I agree we should stay with an Australian domestic competition, but the attempt to create artificial Sydney suburban teams never works. Why not just have the NRC teams?
Being one of many that donned the Sydney jersey as a junior, it actually means something. Would love to see Michael Hooper rocking the Blue and Gold. Have the games shared between Brookie and Bankwest (and maybe Leichardt?)
Plus straight away you have that grudge match between City vs Country in both NSW and QLD and a push into towns like Newcastle and Townsville.
Turning Super Rugby AU to gold
No I’m saying the lack of a big crowd cheering may not adequately convey the intensity of the game. The action on the field has been great, but the reason why the NRL added their canned crowd noise was for exactly this reason (not suggesting Super Rugby AU add it at this point). It’s not a criticism as there is no way around it at the moment.
The weekend that made Super Rugby AU
Agree and glad to see some positive chat. Also don’t discard the impact of having almost no crowd in the stadiums (due to Covid). NZ are lucky enough to have packed stadiums thanks to their enviable situation. That adds to the apparent intensity of the games that is hard to match in an empty ANZ stadium.

Look colours aren’t my forte, dark blue?
Yes you are correct (though I didn’t know about him signing with Sydney). Deegan and the Force are playing great rugby too.
Five reasons to get excited about the NRC
Yes good points. I guess the hope is that as all the teams are directly managed by the Super Rugby franchises, they will manage it closely.
But yes, that is perhaps relying on an optimistic outlook.
Five reasons to get excited about the NRC
Absolutely, it all depends which Wallabies team turns up on the day really. Perth Wallabies or Auckland Wallabies.
Why we should be excited about the Rugby World Cup... in 2023
I take your point and I definitely don’t think that everything should be moved north, but at the very least moving the NRC homebase from Concord to where the crowds are proven to come makes sense.
Also, don’t forget a huge chunk of the average Waratah’s crowd are Northerners forced to wait patiently in the Sydney Tunnel traffic jam every week. At least moving more than one game that way makes sense.
The winnable battle for a rugby heartland
don’t forget it’s privately owned now… it may not be up to the club.
The winnable battle for a rugby heartland
Sure, but I remember many years where Wallabies tickets were almost impossible to get in Sydney. No we don’t even sell out the Bledisloe.
The winnable battle for a rugby heartland
yes but Manly fans don’t travel, so I think moving any “home” games will slowly kills the franchise.
The winnable battle for a rugby heartland
Yep Manly Oval would be out but Pittwater Rugby Park or Brookvale Oval could be used.

FTA is the obvious preference. Twiggy has discussed investing in Australian Rugby long term, if he believes in the product then this is where we need him. Supplement the sport as it goes FTA for a few years and the returns will come.
