I think the AFL wanted to make the game less exhausting so they could play more games with shorter breaks if necessary. Some coaches have exploited the change and now play more players behind the ball. The players end up running hard forward then hard back. Obviously some coaches thing they can sustain this evening effort for 16 minutes. This has stopped the scoring. The 16 minute quarters has been the only real change this season. Time to change it back before the season is totally ruined

The NRL is torching the Frankenstein AFL

You are right Lynch and jack but at the moment both are flying in the same pack

Dusty won't cure Tigers' woes: Hardwick

It looks like the opposition have found a tactic to stop the Tigers manic forward chaos game style.
Both Collingwood and Hawthorn flooded the back 50m arc and left no room for the tigers forwards. I was amazed at how many Hawthorn players were in the back 50 m and how the tigers kept trying and failing to pinpoint small forwards with no room to move or stationary talls who were swamped. The Hawks (just like the Pies) then slow kicked out of defence while their midfielder gut ran forward. Interestingly all the top distance tracker players were hawks. Very good Hawk victory. The tigers desperately need a tall “lead and mark” forward to freshen up their game style

Dusty won't cure Tigers' woes: Hardwick

I kind of agree with you Lachlan but I think Soldo is the better first ruck. Grundy has proven to be to good and to tall for Nankervis. Nank however is a capable big forward. If Nank lost some weight and played as a forward ruck your idea might work. It might also help Nank overcome his abductor problems

How to solve Richmond's ruck dilemma

That’s my point. If two clubs with merchandising worth hundreds of millions of dollars don’t care if their jumpers are similar, then why are these to minnows carrying on. Both clubs have history to support their claim to the jumper. Unfortunately both presidents also have a history of chasing headlines

Eddie McGuire is seething that Port Adelaide wants to wear the prison bars

Eddie thinks Collingwood is the Manchester United of the AFL lol. Have a look at the Manchester United’s jumper and the Liverpool jumper. Identical except for the logo. These two massive clubs don’t have an issue. Is this really just Eddie & Koshy chasing headlines

Eddie McGuire is seething that Port Adelaide wants to wear the prison bars

The small Victorian clubs get to play the big Victorian clubs multiple times during the home and away season and don’t get enough supporters to fill Marvel Stadium much less the MCG. Will calling a game “a marque game” change that?

Vic clubs must fold or merge to make room for interstate expansion

Thanks RichieTiger.

Vic clubs must fold or merge to make room for interstate expansion

We already have 10 teams in Victoria and at least 4 have been struggling for 20+ years. That’s the problem. So if you have a better solution please let us know. We all love our clubs and understand the pain of having a club fold. Rather than denying the reality offer a solution.

Vic clubs must fold or merge to make room for interstate expansion

What you say is true WASS but look a little deeper. Yes, most of the revenue is generated in Victoria but unfortunately it is not generated evenly across the Victorian clubs. Attendances at North home games in 2019 is half of Fremantles and one third of the big Vic clubs. If you look at the Roy Morgan 2019 supporter survey (not just members) there is a massive untapped potential in Perth. Bigger even than the west of Melbourne.
I don’t like the idea of the Bulldogs and North disappearing like Fitzroy did. However if somehow they could truly merge in an even and fair way and keep their members they would be a powerhouse, just as big and powerful as Collingwood.
However good luck and l do admire your loyalty.

They don’t show all 9 games now do they?

AFL list reductions are the reality facing the league

Actually it is about GCS and the Saints being competitive. Firstly no broadcaster is going to pay for 9 games if 3 of them are boring, especially if one of the sides continually getting thrashed is from Sydney or Queensland.Secondly unless GCS and the Saints supporters believe they can win the occasional premiership they will always be a money pit

AFL list reductions are the reality facing the league

Really good point.

AFL list reductions are the reality facing the league

How does reducing the number of players save money. If you have fewer players then they become more valuable and their manages will be pushing for more money. Smaller supply and the same demand equals more money per player. The real issue is the salary cap.

If the AFL wants to drop the salary cap then just say so. Then let the clubs work out how many players they want, within set limits (say 35 to 45). The mix of players will depending where a club is at with their development. Let they customise their strategy. What the AFL needs to do is to protect the clubs investment in development by extending the contracts of draftees to 6 years with fixed pay scales of say $100K first year to $600K for the sixth year. If the club does not want to move a player up the pay scale then the payer is a free agent and the player can bargain. After 6 years the player is a free agent. Simple

Why is the AFL micro managing this?

AFL list reductions are the reality facing the league

Bomber Thompson is the one you really missed. Like Chris Scott says “Richmond are not as good as the great Hawthorn or Geelong sides were” but fortunately for the Tigers Scott is nowhere near as good as Bomber

The ten players your team can least afford to lose: Geelong Cats

Yes at Geelong have some of the best tall and medium defenders and that works well at GMHBA stadium. What are their ranking at the MCG when you need defensive midfielders to help the defence

Your AFL club's ideal recruit

Every club could use another star but how about some more left field options. For example Kane Lambert to Geelong because the cats need some defensive runners to cover Ablett and Dangerfield. Maybe Jayden Short to Collingwood to give them someone to deliver long and accurately to their forwards. There must be lots of others that do some roll really well but are not stars

Your AFL club's ideal recruit

Unfortunately the reality of North’s financial position is that nearly half of its revenue comes from the afl funding. For the big clubs this is less than 20%.
The big clubs have so much more money to spend on the science of football and equally importantly to self promote
North is like a lower level premier league club destined to be a middle tier team with a small dedicated following
Is that what the North supporters prepared to accept

AFL won’t push North to Tassie

Maybe in 2019 the Paul Roos affect wore off

How it all went downhill for Melbourne, and why they won’t return for a while

Eddie the hypocrite isn’t saying it but Collingwood will be in the hunt for Cameron from GWS. That’s the real reason Collingwood don’t want Moore’s price to escalate in a bidding war

Trade war for Darcy Moore is exactly what the AFL needs

What is the gambling comment about with Collingwood?t

18 questions before the AFL kicks off in 2020

Can you do this based on age and experience

How AFL lists have changed ahead of season 2020

I would like to see this same analysis done based on each teams best 30 players. That would give a better idea of the likely teams that would line up each week

How AFL lists have changed ahead of season 2020

Two comments, Kennedys action was gutless He knew that Cameron could not protect himself. Cameron knew that If he reacts he would give away a free kick

Second there are rules on workplace bullying. The AFL is not above the law. What choice does the AFL have? They need to reflect community standards

Was that the most over-umpired final ever?

Geelong pick their teams to play on their narrow home ground. Why is anyone surprised when they get found out on the MCG. It’s been happening for 50 years. Instead of complaining about home finals they should make their home ground the same size as the MCG. West Coast did and we are likely to see the result this weekend

Straight-sets exits await Geelong and Brisbane
