Rugby tragic. Former player (double numbers) and ref. Popular in teams because I also play guitar.

At the end of the day I think both sides are on a hiding to nothing. It will be interesting to see who wants the filthy lucre most out of this. I think it will fail as Australia won’t be able to sell out a decent size venue to tempt both sides into engaging. Still its created a bit of interest from both sides on the Roar 😂

A cross-code All Blacks vs Kangaroos match could happen this year

My game has been going well and with a lot more fans than 10000 😁

I get your point about the quality of the Wallabies – I also disagree with the sentiment that NZ need to invent new games to play to keep playing. Frankly we are happy in beating the wallabies

Read the whole reply before you leap up and down with your faux outrage hypocrite

“the big guys in league have to be fit enough to be constantly moving”
But they don’t (constantly move I mean). Distances covered in both games are similar – https://www.sportingnews.com/au/other-sports/list/how-far-do-athletes-in-different-sports-run-cricket-football-afl-nrl-rugby-tennis-basketball/nzkxdwhj8qhn1kkyjf43su45x/7
So yes the ball is in play for longer in league, but clearly there are less players involved while the ball is in play.

The facts are that players in both codes cover the same distance in a game – https://www.sportingnews.com/au/other-sports/list/how-far-do-athletes-in-different-sports-run-cricket-football-afl-nrl-rugby-tennis-basketball/nzkxdwhj8qhn1kkyjf43su45x/7
The league boys will struggle with the complexity of Rugby while the Union boys will pick up on count to 5 and kick a lot easier. Yep – game over

Read the article properly. It says “we’ve had the option put to us of this hybrid game with the Kangaroos” NZ doesn’t need to invent new games.

I’ll go watch a live game of league – good luck with that

“the ball is not in play as much” True, however the distance covered in both is surprisingly similar – https://www.sportingnews.com/au/other-sports/list/how-far-do-athletes-in-different-sports-run-cricket-football-afl-nrl-rugby-tennis-basketball/nzkxdwhj8qhn1kkyjf43su45x/4
This would indicate that while the ball is in play longer most of the players aren’t moving much.
Might be a bit closer than you think

I guess I just prefer Toomua because I saw him play a bit when I was in Canberra.
“we should not even be having this conversation if the SR coaches had done a better job”
too true

What a hypocrite. You were the one who first mentioned Trump.
Another feeble response from you. You don’t bother debating the point – as soon as you look like you can’t hold up a debate you resort to petty name calling. Pathetic.

Jacko – yeah I saw that however it was from 2018. The following article – https://www.superrugby.co.nz/news/new-zealand-rugby-congratulates-super-clubs/ – talks about the 2019 numbers being down by 6%. Crowds so far this year are making up for it though.
By the way I’m pleased to report that the “not very neutral view from England” has grouped us together. At least he hasn’t got everything wrong 😂

Overly dramatic there (again) Swede – once again you are trying to put words in my mouth or you are making assumptions with nothing to back them up. Your anti NZ bias is plain for all to see – open your eyes and go have a look at your comments. Denying that is worse than anything Trump has tried!
There is no doubt that SR is on the downslide in terms of crowd numbers – probably started about the time that SANZAAR thought that bigger was better. However in terms of digital channel participation, NZ has seen massive increases. The challenge will be to convert that to people coming the gates.
I note that the Champions Cup is proposing an increase in the number of teams to 24 teams. Looks like the NH hasn’t learnt anything from the issues that the SH has had.

Dave Rennie lays it all out ahead of Wallabies start date

So last year SR crowds in NZ fell by 6%, and in the UK Premiership crowds fell by 8.8% between 2018 and 2019 (over 78 games to date). Based on that SR in NZ is thriving particularly when you consider engagement with digital channels, but don’t let your anti NZ bias get in the way of a good rant 😛

Dave Rennie lays it all out ahead of Wallabies start date

Jacko – NZR reported that average SR crowds in 2019 were down six percent from 2018. However, more than three million people per week engaged with Investec Super Rugby across NZR’s digital channels during the regular 2019 season, a 94 percent increase on 2018 (and 60% of the population). The challenge is turning them back into “crowds at a venue” numbers. Games so far in SR Aotearoa have been good.

Jacko – the difference is that Cruden is competing with players that have experience at 10. Toomua isn’t it. I believe his experience will be invaluable to the younger players around him.

Davos – “His best days were 2013 to 2016” – debateable in my opinion. For a lot of that time he was with the Leicester Tigers in the UK, and didn’t play much international footy. He also had a serious injury early at the Tigers that limited game time. I saw him play a lot at 10 for the Brumbies in Canberra and liked him a lot. I think he still has a lot to offer.

You mean crazy ideas like the Rugby World Cup and not letting your own clubs telling you what to do? Those sort of crazy ideas?

The Wrap: Private equity can fix rugby, but only if rugby gets it right

can’t be bossed around by Unions in the Southern Hemisphere
WTF? How do you figure that happening?

The Wrap: Private equity can fix rugby, but only if rugby gets it right

Micko – I’m not pretending that I know less about this issue than I really do. It was a simple statement about a democratic process is all. And I don’t see a story here despite the petulant behaviour and snide comments from some others on this forum. However if that is their view then so be it. You can’t fix stupid.
I agree with you regarding how the PI’s have been left out in the cold by NZ and AUS, and its not just the close proximity countries that have treated them shabbily. The English and French are only too happy to raid their playing stocks as well. In terms of Rugby I doubt that the PI’s see themselves aligning with either NZ or AUS. There is nothing that either has done to foster a relationship.

And here I was thinking that this wasn’t personal. Well the feeling is mutual Swede. 😂

You didn’t bother to read the other 3 articles because you liked a comment in the first story that might support your lies? 😂
The second story: New Zealand Rugby confirm pay cut for top players
The third story: $25m gone: Brutal pay cuts revealed for NZ rugby stars
The fourth story: New Zealand’s top rugby players reach agreement on pay cuts

Try reading them properly and don’t waste my time with your BS

So you just took what I said and turned it 180 degrees to suit your own twisted narrative. But don’t let that change your bias – I’m still laughing whenever I see your name on something because there’s only one way that’s going. It’s a never-ending story.
yet to show that ‘I’ can see this from the club’s perspective Because you don’t take in what I have previously written, I will repeat it again (or just scroll up a bit): I understand that one of the key elements behind the proposals is to reduce the overlaps between club and international rugby. Also, the proposed structure would guarantee longer stretches of uninterrupted domestic games, which should benefit the club game, and most of us are unlikely to dispute the merit in this.
However I suspect the clubs do not see much in the way of benefits which is why they are pushing back so hard. Mind you clubs in the rest of the world will also be disadvantaged – they just don’t have the financial sway of the English and French. Fundamentally the benefits of any restructure will be an advantage to the national unions through more commercial opportunities, and potentially the players through a “lighter” workload.
