You’re definitely right about Ono, he is close to 35ish now isn’t he? Again probably bang on about Hersi, hence his current injury at Glory. Castilian looks good for all his promise probably just needs to deliver more I think.
I personally think Mooy kept the Wanderers ticking over and that’s the big loss, as you say Poljak and La Rocca have not filled his shoes and frankly aren’t as they are both ball winning holding mid’s as opposed to more of a playmaker like Mooy.
Takahagi looks better deeper as he fulfils the hole that Mooy left but then who do you play as the number 10?
The schedule is definitely taking it’s toll though and that has to be one of the biggest factors here.

Yeah spot on Harry. Losing Alonso at Liverpool had an even bigger affect at Liverpool than it’s having at Real. Andrea Pirlo is the only other player that’s anything close to Alonso in my opinion. There is quite literally no other player out there like this pair that can completely and utterly control a match.

It is always an interesting debate this one about English clubs in the Europa league. I still think they don’t take it too seriously, although Everton seemed to have disproved this theory with their performance against Wolfsburg.

Sorry Evan, just a couple of mistakes that I picked up in your article mate:
France are actually given three UCL spots, the third team has to qualify much the same as the forth placed team in the EPL.
Before Atleti won the La Liga last year Valencia did it a whole decade before under the guidance of Rafa Benitez, Atleti previously won La Liga in ’96 I believe with Simeone as a player.
Also when Chelsea won the Europa League in 2013 they had finished third in their Champions League pool due to Roberto Di Matteo’s poor run as head manager rather than caretaker. Rafa Benitez came in, rotated the squad and won it because he DID take Europa League seriously which is the point you are making and it’s very true.
Still looks as if Spurs rate this competition as highly as the League Cup, which they shouldn’t because as you rightly point out a spot in the UCL is up for grabs which they will find more difficult cracking the top 4 in the EPL this season. Good article though mate!

Top article Daniel! You are very right there, should be a cracking season of Serie A. I’m tipping Roma to get the title off Juventus, as Allegri won’t cut it as Juve manager despite the world class squad he’s got there. He struggled throughout his time at Milan and I think it will be the same at Juventus.
I don’t think Milan will bounce back, even with Pipo in charge. The squad is still full of ego’s and no apparent direction in terms of football philosophy. Inter on the other hand should be qualify for Europe along with Napoli. I’m hoping Fiorentina make it into the top three, because they play some of the best football in the league and Brilliante is there as well haha!
Why Serie A is worth watching again
Great article Melinda! As a Tigers fan, this upheaval is very disappointing considering how well the team on the pitch has done. Let’s be frank here, the Tigers were one of the favourites to take the wooden spoon in the off season and now we are challenging for the finals. That’s an achievement in itself. Mick Potter really has done a wonderful job to get this squad full of promising talent and seasoned veterans to surprise the competition.
However, there is something serious wrong going on behind the scenes. To have all this controversy about Potter’s future spilled out into the media is completely and utterly wrong. You cannot run a Rugby League club (or any other sporting organisation for that matter) with squabbles about leadership being leaked to the media. Whoever has done this has to go – and I have a feeling it’s one of those board members.
To address Farah’s comments to Tallis that Tallis told Triple M, it needs to be taken in context. The context is that Potter was just starting out in Tiger town, after Sheensy reign which was what close to 10 years at the club. Farah had played his whole career under arguably the second best coach in the NRL and was now under the guidance of a relative rookie in terms of Potter. What he said to Tallis was obviously confidential, but you wouldn’t expect Tallis to keep his mouth shut would you? It’s clear also that Farah has grown under Potter and there is, contrary to belief, a respect their. Farah is miles ahead of where he was under Sheens. Tallis had to come out and join the media bashing of the Tigers, why wouldn’t he? He’s a media ‘professional’ now.
That’s my two cents anyway.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion mate. Neill was a great captain for our country but it’s not as if he’s done much for the game domestically has he? Kewell came back and gave the A-League a go twice, Neill treated his stint at Sydney FC like a holiday.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, didn’t think I’d get this much! On a personal note, H is one of my heroes and favourite players of all time. He is the reason I started supporting Liverpool and every time he pulled on a Socceroos jersey you knew something special was going to happen.
Sheek, as you can be see by a couple of the comments there are a few people out there that have questioned him, probably more so English people. When I was there a couple of years ago quite a few people sniggered at me when I told them Kewell was my favourite player.

Yeah very true up in the north. As much as I hate Greg Bird, he is the kind of gritty, grubby player we need to put it to the Queensland pack. Ah wouldn’t that be great to see! That would ignite the series a little more. Hoping for a big one from Woodsy, he’s been excellent again this season.

To be fair Kaks Newcastle is one club town, hence their ‘short sighted views’. They will always hope their team will do better than they should. In terms of wanting Pardew out it is more a case of the fact that Pardew came in with the Ashley take over, therefore placing him in the ‘Cockney Army’. Any excuse was found to want him out.
Spot on though Kaks about the points he has won. It is prolonged their survival for longer but it is hard to know whether or not the Toon Army would thank him or not.
