I think the same about Hooper. I definitely rate his current value and he is world class BUT a big part of that is down to his speed as a forward which he may lose with his next injury or over the next few years. I hope he doesn’t but chances are he will

What will the Wallabies look like in 2020 - and at the next World Cup?

I still rate Tom Wright’s skills to put him in the starting 15 somewhere but otherwise good match day squad

What will the Wallabies look like in 2020 - and at the next World Cup?

Hey Fionn,

Remember that article where Bernie and Chek were grooming Maddocks for 10? Whatever happened to that?? Earmarked as a future fly half for the WBs and is now a specialist or not so specialist winger!!

What will the Wallabies look like in 2020 - and at the next World Cup?

What nice analysis this is. The only issue is that this was soo obvious to all of the rugby community, yet it was allowed to play out?!

Thanks NB! And good luck to the Welsh this weekend!

Not waving but drowning: The Michael Cheika era comes to an end

Comparing the predictability of our running it from everywhere game cos it’s the Australian way as opposed to the incredible variation and unpredictability of Japan last night is staggering. England knew exactly what we were going to do with the ball before they even kicked it to us compared to the Brave Blossoms varied play of kick passes, inside runner plays, spun it wide, trucked it up the middle around the breakdown I would have been proud to lose in the manner they did last night vs a very good Boks side. If only our next coach was Jamie Joseph

Cheika's legacy: Consistent inconsistency and puzzling selection to the very end

He’ll be in Japan next year, like Foley. So, he is also gone.

Quade Cooper swipes at outgoing Wallabies coach on social media

15 kicks to 20 doesn’t tell the whole story though does it? I don’t think there was one adequate clearance from our 22 in the first half but there were a few horrible ones. But if you just look at the stats it comes across as kick vs kick as opposed to effective accurate kicking from England vs kicking I would have been ashamed of in reserve grade!

Six talking points from Wallabies versus England

Also that we have a solid lineout that paired with half decent exits from our 22 would have put some set piece pressure on the English! But no, keep the ball in hand and run and chip in field! 😂

Six talking points from Wallabies versus England

I’m not getting ahead of myself but the Fox commentary team who run the main propaganda for Oz Rugby are all making sounds like it is a done deal.

England eliminate Wallabies in World Cup quarter-final

It softens the blow doesn’t it

England eliminate Wallabies in World Cup quarter-final

Carn’ the Wallabies!
(Plenty of other comments I could make, but it’s game day and it’s up to boys now! I’m sure we’ll be proud of their efforts either way)

England vs Wallabies: Rugby World Cup quarter-final preview and prediction

Great article Harry. Really enjoyed and interesting about the lack of cards for your eight front rowers! That’s impressive discipline.

Toughest qf match to say who I’d like to win, as us Southern Hemisphere folk need to stick together, but I have kinda been swept up in the fairytale of the Brave Blossoms… I think at the end of the day the Boks will prevail in this match and that is a good thing but it would be nice to see the Brave Blossoms play like they did against Scotland and really take it to you guys!

You are not required to back the Blossoms. The Boks are brave, too

This video is classic, love the voice over – “unfortunately they will have an opponent”. Nicely done The Roar 😂

Michael Cheika's eyebrow-raising revelation about his dislike of opposition analysis

He was solid for the Rebels at 15 while DHP was injured this year but moved back to 13 when DHP returned. He should have been left there and DHP made to earn his jersey back via the bench- definitely a mis step by Wessels

Wallabies (lineout) rising: Rugby World Cup quarter-final hope against England

Yeah I saw that too, those comments were last week, I think?

Like I said, this weekend will decide if he has been foxing all this time or he really is the most incompetent WBs coach of all time. Good on the players though, good to see some loyalty to the coach shown and think they’re actually playing well albeit in a malfunctioning set up.

Wallabies (lineout) rising: Rugby World Cup quarter-final hope against England

I get the feeling that there is a bit of the clever mind games by Eddie here. Of all the weeks to need another Aussie league coach to come but the preparation for the WBs. It makes the English team feel like they will get an insight into how Aussie teams prepare etc and distracts Cheika who is already a bit obsessed with the NRL and it’s coaching staff ala The Roosters and WBs joint training sessions.
And if that is what Eddie is up to here, we’ll done as Cheika’s comments show he is wasting time analysing it.

England hits back at Cheika over Stuart: 'You'd be stupid not to try and learn from him'

As a non Queenslander I can tell you Rodda is highly regarded across the country, arguably Arnold receives more plaudits but he has been in red hot form this year. But as this article points out, Rodda runs the calls at lineout time and this is one of our most successful aspects of our play. The Reds set piece should be in good hands next season with him and Harry Hockings!

Wallabies (lineout) rising: Rugby World Cup quarter-final hope against England

One of 2 things is going to be confirmed this weekend. One, The Wallabies will reveal some incredible skills, tactics and cohesion that we haven’t seen in years and Cheika will be hailed as a genius. Or they’ll play the way they did against Wales with heart but hindered by odd selections, tactics and a lack of cohesion. And it will be confirmed something we are all pretty certain we already know about Cheika. And these last 4 years will have been a mirage.

Wallabies (lineout) rising: Rugby World Cup quarter-final hope against England

Going with Petaia’s running and passing game taking it deep in our own half along with Beale and Koribete is exactly what England and ironically Cheika want us to do. BUT as this article points out, our set piece strength is nullified by this tactic. Instead of playing territory with a big Hodge esq boot and having a platform set from a lineout which had retained 96 percent of its own throw thus far, we choose to take the low percentage play of Beale catching a ball in his own half and cutting the Englishmen to ribbons with X factor. All cos it’s in the name of doing it the “Australian way”.
Sounds like the stupid way to me, but don’t get me wrong – I pray I am the stupid one and Cheika has had a cunning plan this whole time and our boys win! Time will tell.

Wallabies (lineout) rising: Rugby World Cup quarter-final hope against England

I’m guessing the English will recognise our competency at lineout time and prefer to keep the ball in play and back that when they kick down field we will try and run it back from all over the park. This is where having Hodge at 15 would be a great help, big boot to deter the kick duels. Play a territorial game and try and put pressure on their set piece for once, that’s what they would do to us.

But Beale will be there and if the English have any sense the will rain box kicks and contestable kicks on him all night.

Wallabies (lineout) rising: Rugby World Cup quarter-final hope against England

Exactly. I love to watch the league but can’t stand this culture of the refs are the bad guys for enforcing the rules! The fact is that this is so ingrained in the commentary and a lot of my mates who watch the game that it is a losing battle. It appears fans would rather watch a game with some very grey rules arbitrarily enforced as long as it is a spectacle and someone gets smashed!

Why complain about the NRL's black and white decisions?

Yeah I got woken up in Hiroshima last time I was in Japan by an earthquake, the locals don’t even bother mentioning them which makes me think they’re pretty commonplace. All the same, probably a bit much combined with a typhoon.

Glad to hear you guys are all good over there, as it sounds like there is an epic rugby match on this evening! Carn you Brave Blossoms!

Week 3 World Cup reflections: How rugby's crazy Cup just got crazier

Thanks Geoff! Commonsense as always. Hope everyone is staying safe over there, bunkered down with a bottle of wine.

Week 3 World Cup reflections: How rugby's crazy Cup just got crazier

Thanks for the article James! Interesting to hear of another Aussie enjoying his rugby across ditch. A bit of success would be a good thing for him too after a stint at the Rebels 😂

Aussie abroad: Hugh Roach

Hard to take too many positives out of that. Even the use of the bench was strange. Did JOC play?
