Interesting. I think Clarko’s record speaks for itself so wouldn’t write him off just yet. But agree that the Hawks appear good things to regenerate quickly and challenge again soon, as good clubs tend to do.

Best to worst: Ranking all 18 AFL coaches from the season so far

Mitchell severely underrated here. I had Hawks for the spoon pre-season as I didn’t see much to be excited about with their list. Has proved me wrong and should see the Hawks back being competitive for finals / flags again in the near future (annoyingly).

Not just here. All AFL media talking up the Suns, how it’s been such a positive year, how they’re primed for finals next year. Most of them were pretending they were still a finals chance up until last week. Delusional. They’ll lose multiple players again this offseason and finish 11th – 14th, like they do every year. Rinse and repeat. By the way, I don’t pin this on Dew. The club is just shot and I’m not sure it can be fixed.

This was very funny until I realised you were serious hahaha

Swans legend retires: Hamstring woes force Kennedy to bring down curtain on career

This is just one example. He’s non-stop with it. His suggestion that clubs were being ‘vindictive’ by daring to bid on his Academy and father son players was a highlight. Probably my favourite Bevo whinge.

AFL News: Beveridge blasts tackle rule change, CEO says players to blame, Hardwick fumes at umpires

Can’t wait for Bevo to be gone so I don’t have to hear his incessant, biased whinging. Most unbearable bloke in the game bar none.

Melbourne, Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorn play all of their home games at their home ground. They also play numerous away games at their home ground. Yes, it’s neutral when they play a fellow tenant, but it works both ways. Having to play a home game at your opponents home ground, which is not your own, is completely different.

Cool the flag talk, the Saints aren't even guaranteed finalists just yet

This criticism of the Cats just baffles me. They have the least home ground advantage over the course of the season of any team and it’s not close. They literally play multiple “home” games at other teams’ home grounds instead of their own. Having a uniquely shaped ground is not an unfair advantage. Forcing another team to play their home game at your home ground is. (Not a Cats supporter).

I get that. I agree with it. But it’s done now, so that’s not a valid argument. Having committed to expansion, the only way for the new teams to be competitive is by acquiring existing players.

Six Points: Even stars need to be called out for dog acts, and Port Adelaide's path forward is clear

How else would the expansion sides fill their lists? Just sharing the next best 150 players not currently on a list amongst the four new clubs? They’d get annihilated. They already do even with the ability to sign existing players. There’s just no other choice.

Six Points: Even stars need to be called out for dog acts, and Port Adelaide's path forward is clear

Care to expand on why you thought this was an even remotely relevant thing to bring up?

Six Points: Even stars need to be called out for dog acts, and Port Adelaide's path forward is clear

Can’t have it both ways. If everyone stayed ‘loyal’ to avoid being ‘turncoats’ then the new teams would be even more uncompetitive than they already are. The decision has been made to expand to 18 teams and won’t be reversed (questionable decision though that may be) – the best way forward now is for as much player movement as possible to try to avoid another season of thrashings every week between the haves and the have-nots.

Hard to believe Poulter and Henry aren’t getting picked.

AFL Thursday Thought Bubble: Untaggable, unstoppable Neale the difference, but Pies on the right track

Not sure that will happen, either…

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 3

Must say, it’s a pleasure to have regular, in depth articles such as these returning this year. The last couple of years have felt a little light on for content AFL-wise. Thanks Tim.

Re. the game, Blues looked great. Tipped them for top four pre-season and feeling a healthy dose of overconfidence in myself right now, so watch for it all to come crashing down soon. But honestly, hard to see it given how amazing the midfield now looks and the presence of the two big men up forward.

AFL Thursday Thought Bubble: Breathtaking Blues good enough, but can they be for long enough?

I see you’ve take into account opposition, my point is more about the actual game itself i.e. yes Brisbane won, and beat a ‘good’ team, but the game itself was deplorable and filled with skill errors. Based on that, I think they’re too high (same with Port). Whereas GWS lost, but actually looked really good and played a high quality contest against a good team. Small distinction but those two games really stood out as being worlds apart in quality.

Round 1 AFL power rankings: So it begins

Agree with other posters that the quality of the respective games should come into play. Freo definitely below GWS, maybe Collingwood and Richmond too. Push Hawthorn down until they beat anyone useful. Port also below GWS, that game was dreadful to watch. Dees and maybe Swans above Lions.

Round 1 AFL power rankings: So it begins

1. Brisbane
2. Western Bulldogs
3. Melbourne
4. Carlton
5. GWS
6. Geelong
7. Port Adelaide
8. Richmond
9. Sydney
10. Essendon
11. Fremantle
12. St Kilda
13. Collingwood
14. Gold Coast
15. North Melbourne
16. Adelaide
17. West Coast
18. Hawthorn

AFL 2022 Radar: Will we get another first time flag winner, or are Melbourne too good to fail?

The things I would do to have Zak Butters at the Swans, honestly…

Separately, you might want to sell Sam Reid but you’d need a buyer. At this rate I reckon you’d struggle to find one.

2022 AFL pre-season stock market

Reckon you’re bang on re. Blues positives, maybe with the exception of McDonald who is a fair downgrade on Jones. Midfield depth hugely improved. Should make finals.

AFL Oracle: Which team stuck in footy’s ‘no man’s land’ can crack the top eight in 2022?

I get the Horne-Francis was exciting but calling him North’s best player is a huge reach. He had 16 touches at 43% efficiency. Impact player at the moment who I’m sure will develop into a consistent Fyfe type threat at some stage, but not yet. Daicos, on the other hand, really does look like a star already.

AFL pre-season: Top picks already their teams' biggest stars, fading great hints at 2022 renaissance

Was rapt to see Rowbottom’s game yesterday. Has a few knockers amongst Swans fans who wonder what he brings. Think Sunday’s game showed it – desperate attack on the footy and sharp, clean hands.

AFL pre-season: Top picks already their teams' biggest stars, fading great hints at 2022 renaissance

Haha to be fair, when I called you out on it last year you pointed to your article on Melbourne as a positive one, so can’t fault your decision to be economical in dealing out praise when you pick em like that.

AFL 2022 Radar: 'Can Sydney win the flag? Maybe'

Bloody oath I am! Looks a great team and as you say, that doesn’t even include potential future draftees (will leave out trade and FA as that’s a two way street).

AFL 2022 Radar: 'Can Sydney win the flag? Maybe'

Team looks good, I favour an extra tall defender so would have paddy m instead of rowbottom, who probably gets a game at the expense of whichever midfielder is injured at the time (ie Mills currently).

Not expecting linear improvement so would not be surprised to see us drop to bottom of the eight / just outside. Still plenty to be excited about in the next few years as a swans fan.
