Yes Alan Lewis Hong Kong. My bad, it just seems wrong to do it, he’s going to have to start doing it regularly. Bad precedent.
The IRB should cut Paddy O'Brien
I am not deflming Paddy, I thought he was the best referee in the world during his time. What I am saying is had it been Ireland that was on the wrong end of Dickinson’s scrum calls, Ireland might not have received an apology. I am not questioning his integrity at all, I think he’s got the right idea at heart but is it the right idea rugby referees need? I think there is a possibility The fact that he took a plane from Ireland too address the problem is seriously concerning. Did we receive an apology for Alan Lewis’s mistakes in Tokyo? No. Dickinson made mistakes, Lewis made mistakes. What I am saying is that did a nationality play a part in this instance?
The IRB should cut Paddy O'Brien
Stuart in the B & I Lions match earlier in the year showed he was one of the best With easily taking the crown over anyone selected for those tests. He’s improved darasctically and he did a lot better then Kaplan.
Australia should get apologies from O’Brien too, and Wycliff Palu a Christmas card and a candy cane from O’Brien.
The IRB should cut Paddy O'Brien
Ah yes, it certainly would be, Jason Lees has potential a quality schools referee, but I think Super 14 is out of his depth!
Anyone have any idea about Leckie’s replacement? Any idea when the new panels are being named?
ELVs advocate Matt Goddard calls it quits
Andrew Lees not Jason Lees. I do hope Mitchelmore is ahead of Lees though I believe he has a bit more of an ‘edge’ in my opinion though. Despite his fear to go yellow.
Gardnier is probably the next best thing in refereeing to be honest. Give him 5 years and he’ll be refereeing Super 14 at least. He’s only about 23 or so now I think.
ELVs advocate Matt Goddard calls it quits
They dropped Leckie? I really didn’t see that coming, he was on the IRB development panel and Merit panel. I met the bloke once seemed like a genuniely nice bloke. How did you hear about Leckie being dropped?
So I take it Mitchelmore will probably be promoted to ‘A’ panel or Lees. Not sure, fingers crossed for Mitchelmore.

Its a good idea actually, I really do like it. I think it should simply be a one off match, no series one game. Rotation each year. Could really bring QLD’s spark back to the game.
Introduce State of Origin into rugby calender
Pippinu, the thing about this is .The Waratahs crowd is indeed impressive. But there is only one team, unlike league they have Parra, Bulldgos, Tigers etc; to split the share. It’s pretty bad considering that the those 3 teams double the crowd that the Waratahs get.
We need ARC so here's how it can be done
Hey guys,
What I am saying is that they should ensure that they don’t make the same mistake. If the Wallabies do indeed have sucess against the AB’s in Tokyo and on the Grand Slam I think it would give people more confidence and would also attract sponsors dollars if they were to go.
Of course the ARU are thinking about an adaption with the ANZC, but financially I don’t know how much money it would attract. Greater costs on flights. It could be a huge failure or it could obviously be a huge sucess. I’m sure Rebel Sport would love to play a part as it is a International name between Aus and NZ. It could obviously grow and become a premier competition. As NZ are rugby mad, and their current competition doesn’t really provide the interstate rivalry like inter-country would hold.
But however if this was done you couldn’t exactly have a 16 week competition, (8 teams from each country, anything smaller than this would mean it would be like the S14 without Wallabies and not give enough players to develop) would be too excessive as the Super 15 will become a 22 week competition. That would mean it would be a 16-19 week competition. Maybe it’s a little too much.
One things for sure 22 isn’t enough especially for the fringe players with AUS A being abolished, and the Premier Grade not going into October.
Elbusto- it doesn’t sound to attractive but sacrifices need to be made. Obviously you wouldn’t be able to have all matches and would have to stay the night. Maybe sponsorship details between hotels can be made. It was just such a significant cost. However for games between NSW and QLD, even Melbourne on occasions- Come in that day, and maybe come out the next as generally no flights occur after 8pm which will generally be the time games finish. Probably later too.
