Landers. Tahs should never have lost that game, but as you say, they went to sleep and allowed Landers to play touch rugby.
