Contributors to this site are obsessed with “crowds” and “empty” stadiums. The 60,000 crowds of yesteryear often referred to occurred when mobs came to party. Don’t tell me otherwise. I saw it in the pubs from early on pre match kick off. In pubs at both Parra and Lidcombe. Packed to the eyeballs with “supporters”, beer coming out their ears, thumping the tables while they chanted along. The pubs were awash with grog and they must have turned over record profits. At the subsequent games I saw members among the RBB trashing the seats and chucking them on the park. There was plenty of atmosphere all right and a few beers helped you get into it i must admit. I think those at the games back then watched the carry on in a section of the stands as much as they did the game. But those days are gone and its no use bemoaning that. I used to take four mates along to those games and they loved the carry on but only one comes with me now. It occurred to me that if every member got a member signed up then attendances might nearly double and so on.
The A-League Men needs a lot more games like the Sydney Derby
Pity we cant put together a state of origin tournament or some sort of state v’s state championship
Jewel in the crown: Just how much are Socceroos and Matildas worth to the broadcasters?
They jump on the bandwagon by posing for photographs with the Matildas. What’s more they are hardly likely to throw money while there are empty stadiums. Particularly after the pressure to build a 30000 seat capacity expansion at Parramatta when they could have halved the old stadium and still had empty seats.
The Roar's A-League Men tips and predictions: Round 5
As for the Iran Iraq match I was working on the Hume highway on the day clearing African Olives. There was a constant stream of cars travelling south flying flags of Iran and Iraq – It may well have been a cracker of a game but the crowd was mostly non ACT residents.
Save the club chants for A-League games if you're supporting the Socceroos
Perfectly legitimate comment when you consider the state of the world today. There is no attempt by the author to combine the crisis in Palestine with Football for any other reason than to point out the potential dangers due to the terrible crisis elsewhere. More likely it seems you are making something of it yourself mate.
'It's horrific': Socceroos braced for emotional WCQ - is it 'bonkers' that we have to play Palestine right now?
Thursday night, weak opposition and barely any promotion – thats par for the course
Roos Control: Maclaren speeds to second half hat-trick as Socceroos start World Cup campaign in style
Just wait till someone in the stands does something stupid and it will be headlines
The Socceroos are set for their easiest World Cup qualification ever - but will that hurt Australian football?

Achtung, baby! Adelaide kid off to Germany in Australia's most expensive football transfer
I watch most of the games on TV. It is seriously depressing from the start to see the empty stadiums. I can screen out the vacant rows sometimes and focus on the action when its a good game such as the recent Mariners /Roar match. To add to the malaise there is the inane commentary to put up with. Commentators chatting to each other instead of calling the game. Then the irritating rattle rattle of those stupid side drums as if someone is being marched to the gallows, somewhat fitting perhaps. And the mournful wailing through a loud hailer in the emptiness by some well meaning cheer leader. The exception is the Wanderers who at least have a decent chorus and use a much more sound effective Bass Drum. Yes this is a whinge but i use the remote which helps. However you cant possibly expect the masses to tune in and suffer this. I dont know how to do it but fill the stadiums and create the atmosphere. Create the atmosphere and you get the ratings, subsequent media coverage and a decent TV deal.
There is only ever one 'must-see' fixture in the A-League Men each week
Thats better Waz – fits the question – sorry for being pedantic – it was really a metaphorical question really – it would, in practice, be very difficult for the ref to change his mind after first ruling a foul then changing it to simulation. I was really saying Fornaroli got away with one imo – cheers
Don't mention the VAR: Vuck waste chance against shotless Nix, but nobody happy as ref and tech dominate
Re your first point – what i said waz,Waz, “”Looked like a dive to me”. And so it did. My statement remains.
Don't mention the VAR: Vuck waste chance against shotless Nix, but nobody happy as ref and tech dominate
If there was no foul on Fornaroli going down in the box why wasnt he booked for simulation then? Looked like a dive to me
Don't mention the VAR: Vuck waste chance against shotless Nix, but nobody happy as ref and tech dominate
Well early as it is diving and rolling on the turf is definitely back in favour – pathetic blight on our sport
Irankunda sent off as Original Rivalry kicks off big time with two reds, two goals and a heap of controversy
Only player to be nominated in all 5 times of the women’s Ballon D’or since its inception whats more.
The dark days of a divided NSL and dinosaur opinions are finally dead: Australian football is entering an unprecedented period of success
” It completely baffles me how someone could not have a interest in football when Irankunda, Bernado, Scicluna, Yull, Thurgate, and the list goes on ” – mate its an acquired taste, he probably hasnt had a taste yet thats all.

They did at one time with regard the A League express that they were disappointed there was no evidence of any flow on from A League viewers to any of Channel 10’s other programmes. This might happen in time i guess if they stick with Football but it’s surely largely up to what they present. The Channel 10 News is well presented imo
If the Matildas can draw sell-out crowds, why can't the A-League Men?
Channel 10 would have to be pleased with the Matildas vs Philippines – 797000 overall, 523000 Metro –
If the Matildas can draw sell-out crowds, why can't the A-League Men?
Speaking of The Matildas if you can get to this exhibition its well worth a look >https://www.walkleys.com/spotlight-on-2023-nikon-prize-winners-and-walkley-award-photography-finalists/<. Jubilation, a great image of seven of the squad won First prize in the Beauty in Sport prize for 2023. There are several other images that were finalists including several more of the Tillies and, unfortunately, a graphic image of the Bucket Man incident. The winning image of the Matildas is also copied on an entire wall in the exhibition – top floor NSW state Library where the ex is currently on show but it may be in other states as well – not sure. Great publicity.
If the Matildas can draw sell-out crowds, why can't the A-League Men?
Well its the Matildas thats why. Crowds are not flocking to the W League either are they. But I expect they will grow after those Teeny Boppers loving our matildas get a little older. And please stop writing and posting about crowds!
If the Matildas can draw sell-out crowds, why can't the A-League Men?
Cheer up Waz – better times coming. You might have to live a long time to see it happen but our sport will prevail. And there is always our Mighty Matildas doing the job in fine style. Our Nation wouldnt dare let “the people in charge” mess them up!
Redmayne pain as Socceroo's howler consigns Sydney FC to horror start in Brisbane domination

'I’ll be supporting whoever plays against Australia': Are people engaging with the Women’s World Cup, or just along for the ride?
I think it not hard to suggest Spurs were winning against weaker teams in the run up to their 3 on the trot losses. 3 goals ruled offside in a match is a coaches nightmare, by the same player at that. Spurs did well really when you consider they had nine players out for the Villa match, seven with injuries and Bissouma and Romero out suspended.
