After the release of the Wallabies end-of-year tour schedule, this writer and rugby lover thought it would be interesting to take a look at…
The Reds team has been named to take on the Cheetahs in what will be the Queensland side's first home game of the year.…
Yeah I’d subscribe to that. I’d happily see him play at 13 as well. I remember him playing a game there for the Reds during his first stint.
Provides a wider channel and second phase playmaker.
Ikitau is a beast in defence though, so that would be something the coaches would have to workaround
Wallabies pre-dawn: Why learning from the Townsville win is another important step
I think there’s space for both of them Pete.
I’d like to see JOC at fullback in that rotating first receiver role the kiwi’s do so well.
Wallabies pre-dawn: Why learning from the Townsville win is another important step
Agree. Im interested to see JOC at fullback, would provide us better options from second phase ball, would also keep the defence honest as JOC provides a damaging running ability, both with the ball in hand and on the end of a pass through a hole
JOC stays on ice as Wallabies team named for second Springbok showdown
Yeah I would agree that is why it has occured. However I think the gameplan we played with Tate snipping and drawing the line up in the first half and bring White on in the second half to turn them around and secure field position was a good game plan

A bit reactionary to pick drop McDermott for white.

Think you might of misunderstood my comment. I’m not bothered. But I do think its a bit of an indictment on the comp.
Wallabies DIY player ratings from the Springboks Test: The results
Brett interesting that you say Valentini had over 3m per carry, as I didnt think he looked that effective with ball in hand (which is his key skill). I thought the backrow (hooper excluded) looked well outgunned on the weekend.
But no complaints, we won!! so happy to roll on
A rapid Wallabies turnaround, and other non-Cooper observations
I’m happy to see us winning, so no complaints from me
But I will say it is a bit of an indictment on super rugby, if the winning team is being outnumbered by the last placed team in the wallabies starting lineup

I wonder what that crop of wallabies could of achieved had the dreaded Argy flight/texting incident not gone down and McKenzie had been given until the world cup
Rugby Championship turnaround: What a difference a Quade makes
I like Swinton, But i would be interested in seeing a backrow of Hooper, Wilson, Samu.
Rugby Championship turnaround: What a difference a Quade makes
Agree, think the backrow was certainly missing some zing this weekend. Would be good to see Wilson back in to provide better front foot ball.
I liked the balance of Mcdermott starting with white off the bench.

Great article Nicholas.
It was such a polished mature performance from quade. If im honest I think he has been playing this way since his time with the rebels, yet selection has eluded him until now.
With Banks struggling with form this series, I would be interested to see how JOC goes at fullback, allowing him and Cooper to interchange at playmaker and first receiver, which I think could certainly make us a lot better at second phase play

trying to compete and actually competing are two different things though
The Wrap: Rinse and repeat as sharply focused All Blacks sweep the Wallabies
Yep its mastering that attrition based rugby of keeping it tight and grinding the team down with scoreboard pressure
The Wrap: Rinse and repeat as sharply focused All Blacks sweep the Wallabies
The point was around the playing style that makes them competitive against the All Blacks. Because no one has been competitive over a long period against the All Blacks

I think his time in Japan may have changed his playing style. He has certainly been playing noticeably tighter and is in the contact zone more often. (could be down to Rennie as well)

😂 I said compete Ben.. not win 😂

Further, when will the ARU stop this love obsession with ‘running rugby’. The teams that consistently compete with the All Blacks are England, SA and Ireland. What do they all have in common? It certainly isnt pushing the offload at every single contact point, or inessentially choosing to run the ball out of our own half result it multiple turnovers and/or point scoring opportunities for the opposition.
We need to be better. But we certainly need to be better with a different style of rugby, the days of razzle dazzle have put us in this hole.

I’ve long been critical of Hooper, largely because I believe his selection as captain undermines the selectors ability to select the most balanced and appropriate forward pack for each match. Aka – Pooper (Pocock & Hooper)
But I will concede, yesterday, he had a great game and seemed to be one of the only wallabies looking to compete with the All Blacks.
Whilst I still think its time to look for a new captain (based on his low % success/win rate), hooper certainly earned my respect yesterday.

10 man rugby, Beat them upfront and in tight. Quick recycling of the pill and kicking to keep them in their half.
The Thursday rugby two-up: How to beat the All Blacks and what to expect from SA and Los Pumas
I think that would be the smart choice. Give Lolesio the chance, bring cooper on, if he performs, he starts the next game. Doesnt ruffle any feathers
Can Quade and Samu wind back the clock for the Wallabies?
He cant handle the big games? Might want to check his record champ… Probably start with his record against SA and NZ
Can Quade and Samu wind back the clock for the Wallabies?
agree Peter. Though I would admit there was probably 18 months in the cheika reign where Foley was the form player and deserved his selection.

Munster is box office.
He’s a throw back in his character and the way he plays footy