We need ARC so here's how it can be done
Also Ed- It’s part of their contracts a lot of the time that they play for club if they are not playing any rugby. This way obviously you wouldn’t probably even need to pay a lot of the fringe players, maybe a bonus if they do well in the competition. But for the shadow players, they will need some sort of reimbursement, even though it contradicts what I said kind of. Give them a little, because for fringe players a lot of them are kept out because of the lack of money, and they have to stick with their full time job.
We need ARC so here's how it can be done
The right way in my mind, is to use teams like last time. Central Cost, Sydney can have Western Sydney, Eastern Sydney and Central Coast. A mebourne team, and a Perth Team.
Using clubs won’t work, it won’t draw a big fan base. However if you do this it will. Say Brisbane North has Brothers, Ashgrove, Norths and a couple of other teams. While Brisbane South has the Gold Coast, Souths, Sunnybank etc;
I’m not to familiar with how the Sydney teams would be structured if done my way.
We need ARC so here's how it can be done
I can see Paul Alo-Emile certainly making it somewhere. Nic Stirkinanzer and Matt Lucas certainly give me a sigh of relief that the halfbacks in the next few years are promising. Chris Feautai is certainly a must to watch out for only 15. And then there’s Curtis Browning in the Aus A side who is only in grade 10 who you will certainly see as a permanent fixture next year.
The locks were pretty good, maybe just maybe they will go somewhere. But Liam Gill, buff him up a bit and I can see this guy being better than Pocock, an exciting prospect. Give him a few years under Ewen McKenzie and the reds will be shining again with Eddie Quirk and Liam Gill. Just you fellas wait
Kiwi schoolboys put boot into Aussies
Yes I do agree about Stu Dickinson. He was also ‘dogged’ in the world cup for Alan Lewis and many other more junior referees to him, and he only got the pool games. He was also shown neglected in the Tri Nations too. However I cannot confirm this purely speculation but I think it is because he has a young family and he wants to be with them. That may have something to do with it. Bryce Lawrence- does apply the running style of rugby which I do enjoy but he is however just not a quality referee and is far too inconsistent on his rulings and how he applies them.
J Kaplan is a shocker not just because of the Wallabies losing rate under him but the fact that he constantly goes on, inconsistent as ever and the players don’t know what to expect from him. Well the Australian players don’t at least, the NZ players do getting away with killing the ball 3 metres out from the line and a try on the cards. And Kaplan doesn’t even bin. I know for sure that I would rather 5 points with an opportunity for an extra 2 points. While in other games he bins just like that. I really don’t get how after so many chances Kaplan still gets 2 big games, with 4 top tier teams. I don’t know whether it’s loyalty or Paddy O’Brien and his team are just blind to the injustice that not just Australia gets but top quality Super 14 teams.
I think its about time the press gets on the back of Paddy O’Brien then the IRB referees, they are probably doing their best, but they should be appointed to lower matches, and many (Bryce Lawrence for instance) shouldn’t have even got to Super 14 level. I know many of the Australian referees on the ‘B’ panel that would do a better job then these referees. I am calling immediately for a new IRB referees mananger that isn’t Andre Watson either. We need someone fresh from the referee ranks who has actually refereed with the referees or a referee coach. Andrew Cole was a good referee now the Australian rugby referees manager he’s had a pretty good year Australia wise certainly with developing new referees and bringing Steve Walsh to Australia. Stay away from Lyndon Bray, couldn’t referee can’t manage.
Top 3 referees in the World
1. Allain Rolland
2. Stu Dickinson
3. Wayne Barnes
Needs to be big changes in rugby refereeing
McCaw’s status would keep him in most teams. But George Smith has certainly dominated proceedings this year for the number 7 role. Keeping Australia from humiliation in most games, including the last where when he came off the score soon became an absoloute embarrassment.
Would your World XV be Aussie-free?
The article was actually a lot longer, it was trimmed down significantly by The Roar.
