FULL TIME: 94 Minutes. Sydney FC 2 – 1 Brisbane Roar. Sydney FC win it by taking their chances in the moments they had the superiority. Brisbane set up many chances but couldnt take them and were found wanting. The yellow card list shows a seriously scrappy affair and filled with errors in passing and tackling. But Sydney FC wanted it, and they fought hard for the goals they got with a smooth Del Piero slot home, and a solid Triantis strike. Sydney FC held the ball properly and stifled Brisbane’s flow. Sydney FC weren’t convincing and I dont believe they’ll make it far into the finals with this form and talent, but they are contenders for 5th or 6th spot into the finals after this win.
Brisbane need to go to the drawing board and it looks like next year will be their year if they can get a good run of momentum. They play Asian Champions League on Wednesday and they will be focusing on it to get a result.

93rd: Brisbane quick fire leads straight to the sideline. There’s no fluency here, and Sydney gets the possession. But a free kick is conceded, and Brisbane put everything into this push.

91st: Del Piero steals possession and runs clear, Hingert chases him down and gives him a slight shove to the back and Del Piero falls. It’s exactly the foul Del Piero wanted deep into injury time.

88th: Chianese is adjudged offside after a great setup by Del Piero. This is followed up the other end by Berisha who is caught offside after a Nichols set up. Replays show Chianese AND Berisha well offside. Berisha gets a yellow card for protesting and is really now happy about it. Tiago gets cramp and runs off the field for some attention.

87th: Brisbane’s midfield pass the ball effortlessly between themselves, but it looks like their forwards are standing doing nothing at all. No wonder their plays are ending up nowhere at the moment.

They’re playing frantically, as opposed to Franjically.

85th: Both teams are now playing more frantically. They can tell the clock is counting down. Brisbane in particular are rushing their plays. A ball is fed through to Berisha, But Janjetovic makes it first and boots the ball out twenty rows into the sidelines.

84th: The possession stabilises and the ball is passed back to the Sydney keeper, who is forced to kick the ball out by some enterprising jockeying by Berisha.

82nd: Del Piero free kick. He goes for goal, and it’s a powerful left curling ball which cannons off the crossbar of goal. It flies out for a Brisbane possession. The crowd roar at the sight.

80th: Broich takes a free kick, but it’s ill planned and he passes straight to a Sydney FC player. I look at it and think I can take better free kicks in real life at my local club games.

Sydney FC foul count is 15 to Brisbane’s 5. Farina getting these guys to be aggro.

79th: BErisha nutmegs and jinks in and out of players for nearly 30 seconds. He doesnt find an opening, but just as he finds an opportunity, Chianese tackles for a free kick. Gets a yellow card while he’s at it.

Watching Janjetovic being successful makes me wonder how Sydney FC could ever persist with IVan NEcevski. He was plodding for many seasons at Sydney FC and never could take the top spot despite five seasons of effort.

77th: Nichols gets tackled and the ball falls for a corner kick in Sydney’s penalty area. Janjetovic punches the ball out. Brisbane take the follow up ball and it is looped into no mans land for a goal kick.

The game in this half is much more livelier. Sydney are playing much more fluidly and Brisbane seem to have far less possession. BRisbane need to turn that around if they plan to win it now.

75th: DEl Piero slots a left wing ball to Grant, who crosses into dangerous area, but is defended and cleared by Brisbane. Ball goes for a goal kick.

74th: Backward tackle on Donachie which would count as a red card at the community level isn’t carded here.

71st: Antonis passes to Del Piero, who backheels back to Antonis, but the ball rolls wide and is intercepted.

Triantis is know as the “burglar’ because he steals the ball in midfield. And he looks the goods, as he does it again off Nichols.
Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar: A-League live scores, blog
69th: SYDNEY FC SCORES! Triantis drills the ball to the left bottom corner below Theo’s hand. HE finishes the ball after Del Piero crosses the ball, and Brisbane clears the ball out to Triantis.
Del Piero sets up the play from the left, very different to Antonis who went for goal instead.
That’s a huge important moment for Sydney. They’re now on track to win. And is Brisbane going to go for it now? Will they score? The game is on the line and Sydney have taken it despite inferior possession and some seriously poor shot selection.
